We are back in our very own backyard.
Should've needed a hand to get out of the car with those coconuts.
One of the best places to take a fall.
I thought he had rolled!
The mighty Glass House Mountains.
But not only are we back, so is the Dirty 30.
Back on Aussie soil and ready to take on some of the best that Glassy has to offer.
Oh, there's a big bang.
Really jammed in there.
Bit of a strife here.
Beautiful clean snap.
And it's in the dip as well.
Graham in the D-Max.
Why's your hand shaking?
I'm shaking.
Sean, of course, is in the 30.
And Jesse is in a zoop.
This is a recipe for some good old-fashioned fun.
I've missed these boys.
Well, Graham, it's good to have you in the Dirty 30, mate.
I was just thinking then, I was reminiscing the last time I was in here,
we were cruising down a seven-lane freeway in America,
and both of us were as white as a sheet.
That's exactly right.
I was getting you to spot traffic as we were trying to do big mergers.
And here we are in the Glass House Mountains,
the first time I've had the Dirty 30 back in Australia.
Surreal.
To do some local tracks.
I'm very excited about that.
Got one question to ask you, though.
Yes.
Are you going to be in here for a long time?
Yes, I am.
I'm making myself at home.
I'm going to stretch out.
We've only got one swag.
That's going to be awkward.
It really is.
No, no, no, no.
Jesse, he's grabbed the D-Max for me because I couldn't grab it.
I just hope he's remembered my swag.
Otherwise…
Hey, hey.
He's ready for one more.
Well, that means he'll be up here somewhere.
He said he'd meet us on this track up here somewhere.
Yeah, sounds good.
It's been a while since the three of us were together,
but Jesse just could not pass up the opportunity to go wheeling in the glassy.
I had the job of dropping the D-Max off to Graeme for a bit of a glassy run,
and I couldn't miss out.
I didn't really want to ride passenger with Sean or Graeme,
so I literally got my sleeve.
I put my car trailer in the back, and I threw the little Zouk on.
I'm going to take the Zouk for its first glassy run.
It should be good fun.
Let's see if these old boys can keep up with me in the Zouk.
There he is.
Hey, look at that.
Hey, there he is.
What are you doing?
You're after a delivery of a D-Max?
Well, yeah, the D-Max.
Yep.
What's going on here?
Well, you were trying to do a glassy run, and the Zouk's never been to glassy.
I thought I might as well throw it in the back and come for a drive.
I like it.
It's what you can do when you've got a pocket knife.
You can just take it anywhere you like.
It's so little, I don't need to put it in the canopy, mate.
I don't think I've wheeled with a Zouk for a long, long time.
Yeah, mate, I wheeled this thing the other day.
It's a ton of fun, and I realize it's going to be its first glassy trip,
so it's pretty special for the little Zouk.
We're going to do it.
Talk me through this.
Are we taking it off the trailer, or are you just sitting in that and I'm driving this?
I'm sitting in that, and you're going to make me look good by driving me through it.
Let's go.
A Zouk, the D-Max, and the Dirty 30.
One perfect for each occasion.
But, of course, we aren't the only ones here.
In fact, there's a pretty mean-looking convoy behind us.
From front to back, Rob from Razzler is frosting at the tracks
and has brought one of the cleaner GQs I've ever seen.
I am absolutely pumped to be at Glasshouse, finally in the GQ.
Bit of a bucket list thing for me to have this car up here.
A more familiar face, our good mate, Aswith, the mid-79,
sporting the short canopy, fit for purpose to take on these tougher tracks.
Well, it's a fun time coming back to the glassy.
Behind him, we've got Bell in the Steed 200,
who's keen as to see what the Glasshouse has to offer.
And rounding out the convoy is Steve from Red Ark.
In his HiLux, that may seem unassuming on the outside,
but inside has every bit of 12-volt you'll ever need, and then some.
Little Luxy, in for a fun trip.
We're not mucking around this trip, and a couple of Ks down the road,
we hit the first track.
I remember this now, mate.
I don't remember it being this big, though.
I don't know, I'm getting older, I'm starting to shrink, so everything's looking...
He can't even walk up here.
Put your lockers on, boys and girls.
To give it some scale, because I like to consider myself to be about a median height,
I'm going to go and stand next to this rock step.
It's roughly one and a half me, mate.
It's a big step.
