hi guys and welcome back to my channel
if you are new welcome my name is Hannah
and on this channel we talk all things
home decor home Aesthetics mixing high
and low with new and old and in today's
video we are discussing some unexpected
items to decorate for home decor so if
this is something you are interested in
watching just keep on watching all right
if you are just clicking on this video
Welcome in today's video I'm going to
show you guys how I decorate with some
unexpected items how I've taken items
that maybe people would Overlook when in
vintage or antique shops and how I
Incorporated them in my home and how I
style with them it's almost become this
like really just obsessive game of mine
of finding cool things when out shopping
and trying to look at things through a
different lens and how I can incorporate
items that maybe aren't for their
intended purpose in different ways I
always push you guys to think outside
that box when it comes to decorating
your spaces because I feel like as we
know things get very redundant here on
social media platforms if you can tweak
your way of thinking and try to think
outside the box by taking maybe an item
that is being used for one thing and
incorporating it in your home in a
different it's going to bring such a
unique and very one-of-a-kind original
element to your space so again in
today's video I have a few items that
I'm going to Showcase how I Incorporated
them in my home and hopefully give you
guys some inspiration again on looking
through home decor through a different
lens but without further Ado guys let's
get into today's all right so the very
first item is an ashtray now I'm not
talking about the ashtrays that you guys
see at like a restaurant or a bar there
are some really cool ashtrays to be
found on Etsy and really cool vintage
and antique shops now the two ashtrays
that I'm going to Showcase within my B-
rolls today one of them is a
checkerboard print and then the second
one is a raw Onyx ashtray that I found
on Etsy now I forgot to State this in my
intro but I will do my best to link
similar items Down Below in the
description box a lot of these items are
vintage they're all oneof a kind but I
will do my best to link similar options
if not very close down below in the
description box but I use ashtrays for
grounding my candles I love bringing
together candle moments I love bringing
together a story when it comes to
showcasing my candles and the asay is
just the perfect size for your candle I
just kind of decided to bite the bowl
one time the checkerboard print which if
you are new to my channel I just really
love checkerboard I figured bringing
that to my home was a really cool way to
just pop that little bit of pattern in
and then I placed a candle on it and to
my surprise it fit perfectly so think
outside the box when looking at ashtrays
I know they represent smoking and
whatnot but there are some really cool
ashtrays out there and if you don't want
to use it for maybe a candle like I'm
using it you can also use it as a little
trinket dish this could be the perfect
little size dish to put on the side of
your nightstand to drop your rings and
jewelry in and so just because it's
labeled ashtray doesn't mean we have to
use it for that intended purpose again
think outside that box and see if you
can utilize an ashtray in a different
way
all right the second item I have in my
home is a cigar mold now I recently
purchased these when I went on vacation
in Franklin Tennessee with my family
during the holidays and while I was
there they had a really amazing antique
store in town and when I was shopping I
came across these cigar molds so what
they are are two pieces of wood that
connect together but when you unconnect
them you can see exactly where the
cigars would go in order to be molded
and I just thought it was so cool so
unique so you're getting two pieces and
I have them just styled on my coffee
table as a Decor element now I also have
styled them just being on top of coffee
table books or if you really want to
step outside that box you could get
multiple cigar molds and create some
sort of like mural on your wall
utilizing it as almost as if it's an art
piece so I definitely think when you are
shopping in antique stores or vintage
shops to kind of keep an open mind when
you come across items and how you can
incorporate them in your home to have a
really cool and unique look now if you
have Cigar molds too I've also used them
as a way for my kids to place their
drinks on so it's almost like a big
coaster there are just Endless
Possibilities but I thought this was
such a cool way to add not only the
warmth Through the Wood color but it
also brought a lot of texture to my
space so the second item that I've
Incorporated that is unexpected is a
vintage cigar mold all right the next
item is very similar in look to the
cigar mold but that is my vintage
washboards I picked these up a few years
ago at the great junk hunt here in San
Diego and I have become honestly
obsessed obsessed with vintage
washboards they add so much texture so
much warmth they're just so interesting
and I recently was kind of messing
around with my Decor utilizing my
washboard and decided to put it in my
