Here are five things you can do to decrease the odds you will be targeted for workplace bullying.
Number one. When you walk into a room, when you walk anywhere, walk with purpose. Don't walk too
fast. Don't walk too slowly. Make sure to look around. Don't look down at the floor. Keep your
shoulders back and your chest up. Remember that when people are deciding who they're going to rob
or who they're going to assault, the first thing they do is choose their victim by the way they
look, the way that they walk, and the way they interact with the world. So be alert, walk with
purpose. And number two. When you sit down, take up space. Use territorial markers. For example,
if you have a bottle of water, put it on the table. If you have things, don't put them under
your chair. Spread out and take up space. That is what people do who believe that they belong
wherever they are. Number three. If somebody's trying to interrupt you, stop saying I'm sorry,
excuse me, thank you. There's a very simple way to stop that and one of the things you have to
stop doing is to say excuse me or pardon me, which are the first words out of most people's
mouth. Most people are easily interrupted. Don't be somebody who's easily interrupted. And when you
take the floor back, don't say thank you. I have a video on that in my channel. I'll put a link in
the description below if you need help with that. And if you or somebody you know is frequently
dealing with toxic or bullying behavior either at work or at home, please stop by my website
and download your free copy of Energy Vampire Slaying 101. It's right in the homepage of
that will help. Number four. Look people straight in the eye and turn to face them when you answer
them. Remember that bullies, before they bully you, they test the waters. They throw out the
bait to see if you will take it. So one of the things you can do to show somebody I'm not afraid
and I'm going to stand up to you is when they talk to you, turn to face them and look them
straight in the eye, not eyes too wide. You don't want to have the crazy eyes, but your whole body
should face them and you want to look them right in the eye as you say, what was that? Or what do
you have to say? And number five, if they are saying things that are of a bullying nature,
ask them to repeat it. Tell people, could you repeat that? Don't say, I'm sorry, I didn't hear
you. Don't say that. Say, would you repeat that again, please? Could you repeat that? And if they
can, and if it truly is an insulting or a passive aggressive thing that they are saying to bully
you, use a clarifying question. Get them to be upfront with their communication because they
won't like that. Say things such as, you know, Mark, when you say XYZ, it sounds to me like you're
saying ABC. Isn't that what you're saying? And if you are, you can just come right out and say that
to me. I can take it. You can give it to me straight. I can take it. When you are present,
when you take up space, when you show people, I belong here. I'm not afraid to talk to you.
I can take anything that you have to dish out. You will be less likely to be targeted as a bully.
Number one, because you won't be easily bullied. And number two, because that takes all the fun
out of it. So for more things like this, remember to subscribe to my channel or join me in one of