I've seen some footage, unbelievable footage, of you in the States,
tackling things that...
A little bit more traction in the States.
The glasshouse is a big test of vehicle and character.
One big problem, though, I think I might have, is not even about to get my tyres up there,
because my bull bar's going to run into the rock.
But if I do get the front up, we'll give it a go.
And I think I found the right line.
A little bit over there, a little bit left, right, good night.
To make things interesting, we're going to chuck the Zouk up front.
Jesse, you're a madman.
It looks like it's a remote control.
I might have to go down and give him a bit of advice, I think.
He's the elder statesman of the group.
Hang on, he might have this.
Yeah!
He saw me coming and he didn't want the embarrassment.
Oh my gosh.
Just getting over this little step's going to be quite...
Quite committing.
Look at that, Zouk line.
Holy heck.
There's a fair bit of flex in that bull bar.
Yeah, you're doing it.
Steve, you've got this.
You have this.
Well, you're halfway there, mate.
I don't think I'm going to drive it.
Don't be silly, not with that attitude.
Yeah, rear bar is holding your progress up a little bit.
I don't think there's backwards either now.
That could be me, boys.
Considering that step can literally fit the entire Zouk in it,
that's a great effort.
Is that it going in?
It's going to be scary.
It will be very scary.
By gum, he's doing it.
Perfect.
Unbelievable!
Oh my God, that was so scary!
Yeah!
Yes, hey!
Going to Zouk.
Did you need a hand to get out of the car with those coconuts or are you alright?
Look, I really didn't want to do that,
but if I went around, Shorten had an excuse to go around.
I like what you've done there.
Make way for the human centipede.
It's pretty cool to be behind the wheel of the Dirty 30 again.
First time I've wheeled this thing since being in Sand Hollow in Utah doing some wild stuff.
And here we go.
The boys have packed a few rocks in here,
so hopefully I'll get the right approach angle and at least be able to get that nose up.
Nice.
This way now.
Yep.
Yep, you're right.
It's going to drive through it now.
Keep coming, keep coming.
Beautiful.
Keep coming.
Drive that.
Yep.
Give that a go.
Nah, you got a big rock.
You're on a big rock.
You know what?
I'm going to say it's not as steep as I remember this.
I think it's because we've done a little bit of overseas wheeling,
but my leg's still shaking,
so nothing's really changed.
Still up a fair bit.
Go, go, go.
Here we go.
Yes!
Yeah!
I've got it, Jesse.
I'm going to stop here.
That's sick.
I'm going to stop here.
Yeah, I told you you could do it.
I'm done.
Take me back home.
I'm done.
That's the American short.
Wow, we got him.
No, the cool thing is until today, the only time I'd ever driven it was in a Nissan.
And here I am.
It's got a Nissan steering box, doesn't it?
That must have helped.
I'm stoked with that drive.
Those trips to America really put things into perspective,
but the 30, she's a bit of a weapon.
How cool is this rig?
Oh, I love this rig.
It's such a cool little truck.
Yeah, Graham, you've seen how it's done, mate.
The Zook made it look pretty easy.
The 30 did as well.
You're up.
Let's have a play.
Even this first bit, mate, this is it.
You've got to steer it, don't you?
Yeah, you've got to pick a line in this bad boy,
and you can't be afraid of a wheel lift either.
It's been a while since I've wheeled the D-MAX on the tougher tracks,
but I tell you what, it feels good to be back in the driver's seat.
I love this little rig and the challenges the Glasshouse Mountains have to offer.
This should be fun.
Never celebrate early.
I think it went straight.
What I think you're doing is you're so used to having a caravan on the back,
you're trying to steer late and make the caravan follow the right line.
It's actually quite true.
I've taken some wide lines.
How come? Why is your hand shaking?
It's not shaking, is it?
I've missed these boys.
Is that what happens?
Don't embarrass me in front of my friends.
I think you're diffed out.
He's doing a comedy show.
Sometimes you've just got to...
A little bit left.
Go back.
Go a little bit left.
Yeah, go left from there and give it a little send.
Right, right.
Yeah, beautiful.
A bit more right.
Yeah, that's you.
Doesn't feel sketchy, eh?
Yeah.
Steer now, hard this way.
Beautiful. Go, go, go, go.
Oh no, we've got this.
When he gets scared, he puts his foot down.
Go hard left and back.
We've got this.