picture stand I wasn't quite sure if it
was going to fit or if it was actually
going to stay put but it did and I just
absolutely love the way this looks it's
bringing texture it's bringing your eyes
up so it's doing a more vertical versus
a horizontal if you were to use a
picture and I just am so excited how
this turned out now another way I've
utilized these in my home is just
placing them on my coffee table and you
could do candles on them you could do a
match close you could almost have it be
a way to ground a space very similar to
The Cigar molds but I think vintage
washboards are something that people
Overlook another way we can utilize them
is layering them with cutting boards or
one thing I do want to do with these I
have to get a few more but I want to
make some sort of artwork piece with
them so stay tuned for that if I decide
to you know pull the plug on that so
having some creativity with those
because they're very very cool and very
unique so the next item is a vintage
washboard all right the next item is
Stone bowls now I have recently gotten
really into stone just Raw Stone in
general obviously if you have been with
me for a while I love marble I love my
Onyx but Stone like Raw Stone has become
something that I've been almost obsessed
with I recently got some new stone bowls
I have one that is in my office that I
use as a bowl to house you know my
glasses for my computer my my pens my
markers things for my office and then I
also have one down here that I have to
house all of my remotes so although I
don't have like having my remotes on
showcase it's also about being
functional here in my home as well we do
have two kids we watch television every
single night so having that be a little
just drop bowl for housing my remotes
but also keeping it very functional and
obviously aesthetic is also important to
me so utilizing it for that I have stone
bowls in my bathroom to house bath salts
for my bathtub Stone bowls are so
Universal they add texture they add
different warmth Stone bowls can come in
Grays Browns obviously your Earth your
tones and they just bring some sort of
new element to a space and another thing
that I really love about these Stone
bowls they're all different within this
video you guys will notice these items
are all going to vary there's not going
to be one that is going to be the same
from another and that's something that I
really really love about finding unique
pieces is that no one will be the same
and so with stone bowls they're all cut
differently they all have different
color variations throughout them which
makes them that much more special so
next time you see a stone Bowl there's
so many ways we can incorporate them
within our home just even on top of a
coffee table book as a Decor element as
well so don't overlook your stone Robble
So speaking of stone the next item that
has become a quick Obsession of mine are
Stone mortars now similar to the Bowl
the stone mortar is going to be a little
bit more of a bowl whereas the stone
bowls are more of a dish so they're
lower in Prof file they can't hold as
much but the mortars are really cool
because they have that deep pocket so
you can utilize them as a fruit bowl you
can utilize them as a way to house a
candle you guys will notice in my B-
rules I showcase them two different ways
I have the white marble Stone mortars
that those are from Europe they are very
cool very interesting they're all
handcarved and they have these little
notches on the exterior which makes them
so cool and so unique I have those
currently next to my stove with some
fruit as well as cloves I did get a
question on why I had cloves in those I
do simmer pots all the time here in my
home and I just love incorporating
cloves for that natural fragrance now
the other Stone mortars those are just
plain those are almost like a granite
they're usually come at a gray earthier
tone color I love these for housing
candles I did this last year for the
first time just again kind of messing
with things and and thinking how I can
utilize just a stone Bowl in a different
way and I am putting candle pillars in
there and they just have been such a hit
here in my home I've seen a lot of
people replicate this look and it's such
a cool way to just house a candle now if
you don't want to use it for a candle
you can use it as a way to have some
little bit of crystals in there or you
can do the sand candles I don't know if
you guys have seen those where you pour
the sand wax into a vessel of your
choice and then put the wick use it as a
burning candle I've also seen people use
the stone mors as a candle itself so
maybe taking a cheap candle from TJ Maxx
or HomeGoods and then pouring that
candle within that that mortar and
creating your own candle I think Jenna
did that on her YouTube channel I'm not
quite sure but there are so many ways to
incorporate Stone elements including
mortars in your home but those are just
a few items that I have Incorporated
them in M all right the next item is a
spice holder now I found spice holders
in my trip to Arizona last summer at one
of my favorite places called The Potato
Barn if you are in the Arizona area
Phoenix area there is store called The
Potato Barn is one of my favorite places
