How acupuncture could restore health & provide balance to your life

Healing Hands: Exploring Acupuncture

Much like the new year, acupuncture has its roots in ancient traditions and it's one of the oldest
Chinese medical practices. Traditional Chinese medicine views acupuncture as a way to rebalance
one's life force. Here with more is Gudrun Snyder, doctor of East Asian medicine and founder of Moon
Rabbit Acupuncture. Thank you so much for being here. Oh thank you ladies, I'm super excited.
Tanya and I have both experienced acupuncture so we were talking about how different her experience
was versus mine and it's relaxing. It is really counterintuitive that we're putting needles in
you and that actually makes you relax but people report that it helps them sleep better,
they go into a meditative state and it's one of the most relaxing experiences of their day.
And so the reason we had different experiences is she actually had it in China whereas I did
it here in the States and you were explaining to us that it's actually practiced different in China
than it is here in the United States. That's absolutely true. So we are trained in traditional
Chinese style acupuncture in our training in school, however in the U.S. the way we use needles
and the size of the needles actually is even often smaller so some people don't even feel it
versus if you've got acupuncture in China, they want you to feel it. That's the way they feel
that you're healing. Okay so you're going to be doing the facial rejuvenation so sticking needles
in someone's face. That's right. It's kind of similar to microneedling which is really popular.
This is the ancient version of it to help boost elastin and collagen, make you feel your most
useful rested self. All right so how does this work? So for the rejuvenation acupuncture it's
mostly in the face but typically we also would do an intake in the beginning. We talk about your
digestive health, we talk about anything else that you want to work on and in a normal acupuncture
session we do full body acupuncture as well but for today for demonstration purposes we'll just
do the face. We'll do some points on the head. This is a lifting point. Oh you seem to tap that
very lightly. Very lightly and exactly like you really don't feel it very much at all unless you're
extremely needle sensitive but you're finding the right acupuncturist is also like finding
the right doctor for you. You want to find someone who has the right style okay and we're very gentle
at moon rabbit acupuncture. So explain to people who might not be familiar with it the point of
acupuncture. Sure so acupuncture is used for the past 3,000 years to help rebalance your energy.
That can be whether it's you have pain in your body which can be stuck energy, it can be if you
have headaches, things like that. It can be also if you're just looking for a way to feel like your
best self to be your most well self. From a biomedical western perspective acupuncture helps
to boost serotonin and dopamine which are happy hormones, reduce things like cortisol which is
your stress hormones. So it's going to make you feel good. Well we know it doesn't hurt because
he's not moving. He is alive. We didn't talk to him. We talked to him. He just smiled. We know he is alive so you're not putting it into a dummy.
But you know a lot of people have the question of how do you know it's working?
Such a good question. So for the first time acupuncture people I always say give us at least
two experiences because for the first time you get acupuncture you kind of come out and be like
wait what just happened? Right. Was that you know some people are extreme responders meaning their
first treatment they're like oh my gosh I feel amazing. I breathe better. I slept better but
other people really need a second treatment to really feel a difference and things you might
notice are more clear-headedness like I said sleeping better, reduction in pain and inflammation
things like that. It's amazing to me too. Now my acupuncture was for the infertility so I mean
that's a crap shoot if that actually works but what are some of the other things that you can
have acupuncture for? Sure so like you said infertility actually specialize in infertility
and psycho-emotional health so I treat depression, anxiety, things like that. We have other acupuncturists
that work with us at Moon Rabbit who really work with chronic pain. We've worked with professional
athletes to treat their injuries. We have a whole gamut and even like I said before digestive
health, headaches, things like that are all things that can be treated with acupuncture. Now for
people who are a little intimidated by it you did say whole body but you can just do individual
parts too correct? You absolutely can and when you meet with your acupuncturist for the first time
they will assess what's the best treatment for you whether it's a whole body treatment, a certain area
or just the face. Okay wow. Well I would ask him how he's feeling but he seems like he's a little
relaxed there. Very relaxed. Very relaxed and now again with this facial rejuvenation you say it's
almost like microneedling. It's like microneedling so just how microneedling works to create
micro traumas in the skin which then your wound healing mechanism helps boost collagen, elastin,
things like that so that you then have this like reawakening meaning like your skin is more well
hydrated, better circulation and reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. We only have a couple seconds
left. What are some of the things that you have there on the table with you? Yes so I obviously
brought my acupuncture needles which as you can see are super tiny. I also brought our Chinese
New Year red envelopes which we're giving out at Moon Rabbit. Love to give to you ladies. That's
right Hong Bao which are given out on the Lunar New Year typically to children but also here at
Moon Rabbit we give out with lucky red bracelets to bring you good fortune this year in the year
of the tiger. Fantastic. What else do you have? We also have our ear seeding kits here which have
become super popular. Kim Kardashian, you see all the celebrities with their ear seeds. They are a
way to keep your zen on the go without needles. Both Julio and I have our ear seeds in and they're
just tiny 24 karat gold beads that go on acupressure points in your ears and they essentially keep your
treatment going without needles and you can do it at home. We have a map in there that you can even
just do it yourself which is really fun. Oh I love that and then you got a little bling on the sides.
We have real Swarovski crystals because you got to make it fun and functional. I love it.
All the information for Moon Rabbit right there on your screen. Thanks so much for being here you
guys. Thank you. How long do we have to leave that in? So how long do we have to leave in the needle?
We would usually leave it in for about 20 minutes so you can just get his zen on. Okay fantastic.