Don't worry about it.
There's your other mudflap.
What have I got left to break?
Go, go, go.
Just watch the train.
Wow.
My goodness.
They said he couldn't do it.
If someone tell Graeme he's still going to make happy hour,
even if he slides it down a fracco.
I don't know what I've broken though.
I think we can chalk that down to a bit of a warm up.
Rob, on the other hand, has no excuses in that weapon of a GQ.
Rob, I just want you to take one quick look at that GQ
and just remember it for the beautiful vehicle it is right now.
Oi.
I got past there.
I didn't do that.
But you did about four grand's worth of damage.
I don't care.
It's all fair.
It's a bumpy start from Rob, but he's taken it in his stride.
Got one of them too.
Whoa.
This is going to get happy hour again.
It's coming in at speed.
Yeah.
Front locker on to go up that edge.
100%.
Front locker on.
Everything you got.
Yep.
Go there.
Go, go, go.
Yep.
Go, go, go, go, go.
It was so close to climbing, but the wheelbase is just too long,
which means the GQ is bottoming out on the step
before the rear tyres can climb.
I think you scraped a bit, but you needed a bit of pace to...
Oh.
No way.
That's a Razzler slider down there,
and this is exactly the kind of treatment that they're built for,
to be rammed into rock steps like this.
We'll shimmy a bit.
Yeah, stop there.
Now go hard and back.
Just winch it.
It's all good.
Rob's keen on the winch,
but good old Jesse is calling for a one more no more.
This early in the trip, what could go wrong?
Yeah, and give it a go at that.
Like a big go or just a...
Yeah, a decent go, yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, don't go back, don't go back.
I'm on the brakes.
Oh, my God.
I'm doing all the hard work.
I'm on the brakes.
That's not where you want to stop, Rob.
Yeah.
Yes.
No.
Oh, my goodness.
Yeah.
Turns out Rob fits in perfectly to the Glasshouse Mountains.
GQ, Glasshouse Mountains.
Yep.
He went from wanting to winch
to having both your front wheels in the air up here.
That was good to watch.
Once it started going backwards,
the commitment had to be 110%.
The GQ will be a tough act to follow,
but the Mint Super Tourer has seen its fair share of tough tracks
and as does know how to steer.
Big, big girl.
Love the wheel lift, don't you?
Beautiful.
This way a little bit.
Do what Jesse tells me to do.
Yep.
Now that way, that way, that way.
Front is up.
And then back this way.
This is pretty gnarly.
That's pretty much it.
It'll just grab that rock.
So, yeah.
And you'll soon know if it's going to go or not.
But good luck.
Bloody hell.
This is insane.
Had a bit of pace.
I just hit the belly straight away before that even moved.
I'm over the winch.
Well,
the Nissan got up.
Sean's 3030 got up to go to the Nissan steering box.
The Zouk had to winch,
so as is on Zouk level in the Toyota now,
I wanted to g-muff, have another go.
He's called it to winch.
Probably good as early in the trip,
but he did good to get where he was.
All right, Jesse.
So when you're attaching,
you want to make sure that that is locked all the way in
so there's no way that can come back out.
Okay, yep.
This is just a safety system.
And then what we're going to do over the top of this
is just put what we call a winch dampener on here.
Okay.
Just dampens the road if anything happens down that end of the vehicle.
Yeah.
Look, it's just safety first, mate.
I like to be able to pass these tips on to the younger generation.
No, thanks.
I appreciate it, man.
Very cool.
Taking the tension, Az?
I'll look after that bit, please.
Oh, I was just getting it ready for you to put you.
Okay, thanks.
With safety inspector Graham on the case,
it's not long before Az is on the run back.
It's a mighty effort with the heavy girl,
but the 79 makes it up unscathed.
I'm up.
I'm happy with that.
Well, it's pretty exciting seeing the boys go up first.
They've all had an epic crack at it.
Oh, oh.
Yeah, a little bit to the left.
Yep, yep, yep.
Oh, don't, guys.
Oh, don't listen to me.
Guys, I'm better now.
Make a big noise.
You're doing good.
You've got this.
Going up, yep.
And a little bit left.
Right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right.
Getting a real stitch up with the lefts and rights here.
Yeah, yeah.
Ah, here we go, Jesse.
I'm just going to turn my radio off and listen to yo.
