Today's the big day! After running a 5k, 10k, and half-marathon in the last three days, now Daniel has to tackle the marathon - a 26.2 mile run through all four of the Disney World parks. Will he survive this insanely crazy marathon challenge with next to no sleep (thanks Dash!)? Join us to see! 😂
Good morning, Wanderers. It is 2 a.m. and today is
the big race day. It is the full marathon.
I am,
from being 100% honest with you,
so tired and really looking forward to completing this last day of races.
Dash and Lauren are still asleep, but I know they'll be joining me later as a spectator.
I am warming up some coffee. I'm not warming up. I'm cooking coffee. My brain is not even operational yet.
And then I'm gonna get dressed and it's gonna be time to head to the starting line.
Much better.
Here's a little
endurance athlete pro tip slash something pretty funny, actually.
This is called body glide and if you run long races, you already know what it is.
But essentially, if you know any area on your body that's gonna cause some friction over, like,
long periods of time, you kind of, like, lube yourself up with this stuff and it prevents any chafing or anything like that.
The thing about body glide is
you don't realize which spot you've missed until you're, like, late in the race and you're like, oh, yeah,
I definitely should have body glided that section up.
So that's kind of the funny thing about this, too. If you forget to put this somewhere, you're gonna know later in the race.
Game day outfit, got my headband on, keeps my ears warm, got some arm sleeves,
got some amazing singlet from our friends over at Bell Lap.
They support professional athletes on their journey. I've got some half tights here,
some sexy socks. These are actually graduated compression socks, so they help with some circulation and all that good stuff.
I'm gonna wear my shields because it's a little chilly out. I'm gonna wear this to the starting line and rip them off.
You still seem pretty energetic, all things considered. I am ready to finish this last day of running.
It is 2.38 and
I have already missed the first bus at 2.30. I've had a hard time getting up and getting out today.
There's a 2.45 bus which leaves in,
well, now six minutes. I don't know if I'll make that one either, but either way,
I need to start hustling to the bus area because I've got to get to the starting corrals.
Today is gonna be
very challenging and very interesting.
It is, let's see, I've run
11 or 12 marathons. This is going to be the first day where I haven't rested the day or two prior to the race.
Ideally, you want to show up to the starting line
with some fresh legs,
fresh muscles, fresh everything, but
my muscles are already kind of screaming at me a little bit, so
it's gonna make today a little challenging. We're gonna see how this goes.
This is definitely gonna be a video you don't want to miss
while I'm making my way over to the buses.
Interesting thing,
Fort Wilderness is called Fort Wilderness for a reason.
And
there's been plenty of wildlife here that we've spotted, but yesterday when I was walking back from the buses,
I didn't get this on video, I wish I would have, but literally a deer just popped out of the woods and
it was,
gosh, just a few feet away from me. Actually, I was on my way to the race, a few feet away.
It kind of looked at me like, what are you doing up so early?
This park's usually all mine this early in the morning, but
and then it kind of stared at me and it just kind of jumped across the road there and went about his day, so
and I've heard there's other
wildlife here kind of roaming the property as well, so that's kind of cool.
Made it to the buses. Oh, I think I caught the 245 bus, but I need to hurry, so time to hop on.
It's 3 o'clock, the baby is still asleep, hoping to keep it that way until I can get ready and go catch the 4 o'clock bus today.
I was really planning on sleeping until at least 3 o'clock this morning,
because today is going to be basically double the length of time-sharing than yesterday was,
but I'm so excited for a day when I really couldn't sleep, so
here's to that.
The true story.
Our house this morning is a total disaster.
We've just been so eagerly waiting for the new developer,
and we've been here just as good as best we can,
but we have not kept our normal organizational systems, so I'm going to have to fix that
when I get home today, because it's driving me crazy.
Alright baby Josh, are you ready for day two of spectating?
Daddy's going to run a marathon today! Yay, go Daddy!
So shocked me, I'm quite disheartened.
Somebody is where they were yesterday.
Are you excited about seeing Daddy go run?
You ever heard of a pizza cone?
Neither have I, but I'm already hungry, and it is looking yummy.
I just wish I could eat it before this race, but maybe afterward,
because now I'm just kind of curious.
Really, really cool story to share.
I met a young lady in the bus,
and she has run all 30 Disney races over the past 30 years.
She's done the marathon distance for all 30 years,
and that is impressive, and that includes
the very first Goofy and the very first Doofy Challenge.
