Hello there! Why do we bring up extraterrestrials first when talking about the human realm in
Samsara? How likely is it that we will be reborn as humans again in our next life?
Stay tuned for the answers. In fact, extraterrestrials belong to the human realm.
Why? Many people have frequently observed extraterrestrials traveling to Earth in
unidentified flying objects, but modern technology has yet to locate their source
in the infinite expanse of the universe. Venerable Master Chin Kung, founder of the Buddha
Educational Foundation of Pure Land Buddhism Teachings, personally saw an unidentified
flying object years ago. It was round and large with green light, suspended in the air.
He pointed it out to many friends around him, and after about four or five minutes of watching,
it started to move. It moved slowly at first, then gained speed, and eventually vanished.
The next day, the newspaper reported it, showing that many people had witnessed it too. He said,
The speed of these vehicles is incredible, far superior to the capabilities of our airplanes,
but in reality, they are still part of the human realm. Why? If they were of the heavenly realm,
they could fly using the supernatural power of divine movement, and wouldn't need such a vehicle.
They are not from the ghost realm either, because the ghost realm similarly doesn't
need a physical means of flight. So, beings like extraterrestrials must be from the human realm,
existing within the same dimensions of space as we do. Naturally, what we humans on Earth
sometimes encounter is just a fraction of them. There are many more present that we don't see.
Their categories are different from ours, as the universe is incredibly vast. Among the six realms,
even the same realm can contain individuals with vastly different levels of fortune and blessings.
For instance, in the human realm, some experience lives filled with heavenly pleasures,
while some others endure immense suffering resembling hellish torment. Another example
would be dogs in the animal realms, where some live lives even more enjoyable than humans,
while others endure extreme abuse. At the time of Siddhartha Gautama's birth,
a fortune teller prophesied,
This child will be remarkable. If he remains a layperson, he could become a wheel-turning
holy king, but if he renounces the world, he may become a teacher of gods and humans
across the three realms. A Buddha, a fully enlightened one. According to the Ksitigarbha
Sutra, engaging in virtuous acts can result in the extraordinary blessings of becoming a
wheel-turning king. Examples include discovering ancient stupas, temples, scriptures, or Buddha
images that have become damaged over time and undertaking to repair or rebuild them,
or offering medicines, food, and bedding with compassion to the elderly, the sick,
and expectant mothers to ease their suffering. Such deeds generate immeasurable karmic rewards.
Also, in the Avatamsaka Sutra, the wheel-turning holy king, or the noble wheel-turning king,
referred to at that time, is described as having treasures whose origin cannot be found.
What does it mean? According to Maser Chinkung, the wheel-turning holy king, mentioned in the
Sutra, is the highest ruler in the human realm. In a small unit of the world, such as the size
of the Milky Way mentioned in a previous episode, there are the golden wheel king, silver wheel
king, copper wheel king, and iron wheel king, each ruling one to four of the four great continents
in that region. The wheel-turning holy king has immense blessings and possesses the seven
treasures. Some people have seen unidentified flying objects, and the Buddhist scriptures
say that these are their means of transportation, which is also one of their seven treasures.
Upon his coronation, a heavenly king presented him with the wheel treasure. The Buddhist
scriptures say, by turning the wheel treasure, he subdues the four directions. Thus, he is called
the wheel-turning king. He uses the wheel treasure, granted by the heavenly realm,
to move instantly through space, for otherwise, it would be impossible to govern such a vast
territory. Their transportation is so powerful that they can complete their patrols and gather
all the necessary information very fast. With people on earth today acting recklessly and not
learning goodness, after their investigation, they could bring disaster upon us, which is highly
possible. If we are able to transform our hearts and cultivate goodness, stopping evil and
accumulating virtues, the wheel-turning king will reward and honor us, rather than punish us.
Since extraterrestrials belong to the human realm and have such advanced technology,
even though their blessings are greater than those in our Jambudvipa, Master Chin Kung said,
if they do not know the Buddha Dharma and do not understand the practice of chanting the
Buddha's name, they still experience birth, aging, sickness, and death, and cannot fundamentally
solve the problems. All phenomena are manifested by the delusions, distinctions, and attachments
of us sentient beings. Because these delusions, distinctions, and attachments are infinite,
the dimensions of space are likewise boundless. So, is being reborn as a human a good destination?
Generally speaking, the human realm is a mix of both suffering and joy. Unlike other realms,
which tend to be dominated by either excessive suffering or excessive pleasure, because it
neither indulges us with too much pleasure nor overwhelms us with unbearable suffering,
the human realm is the most favorable for cultivation among the six realms.
Whether born into a wealthy family in the human realm or a poor one, how likely is it that we will
have the opportunity to be born as humans again? In fact, being born into the human realm is
extremely rare and precious. Just how rare and valuable is it? We are located on the southern
side of Mount Sumeru, in the Jambudvipa continent, a blessed place where Buddhas and Bodhisattvas
come to teach and guide beings. As stated in the Sitigarbha Sutra, the people of southern
Jambudvipa commit grave sins, including the five heinous acts and ten evil deeds. Yet,
there are also those who choose to endure hardships, diligently practice, and can set
aside their violent ways to follow the Buddhist path. Thus, the chance to attain a human body
and cultivate the path is incredibly precious within the six realms of samsara. However,
in Gampopa's The Jewel Ornament of Liberation, it is said that attaining a human body within the
six realms is the most difficult. How difficult is it? Once, a disciple asked the Buddha,
how many will be reborn as humans in the next life? The Buddha rubbed the ground with his fingernail,
collected some dust in his hand, and replied, the human body is like the dust in my palm,
while the loss of the human body is like the dust on the vast earth. Additionally,
both the Bodhisattvacharyavatara and the Sutra on the True Dharma use a metaphor. Imagine a turtle
with one eye blind floating in the vast ocean. Someone throws a piece of wood with a single hole
in it into the water, and one day, the turtle coincidentally encounters it. This is already
an incredibly rare occurrence, yet the rarity of attaining a human body is even more extraordinary.
The turtle's head fitting perfectly into the hole in the wood is an extremely low probability event.
The opportunity to be born as a human is already so rare, yet to hear the Buddha's teachings
is even harder, and having the faith to practice them is even more difficult to attain. Therefore,
if you are watching this video and have faith, your blessings are far beyond what you can imagine,
and your karmic obstacles are much less than you might think. Even now, many still yearn for a
joyful life and ask, why go through such hardship, like Shakyamuni Buddha renouncing his royal throne
to forsake worldly pleasures for the path of practice? How can we address the challenges of
the eight sufferings of human life? Don't forget to subscribe for the upcoming episode. Best wishes