Yeah, I think that's a good idea, Belle.
Yep.
Keep coming, keep coming.
Keep coming.
Now steer hard that way now.
Hard that way.
Yep, now back this way.
Back hard this way.
Hard this way.
My goodness.
Yep, keep coming.
Keep coming, keep coming.
Back over the left.
Far out.
Not even at the head tip yet.
Keep coming.
A step like this is a big ask for a touring vehicle like the Steady 200.
Those 200s are notorious for breaking CVs, and whilst Belle has spares, we all agree
it's a bit too early to be breaking things on the trip.
Nah, it's fairly out the back.
I reckon we turn the lock off and just winch it.
Okay.
I reckon, to be safe.
I'm cool with this.
Yeah.
Because it's fairly hard, big time.
Okay, you're right.
Oh, yeah, yeah, you're right.
Awesome job getting your front up first.
No, cheers to that.
Thanks very much.
That was our plan, get the front up and winch it.
With that, it's the same process as the 79, and the 200 is up on the run bump.
Coming, coming.
It wants it.
That's it.
You're off.
Here we go.
Have a drive.
Well done.
Slow and steady on this bad boy.
Oh, there goes me sidestep.
Yeah, beautiful.
Yeah.
Now swing that way a bit.
Stop and go hard left hand down and back.
A little bit more.
Yeah, stop there.
Then steer hard this way, so it hugs Graham.
Beautiful.
Yeah, beauty.
Well done, little Alex.
With all the vehicles through the first step relatively unscathed, that's only really the
entrance to this track.
A couple of hundred metres down the road, we meet the next challenge, and things start
to heat up.
Good luck.
To myself.
Commit.
Just a bit bunty.
It's just scary to give it more bunty.
Give it a little go.
Woo!
My goodness.
This is nerve wracking.
Zook is pretty wild.
It reminds me of my days wheeling as a youngster.
A heck of a lot of fun.
Well, I've seen Sean do this before up this line here, but it was really ugly.
Like, it was really ugly.
His tail shaft was hitting down here as well, from memory.
The 30, on the other hand, makes it look a little more graceful than the Zook.
Looks a lot bigger from in here.
Why don't you try driver's side, just straight up here.
Go straight.
Same line as the 30.
Go, go, go.
Bunt out.
A little bit left.
Bunt out.
You went too far to the right.
The problem here is that the D-Max hasn't got enough clearance, which means it's bottoming out.
That means I have to commit, which runs the risk of breakages.
Great effort, considering you're completely unlocked.
Yeah.
I mean, if you got that rear locker working, it would change the dynamics of the vehicle.
There's still a lot more track to do, so the winch is a sensible option for the first step.
Whoa!
The next one, well, it's a whole other ballgame.
That's proper hectic.
Yeah.
Just go.
Just a little bit over here, out of that big hole.
Aim up that way.
Go straight.
Go, go, go.
Go, go, go, go, go.
That's a broken CV.
Did I break something when it landed?
Well, that was pretty hectic.
Don't know if I broke the everything.
That's the perfect example of what I'm talking about.
It's such a fine line with these IFS vehicles.
I think that's a CV.
Well, there's only one way to find out exactly.
Let's get in there and actually see if it is a CV.
We will need that.
We've done this before, and it doesn't take long to get the CV out and assess the damage.
The moment of truth.
This will confirm what we probably already know.
As I pull that.
Yep.
And it's in the diff as well.
Unfortunately, not what we're looking for.
We knew it was a broken CV.
Unfortunately, the location where it's broken is right inside the diff.
There's ball bearings.
Gross.
You hold this for a sec.
Yeah, mate.
Have a think about what you've done.
Yeah, I should go to the naughty boy room.
I'd love to be handing you back a nice, clean CV right now, but it ain't going to make much difference.
I have broken this thing on the diff side.
That's the side you don't want to break it.
The break in here, obviously, as it's broken, it's flared out, and it's really jammed in there.
We could try to drill it and pull it out.
I'm not sure if we have the tools for that.
The retaining plate for the CV has a bearing and circlip, and that's been munched up, so we don't have a spare.
Then we've got a spare CV.
A bit of strife here.
Well, unfortunately, I've gone and done a proper job here, as you can see right there.
This thing is not going to be fixable on the track, so that means we're going to put me back together.
I'm going to do a 900-point turn, go back down the track, head back into town, fix it properly,
come back out.