So she's one of a select few that have been here every single year,
and what she told me on the bus is that every year she typically races for time,
but she was considering this as her last one since she's getting a little up in years,
and that she was just going to run today and just soak in every single moment of it,
and that is just awesome.
Just a good reminder that at the end of the day,
we all need to take a moment and just appreciate the fact that we can even do this,
and just the fact that we're vertical,
because any day you're vertical, that's a good day.
Since I overslept a little bit by about 20 or 30 minutes,
caught one of the later buses, which is never a problem,
but I'm in the first corral, so I kind of need to start making my way there now.
Like I mentioned yesterday, it's about a mile walk from where they drop you off to the starting corrals,
and it is almost 4 o'clock,
so they'll be lining people up in those corrals pretty quickly.
Thank you, Michael.
All right, the marathon is off.
See the crowd behind me?
Goals are not going too fast today.
Nice, leisurely pace.
Okay, here we go.
Just about three minutes into the race,
and I think I see our first character ahead.
Who's it going to be?
A little over a mile in.
Just checking in.
That's what I'm going to do for every mile.
So far, feeling pretty good.
Our pace is not going out too fast.
The temptation is there because you feel great,
the weather is great, but you can't do it.
Here comes a little extra motivation.
There we go.
This is our fourth dizzy character.
They're lined, so I'm not stopping, but I will at least get a little snapshot.
Hey!
All right, character number five.
This is his video.
Okay, there we go.
Back on the run.
I hope you're feeling good out there.
Hey!
All right, we're here.
We're hitting that first water station.
Here comes some water.
Thank you so much.
All right, here we go.
I'm going to bend your cup,
and it will spill everywhere.
And dispose of your water properly.
Just got word from Lauren.
Her and Dash beat the 3.5 mark.
Getting there.
It's always exciting to see them when you're running something like this.
It is one rollercoaster of emotions, to say the least.
This is a daily vlog, so I include absolutely everything.
And I have to take a little pit stop.
Got a little baby bladder action going on today, but it's the way it is sometimes.
These are the corrals to my right.
That haven't started yet, but are about to.
They're about to start.
Some of the waves here.
There's more RVs!
Got more of those RVs!
There's an RV.
Just passed mile four.
I was supposed to meet Lauren at 3.5.
Definitely think I missed her.
Overall, everything's going well.
Just looking for my next character.
So far, so good.
Ah, it's probably a little shaky.
Got a character to stop.
But there's no line.
There's this video.
There we go.
Woo!
Just passed mile six.
And good news is, only 20 to go.
No big deal.
No, but in all seriousness, it's a marathon starts at mile 20.
It really does, because after that, you enter what I like to call the pain cave.
And everybody's suffering at that point.
Doesn't matter whether you're a first timer or an elite athlete.
It hurts.
And especially after these first three races, it's going to hurt extra special today.
So, here goes more characters.
And there's no line.
Oh my goodness.
Okay, here we go.
Oh, I'm just doing a video.
Thanks so much.
Okay, it's this video.
Ah!
Okay.
Seven miles in.
Just on this big, wide open road.
As you can see over my head here.
Oh, there's a car coming.
I hate to say that it's already getting a little tough, but it kind of is.
My hamstrings are feeling really tight right now.
Yeah.
But I'm about to see Lauren.
And as all good husbands do, you just tell me you're feeling amazing and keep going.
Check out that cool building.
If it looks familiar, it is.
It's one of the longest standing rides here at Disney.
And I've heard lately they've kicked on the lights inside.
So, that would be interesting to ride it with the lights on.
I don't know if that would be a good thing or a bad thing.
But, uh, really cool to see today.
Important things.
We have secured Baby Dash a pair of ears.
And now we're headed to Go Find Dad.
Hi, buddy.
What do you think about your ears?
Hey, I'm still a little sleepy.
Woo!
Good job, Daddy!
Yeah.
I know, I'm sorry.
Video!
Main Street is still decorated for Christmas.
Video camera, nice.
Don't worry, Baby Dash.
We're coming back here tomorrow.
How you feeling, dude?
Are you sleepy?
You're looking like you're getting sleepy again.
Alright, a little video action here.
Woo!
Here we go, just a little video action.
Got any rum shots for me or anything?
I could use one of those.
Just past mile 11, feeling pretty good.
I think I've got all the characters so far and mile markers.