they had a whole bin of these spice
racks that have a really cool almost
diamond shape and they're all handcarved
now they're used for spice so one
compartment is for salt and one
compartment is for pepper but I decided
to use mine personally as a way to hold
my matches so again I love creating
candle moments so I have my candle my
Wick trimmers and then I've used that
spice holder as a way to hold my matches
and you can put a striker on the bottom
so it's obviously functional as well now
if you don't want to use them as a you
know match holder I've also done it
where I use it as a candle holder so I
have another spice holder that I've used
to put a little candle in there I've
also done like palosanto and Sage sticks
in there just as a way to bring this
like natural element and another layer
to say a Decor you know Decor element or
Decor vignette on your coffee table I
think the more interesting elements we
can add to a space the better and these
types of items I get questions on all
the time because they just aren't used
to being seen they're not used to being
showcased the way that I like to
Showcase them and so again thinking
outside that box and how we can take
something that is labeled something like
a spice holder and how we can
incorporate it in our home in a
different light so that is the next all
right this next item I am obsessed with
as well I'm sure you guys are so over
when influencers or content creators say
like oh I'm totally obsessed with this
item but if you have been with me for
while you know just how much my love for
these next items go I came across a
vintage fabric stamp while I was
antiquing in Valley Center a few years
ago I then came across a huge container
of them at the great junk hunt here in
San Diego a few years back and I stocked
up on a bunch of them these are just so
cool for decorating I love them as a way
to have them on my coffee table books I
have a few of them in different shapes
and different sizes to create a really
cool like coffee table book topper now
I've also in the recent weeks have
gotten super creative on how I show them
I've not only showcased them just on
coffee table books but I recently
started putting them in a bowl Al
together and then my most recent way of
styling these fabric stamps I recently
put felt on the bottom of a few of them
that were really really flat and I made
them into a coaster I actually showcased
this on my Instagram where I just made
one of my fabric stamps into a coaster
to place a drink on it is such a cool
look it is so simple so easy there are a
variety of different sellers on Etsy
that sell them and one thing again
that's super cool about these fabric
stamps they're all different and I just
love the way they look they're so unique
in their own way and again so you can
use them as a bll filler you can use
them as a coaster you can use them as a
coffee book topper and then you can also
showcase them as a way of art I've also
had them in my picture stands before
just showcasing my larger ones and they
make for really cool elements so that is
the next all right and this last item is
an item that I have showcased in my home
for many years if you have been with me
since my mom with muscle days geod
crystals quartz crystals that I have
just enjoyed a lot in my home and I
think they bring not only this natural
beauty to them they come in all
different shapes size colors and there's
so many ways to incorporate them within
your home so you guys will see in my B-
rules I have a few of my really large
shode crystals and quartz crystals
showcased on the sideboard in my office
I have one on my media console I've also
done big selenate Wands on coffee table
books I've showed case little geod
Crystal like shards of geod crystals in
a jewelry box and then my most recent
find I came across a selenite slab so
it's just a really thin layer of selite
at HomeGoods and I decided let's use it
as a way to house my candles or my match
clo for just another layer to those type
of elements and it brings such a cool
unique look I get questioned all the
time on where I find stuff like this and
it just makes your space stand out a
little bit more it brings something
different and unique the whole point of
this video is to really look through a
different lens when it comes to
decorating your home how you can think
outside that box and take an item that
is meant for one thing and maybe
utilizing it in your home in a different
way and I'm telling you when you do that
you start kind of pushing the boundaries
on what you can do and how you can
decorate with different items really
makes for a really cool and unique
one-of-a-kind look and that is exactly
what I want you guys to strive for this
year is to not go to Big Box brand
stores and buy everything that everybody
else is buying but to try to think
outside the box shop small shop vintage
shop Goodwills there are so many really
cool elements that we can incorporate in
our homes and just utilize them in
different ways than their intended
purpose so I hopefully you guys enjoyed
today's video and got some ideas on how
I have done that within my home but
until the next video I love you guys so
much thank you for being here and we'll
see you guys soon peace