Fingers crossed I don't do it again.
Sean gave me that look you get when you come home too late.
I just got that look just then.
We're going to drive this D-MAX down the highway.
We don't want oil coming straight out of that front diff, so we're going to put this plate back on
and stop the oil with a can, so that's sort of the theory behind it.
Hopefully this works.
With the D-MAX now being held together with a 4X can from last night,
I hit the road back to town to see if I can get this fixed,
in the hope of meeting the crew on the way back to camp.
All right.
Don't like leaving the boys on the track.
Next up, Rob in the GQ.
This thing is at home in the Glasshouse Mountains.
As Bell and Steve have all seen what not to do, Graham, and make good time up the step.
Oh my God! Wow!
I thought it rolled! I thought it rolled!
Dude, if you didn't hold that, if you didn't hold that, you would have been gone.
We're one D-MAX down.
We'll do one Suzuki up.
Next up, a sort of a V-ROC that could swallow the Zouk whole.
He's going up here, is he?
And it looks like it almost has.
The Zouk is now on its side.
Although, somehow, Jesse's still driving it.
You get that back up, Jesse. Get the back up.
He's making a lot of progress.
No front locker.
The second attempt is not as spectacular,
but Jesse picks the right line and somehow gets that Zouk up.
Well done, mate. Well done.
I thought about every line there was, but I got it in the end.
You did every line in one go.
Yeah.
Did I get every wheel in the air?
Just about.
Well, I always give Jock plenty for things like this,
and I've gone and done it myself.
Look at this. Paul Clifford.
Pretty big dint there, but come around the corner here.
Look at this flare.
It looks like it's been through a muncher at the scrap metal yard.
I've got my work cut out for me making this thing look nice again.
Don't show Jock this.
This is a bit sketchy because you're very close to the tree,
and if Jesse's drive is anything to gauge a bike,
things can happen.
I'm not interested in the same fate as Jesse,
but luckily, I can control the 30 a lot more with the auto
and take my time picking a solid line through here.
Boring!
Boring. I know. That was not even on my side, Jesse.
Yeah, it's taken a couple of knocks, but it's not too bad.
Yeah, when you consider it, I think you can almost guarantee
when you come to a place like the Glass House,
your bar work's going to cop an absolute hiding.
Now, I do suggest you come to places like this
with a full ensemble of bar work,
and better still, if you can wrap the coat as well,
if you do get lots of scuffs like I do,
you can touch it up when you get home and it looks brand new again.
But for me, I mean, this is not even just Glass House stuff.
This is all the stuff that happens in the US as well,
and it's not even that badly damaged.
So for me, I'm not going to touch it up just yet,
but should I need to?
I reckon I'll get this looking brand new again.
About 50 metres around the corner, we hit the biggest challenge yet.
Oh my God, how am I supposed to drive up that?
A near vertical wall twice the height of the zoo.
Jesse, good luck.
You know I'm having a go and there's a bit of smoke.
Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.
Oh my God, that was not a good place to be.
Maybe third time's a charm.
Oh my God, I'm blown up.
You're a mad man, you're a mad man.
That was terrifying, I'm not going to lie.
I like doing hard stuff, but that one's scary in a zoo.
Good luck.
I'm not going to need it.
That looked hard in the zoo.
30 needs a bit more white boot, but she's up with no dramas.
Holy.
This place is so much fun.
With a few more scrabbles, Rob and Az kick up some dust and make it over.
That was a bit of fun.
With all the white to his eyes then.
Bell's done well in the IFS 200, managing the front end well.
But just backs off at the wrong moment.
Yeah, keep going, keep going.
Oh no.
You were there.
You were up.
You were there.
You were up.
You couldn't possibly break a CV on this hill.
It's not going to shock light, so you should be fine.
Yeah?
Righto.
Yeah, go, go, go, go, go.
Go, go, go.
That's not the line I want to take, Jesse.
Back then, it would have been fine.
Why?
Look at me.
I didn't.
You couldn't possibly break a CV on this hill.
It's not going to shock light, so you should be fine.
It just started hunting around.
Didn't like it.
This side's the intermediate shaft side too, so it could be that again.
Because that CV looks OK.
I'm out.
Sometimes, I wonder why I opened my mouth.
Looks like all Bell's hard work not to break the front end is undone,
and something's gone bang.