But you just never know, because some of them are kind of hidden off to the side.
Comes down to character stat.
I wish I could tell you which number it is, but I really don't know.
Ah, just video.
Thank you.
Alright, let's do this!
I've got my friends.
Chippendale!
At this point, I'm finding myself saying, let's do this like 10 times.
I think it's because my brain is misfiring.
Feeling a little tired.
Another character!
Here we go!
Ah, here we go.
One more character.
Hey!
Okay, back to the race.
Thank you.
Hi!
Alright, let's do this!
Hitting the halfway point of this thing.
A little under two hours.
Goals is just comfortably finished under four.
I don't know if that's going to happen.
Muscles are feeling a little snug, so we'll see how that holds out.
But fingers crossed, everything goes well.
Yeah, okay.
So tired.
Here's another character sighting!
Oh, it's a good one too.
I like this one.
Little known fact.
They hand out bananas at some of these stations.
And I'm like highly allergic to bananas.
So, every time there's like a row of bananas facing me, it's like someone's sticking out a knife.
Because that will literally kill me.
Yeah, full anaphylactic shock.
Cold on yards.
But yeah, fun little tidbit while I'm running and starting to feel a little delirious from the mileage.
Almost there.
Well, not really. We'll get in there.
Is this a 5k? This 5k course is long!
Yeah, they stretched it out this year.
Okay, that's what I thought.
Oh, better dragon ahead!
Fun fact, Lauren and I and Dash are all Year of Dragons.
Here we go!
There we go!
Woo, go dragons!
Actually, my brain's had some time to process.
Actually, Lauren and I are both Year of the Dragon, and Dash is Year of the Tiger.
So, we are, inside our knowledge here, planning for a second one.
Probably in 2024.
So, I'm not exactly sure what year that would be in the Chinese calendar, but if you know, drop in a comment below.
We've got some birds of prey sitting up there in light poles.
It's very smart of them to sit there and wait past half a marathon point because that's when people start dropping and they will be ready.
They're already licking their chops.
Here comes mile 16!
Woo!
Or 15! Oh, crap, 15.
Oh, come on now, can't miss it!
There we go!
At about the 17 mile mark, 17-ish, somewhere around there.
Doing well so far.
Muscles are definitely screaming at me.
But, we're running through Animal Kingdom, and this is legitimately the first time I've ever been in Animal Kingdom.
And it makes me want to come back and see this park because I haven't been here yet.
So, adding that to my list of things I need to do, go to Animal Kingdom.
It's really cool here.
What's that? Oh!
Oh, no, it's okay.
It's just video.
Bananas!
It's getting bananas!
Okay, so far, I think I have a perfect score. I think I've gotten all the mile markers and all the characters.
I'm always on the lookout because sometimes they're just hidden off to the side.
But, overall, so far so good.
I'm so tired.
I'm really, really wanting my bed.
Can't get my feet to relax.
Getting there. Mile 18.
8.2 to go.
Check out my little friend here!
I know, it's reminding me I need to go to bed.
Hi, Sophia!
Her name's Sophia. She's a Catalan sheep. She's 11.
That is amazing.
Okay, back to race.
A couple of favorites here.
Alright.
We are at mile 19.
Yeah.
Things are going well.
Every race I keep running into this guy.
And he is awesome.
Just looking at a decent pace today.
Trying to take it easy. This is both race 4 for us.
Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
Feeling good? Mile 20. Yeah, that's it.
6 to go.
The characters got stopped.
Yes, sir.
Okay.
Yay!
Mile 20. We're getting there.
We're getting there.
Temperature is getting a little bit warmer.
Not in a bad way. It's a comfortable temperature.
In the morning it was a little chilly, so it feels pretty good now.
We've got 6 to go.
6.2. Technically, you don't want to forget that .2 because it means something.
So far, so good.
I keep saying that.
I'm like, deliriously tired.
Whenever you hear me say, so far, so good, it's probably because I'm in pain.
I'm in pain, yeah.
But I just tend to laugh it off and keep going.
Another thing to say about mile 20 is
it's when it really is make it or break it.
You know what typically hits the fan around mile 20?
Sometimes mile 18.
Why people call it the wall.
But if you can make it to mile 23,
you're pretty much golden because
the motivation will just easily take you to the finish line.
So you can see behind me a little bit.
Kind of more space between runners
as you click away the miles.
