Hi Big Tractor Power fans.
This video comes to you from a field located in South Central Kentucky where a 275 engine
horsepower John Deere 8630 articulated four-wheel drive tractor is working on tillage with a
McFarlane reel disc.
In this presentation, I would like to share with you the tractor's production history,
specifications, and original price tag.
But first, let's head out to the field so that you can see and hear this tillage team
at work.
The John Deere 8630 articulated four-wheel drive tractor was all new for model year 1975
and manufactured in Waterloo, Iowa through 1978.
It brought the top-of-the-line model from the company into the generation two era of
tractor design featuring the Soundguard body.
It was a direct replacement for the model 7520 articulated four-wheel drive, which was
powered by an 8.7 liter, 531 cubic inch engine rated at 175 PTO horsepower.
The 8630 received an upgrade to a 10.1 liter, 619 cubic inch John Deere turbocharged engine
rated at 275 engine horsepower and offering 225 PTO horsepower.
The tractor is equipped with a 150 gallon diesel fuel tank.
In addition to the engine upgrade, the major change between the 8630 and 7520 is the generation
two Soundguard body, which provides a climate controlled cab with standard air conditioning
and heating, as well as excellent visibility and easy control of the machine.
This tractor features a John Deere quad range partial power shift transmission with 16 forward
and 4 reverse speeds, which allows it to travel from 2 up to 20.3 miles per hour.
When this tractor rolled off the assembly line, it weighed in at 22,061 pounds and it
can be fully field-weighted up to 26,480 pounds.
When the John Deere 8630 tractor was new, it had a base list price of $52,475.
Customers could add to the tractor a PTO, which had a price tag of $1,840 and a three-point
hitch, which came at a cost of $4,288.
One other additional option for this tractor that was introduced in 1975 was a John Deere
dozer blade, which was manufactured by Daigleman for the company.
This allowed farmers to utilize their large tractor to push silage, snow, or dirt or to
help clean fence rows to build larger fields for the big implements that the 8630 was designed
to operate.
This dozer blade and its mounting assembly came at a cost of $6,040.
I hope that you've enjoyed spending some time out in the field with this John Deere
8630 articulated four-wheel drive tractor working on tillage.
I would like to hear in the comment section below this video, if you use a John Deere
four-wheel drive tractor in your farming operation, tell me about the model that you're running
and the implements that it operates.