So, Steve's up next.
Sean, what have you got to say about this drive?
I reckon it's almost impossible to do two CVs in two drives.
It can't happen twice.
I only know he strikes once.
You're going to be busy at camp tonight, Sean.
You're going to be busy at camp.
I think I'm going to be very busy.
A couple of cars need fixing.
All right, Steve, good luck.
Enjoy it.
Go, go, go, go, go.
Yeah!
Well done, Steve.
It's the rend on his car.
He goes fast, and he gets up.
Yep, I like it.
And did you hear that?
His microwave just stopped.
He's got a snack in the microwave.
Cooked up.
That was good fun.
Well, we thought we'd just rip straight into this.
We've got the spare parts that we need, if it is an intermediate shaft or a CV.
So, we're going to pull it apart and find out.
Graham's on his way back to camp, so our aim is to quickly get this fixed,
so he can get back to camp.
And we're going to have a coldie.
First things first, we need to take the CV out and see if that's broken.
If not, it's likely the intermediate shaft has failed.
Good and bad news, Bell.
Good news is you haven't got a broken CV.
Bad news is we're going to dig deep.
It's probably an intermediate shaft.
All right, well, it's nice to see one of these not broken.
With the left CV out, it's looking like the problem lies a little further in.
Problem is that the part of the intermediate shaft that's broken is inside the diff,
so we can't really get it out.
We're trying to use a magnet.
If we can't do that, all we have to do is take the other CV out and push it through.
It's a bit of a pain.
Sure enough, the magnet method doesn't work,
but we managed to get the other CV off and bang the shaft out.
Yay!
Beautiful clean snap.
With that, it's just a matter of replacing the broken shaft with a new one,
then throw it all back together.
She's not perfect, but it'll do the job.
We pulled this side out, quickly bashed the broken piece out.
Now we're putting this side back together.
We're going to have a couple of blokes on this side, a couple of blokes on that side,
and as Sean said, we'll be at camp by a beer o'clock.
There we go. That didn't take long.
No, I'm quite impressed.
It was pretty good, actually, and hopefully, after all of this, you've learnt one thing,
one very important thing.
Don't listen to him.
Correct. Bingo.
So now with that done, let's get to camp.
Graham should be on his way.
We should actually probably meet him directly at camp, and definitely a beer o'clock.
I'm with you on that one.
An eventful first day in the glasshouse, to say the least.
Just in time, the sun is starting to set, and we get word that Graham is back in action
and waiting for us near camp.
With a few more obstacles to navigate, we conquer the track and get on the road.
We're up.
The pity of the glassy is camp is just a few clicks from the tracks,
so it's not long before we're parking up in a nice grassy area to call home for the night.
What a day.
Capped off.
Made better.
One way, one way only.
You know exactly what I'm talking about.
This little spot here is called Running Creek Campground.
Now, glasshouse mountains, an abundance of four-wheel drive tracks.
Absolutely insane spot to go wheeling, but it doesn't actually have that much in the way
of nice camping.
It's got a couple of spots, but they're a bit how you go on, especially when you've got
a big crew like this.
Running Creek right here.
We've been coming and camping here now, I reckon, gee whiz, better part of a decade,
and it's superb.
You've got a massive big area out there if you want to camp with huge groups,
and you've got these little intimate sites here.
There's one here, one over there.
There's a little one nuzzled in there.
It's actually got a creek running through here that you can swim in if you want to.
Freezing damn cold, but head down to Running Creek Campground if you're out wheeling in
the old glasshouse mountains and you're looking for a truly magic spot to stay.
Grassy areas, you can have fires, put them in the fire pits.
Superb.
Shivers, nearly forgot my beer.
Cheers, folks.
I've got to say, after doing tough tracks in the glasshouse, to come to a nice little campsite
like this is just a bit of a change of pace, and it's absolutely stunning.
Get the fire going.
I might even cook a meal up tonight.
Now, a lot of you guys with a keen eye would have noticed this blue aerial on the camera vehicle.
Now, it's been running the Kimberley and a bunch of other different tracks around Australia,
and the reason why JME have a blue aerial in their range is because they've actually
teamed up with Beyond Blue, which is a fantastic cause that supports mental health.
Now, 10% of all the sales of these bad boys actually go to supporting Beyond Blue,
and the cool thing is you're not just supporting a great cause.