Positive is that
there are like no lines for any of the characters at this point.
Which is great because I'm trying to get them all.
We're waiting for daddy but someone's so tired.
We're at mile 21, 22.
There's still character stops.
I love it.
And there are so many water stations which is great.
So you don't have to worry about hydration.
See behind me.
At 23, this is where mindset is everything.
My legs are in fuego.
They hurt so bad right now but
gotta keep pushing.
Past, I think we've hit 24, I'm not quite sure.
We're at least close.
But Lauren's been texting me pictures.
Her and Dash.
And the last one, she's holding up a glass of champagne.
I also have to say I'm a little jelly.
But I'll be craving a glass of champagne pretty soon here.
I'm collecting y'all puzzle pieces.
Thank you so much.
We're almost there.
Can I borrow a carpet?
I can really use a carpet right about now.
I wish for a carpet.
Okay, back to the race.
There we go, we're almost done.
As I was saying earlier, I've got this.
Which means I'm deliriously tired.
This next commercial break is brought to you by the makers of
Fall 25, one more to go.
It's starting to get a little bit warmer.
The sun is definitely out.
So I'm really looking forward to finishing.
My legs are in so much pain.
Everybody hurts during these.
There are no exceptions.
So I'm looking forward to stopping.
I'm going to do a jog in mile 26 seconds.
Because I think if I stop, I'm going to fall over.
So there it is.
Here comes the finish.
Sunday morning.
That was amazing.
And there's Kenzie Brinkley bringing it in.
That was better than I thought.
I thought I was going to hit that wall.
But I wasn't having that today.
Mind set.
Hi from Bird Camera.
What's up?
Bird Camera Society team.
How amazing is this?
30th anniversary marathon medal.
And medal number four.
So Dash is going to be doing it later.
Now, since I completed all four,
I got a Goofy medal and a Dopey medal.
Which both look pretty awesome.
And it's a 10th anniversary Dopey medal.
So I'm super pumped about that.
Yeah.
Awesome.
Gosh.
What a great overall experience.
It has been...
It was so much fun.
And there he is on his phone.
Picked up a little bit of power aid and water.
So important to hydrate.
Especially after something like that.
And it's starting to get a little warm out here.
So there's that.
Next step, try to find Lauren and Dash.
The good news is I have my phone.
I typically don't run with a phone.
But it has been so much fun recording this whole journey with you guys.
Oh, there's some special bunny ears.
Oh, gosh.
Can you put that on my head?
I'm sorry. I'm a free hand.
Thank you so much.
Check it out.
I got some bunny ears.
Mouse ears.
Gosh, I'm so tired.
Brain's not working.
Look at what I see over here.
Look at that.
Check out my ears.
All of us have ears.
You got Dash ears.
Hi, baby.
Hi, Dash.
How do you feel?
Great.
Yeah, I mean, it's weird, but I feel great.
I know.
I don't want to do another one, but I feel good.
All right.
So now it's time to pick up those challenge medals.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
You look delirious.
Yeah, I know. I am delirious.
I'm so tired.
You look pretty good.
There we go.
Thank you.
One more medal.
That's the one.
Thank you so much.
Look at that.
All of the bling.
Yes.
Thank you.
No, thank you.
Hey, man.
Got some snack boxes over there.
Some bananas.
No, thank you.
The bananas is how I'm feeling right now.
I'm feeling a little bananas.
So, yeah.
Gosh, I am so tired.
I don't know what the total mileage is,
but we're going to tally it up.
Too sorry.
Now that I'm stopping,
now my legs feel a little crampy.
But at least I'm done.
Before the race,
it was early in the morning.
Gosh, my brain is not working right now.
Obviously, yeah.
I talked about a place
that had pizza cones
and there's a short line.
So, I'm all about it
and we're going to try to get one.
Look at baby Dash.
She's so sleepy.
Here we go.
Now, this is a new post-marathon treat.
This really is.
Look at that.
360 pano here of this.
I'm assuming this can't be
their only stop.
If you're in the Orlando area
and you look up Pizza Conic,
I'm sure they're probably around,
but check this deliciousness out.
I think this is a great
post-marathon snack.
Take a bite.
I want to know what it's like.
Here, you want to give me one?
I haven't gotten to the cheese yet.
It's still in there.
It's hot,
so it could be a little bit longer.
Okay, making progress.
How is it?
Really cheesy.
I wonder if it's just cheese
or if there's pizza sauce in there.
Actually, I think there is some pizza sauce in there.
There's a lot.
Ripped off the edges
and using it as mini breadsticks.
Look at this.
Cheesy goodness.
Tastes great.
We want to watch you wobble
to the front door.
You want to watch me wobble?
Oh my gosh.
Somebody is crazy sleepy.
I guess if we wanted to see a waddle,
I would have had to run it.
Happy to be home, little man?
I'm happy to be home.
We've been home
approximately
four or five hours.
How are you feeling, Daniel?
I'm sleepy.
Letting baby Dash
get away with whatever he wants?
Yeah.
I think I'm most excited about
not having an alarm from all of a sudden.
You did it.
Made it.
Made it through all four races.
Most importantly,
made it through all four wake-up calls.
For anybody running this race,
it's not just you running this race.
It's everybody around you
because when your alarm goes off
at 1.30, 2 a.m.,
everyone's involved at that point.
Huge shout-out to
not only all of the runners,
but all of their support teams
that came with them for this.
Yay, Mommy and Dash!
Exactly.
I have, I think,
the best cheer squad here
and definitely the cutest.
Little baby mouse.
Look at baby mouse.
Overall, an absolutely amazing experience.
Check out all these medals.
Look at this.
I've got a 5k medal here.
I've got a 10k medal.
This is the half marathon medal here.
This is a 30th anniversary marathon medal.
And then I've got a goofy medal.
This is for running both the half marathon
and the full marathon.
And then the coveted dopey medal.
And this is for running all four races
and it is also the 10th year,
which is why you're seeing a number 10 on here.
These medals, they're heavy.
Legitimately, I know some people
go to the park wearing all six of these medals.
Kudos to you because I feel like I'm wearing,
I feel like Mr. T right now.
Yeah.
And I pity the fool who goes to the parks
wearing all these medals like this.
That is pretty hardcore.
So are you going to do it again?
I'm saying no right now,
but as all of you know who have run a race before,
that's usually your typical answer
once you've completed it.
And then a week later, if you ask me,
things might change.
So we're going to do this in the very first video.
And here's how we're going to do it.
These are our very, very favorite walkie talkies.
They are called Rocky Talkie
and we reached out to them about doing a giveaway
and they were all on board for this.
They're lithium.
They have a five mile range.
We've been using them for like literally
the last two years.
I think we bought them before we even moved
into the airstrip.
Yeah.
So we got a couple of pairs
and we're going to give away two pairs.
Now, if you're a member,
you're in a smaller group,
so your odds are obviously better.
But what we want you to do.
Well, for the first pair that we're giving away,
we're giving it away to one of our members
who get the answer correct in just a second.
So if you don't know about our memberships,
this is on YouTube.
And if you go to our YouTube channel,
you can click join and you can support our channel.
If you want to become a member,
we would love to have you as part of our member family
on YouTube.
And it means you up the ante
or up the odds on you
getting some giveaways.
Yeah, that's right.
OK, but what do you have to do?
Member or not member?
Member or not member.
So at the very beginning of this series,
this race series,
I told everybody that I would tally up
the total number of miles.
That includes running to the buses
in the morning.
That includes running from the buses
to the starting corrals.
Yes, I did kind of jog all of that.
And that is somewhat silly.
But, but, but, you know,
I do have a total number of miles
and I have it down to the
hundredth of a mile.
So the person that guesses
the closest
You can dash one of the walkie talkies.
I know, right? There you go.
We'll win these walkie talkies.
So drop a comment below
with your guess on
what do you think
the total mileage is
for all four days.
That includes the 5K,
10K,
half marathon,
full marathon
and jogging to and from
starting corrals and buses.
So craziness.
But this is day number six
on our seven day vlog challenge.
So we've got one more Disney vlog
coming to you on our travel day today.
We had originally planned
on going to Magic Kingdom,
but unfortunately Baby Dash got sick
and so we had to have a rest day yesterday.
But we hope you'll join us
for vlog number seven
and we look forward to
giving you a shot
on winning some walkie talkies.
Right, Baby Dash?
Baby Dash! Baby Dash!
Isn't he the cutest
with these ears on?
Say I'm rooting for you!
Yay!
Until next video, friends.
Until next video?
Gosh, my brain is not even working.
Until next time, friend.
Make sure you wander local
because as you know,
it's good for the soul.