These are a fantastic Australian-built aerial, and 6.6 dB means they're going to cover you
for just about every single base off-road.
Now, I'm going to go back to the back of the Dirty 30, try and rustle up a few ingredients,
and cook a meal that's worthy of the glasshouse.
Wish me luck.
Well, this is a bit of a special moment because, believe it or not, this is the first time
the Dirty 30 has been on Aussie soil in anger doing some local tracks.
We're here in the glasshouse, one of my favourite haunts, doing some tough tracks.
I'm going to be honest with you guys, when I went to the shops this morning,
I was getting some ingredients before we hit the tracks, and I didn't know what to cook.
So I turned to all the guys, and we were talking about the American trips
and reminiscing on what we did over there, and I thought it was only just fair
that I cook something that we had a lot over in America.
We ate a lot of Mexican food, so I'm going to do some chilli beef tacos.
Now, the first thing I need to do is jump in the Dometic, get the mince out.
Need a hand, mate?
Oh, perfect timing.
I'll give you a hand, bro.
There you go.
Beautiful.
Onions and stuff in there.
It's good that you know your way around a fridge, mate.
Nothing is changing in that situation.
In seriousness, we had a great time.
You've been to America more than me.
You've been twice now.
I've been once, but it's such a cool place.
It really is.
We got to drive tracks that are just so infamous over there.
For me to do it in the old Dirty 30, and then to have it back in the glasshouse mountains.
Crazy.
It's the first time back.
Yeah, and I drove a track today that I haven't done ever before in a Toyota.
That's up to a good temperature now.
I put a bit of extra olive oil in.
Salt and cayenne pepper.
Paprika.
Smoky.
Of course.
Sure.
Smoked.
So, a couple of the guys came up to me, and a couple of the girls, well, one of the girls at least,
just asking me how spicy this is going to be.
You know, everyone comes up individually, and they just go,
look, I can handle heaps of spice, but just how spicy are you going to make it?
Heaps spicy is the answer to that.
You can't call it chili beef tacos without a bit of spice.
Holy cheese.
So, get that going.
I told them.
Look at this.
I'm crying in a bucket.
The keys.
Hey, you're all.
No, don't.
No, no.
It's all good.
It's all working out real good.
Don't worry.
Can I ask a question to the folks whilst we stir?
Sure.
Do you blokes get together, and ladies, do you all get together after a day's wheeling and cook?
Do you enjoy it?
We have a blast.
We enjoy doing this.
I love it.
Do you guys do this?
Do you have a bit of a cook-up?
Do you do a roast?
Do you do a barbecue?
I'd like to know.
I like doing it.
Yeah.
It's a lot of fun.
It is a lot of fun.
Especially when you've got a double-ended cooker like this.
Speaking of that, we need pineapple juice.
We do need pineapple juice.
And the reason you need pineapple juice, Graeme?
I'll tell you why right now.
Pineapple juice.
What's funny about pineapple juice, mate?
Nothing funny about it.
It's a great sauce.
Is it healthy for you?
Absolutely.
And I reckon every bloke out there should get amongst it.
And the best bit is, Graeme Cahill, is once you've got rid of the juice, you have the old, you have the rings,
and we can eat that fantastic snack for tomorrow.
And we're going to put some tomato paste in there.
Sure.
Jocko drinks a lot of pineapple juice.
He does.
He loves it.
So you're sure it's good for you.
It's healthy.
It's good for you.
Now, give that a taste.
Give that a little...
We'll try this one, yeah?
Yeah, give it a little taste.
Yeah, let's have a go.
Look at that.
Oh, and there's a sweetness at the start and a little kick at the end.
That's what you want.
Oh, boy.
Holy...
Oh, yes.
That's what we want.
I've got some radishes.
We can cut them up later.
I'll let that there.
Holy balls.
We've got some tortillas.
It's all going to happen real quick from here on in.
So it's going to be all hands on deck.
Grab said tortilla.
Yes.
And give that a little soak.
In there?
Correct.
Are you sure?
Like that.
Just whack him in.
So once that's dipped in...
Yes.
Nice and hot.
Whack it on there.
This could go either way.
I've never done this before.
Just a little...
Here we go.
Yeah, whack that on.
Yeah, I like that sound.
Get through two at a time.
Okay, copy that.
Give me another one.
What's the next plan here?
Well, I haven't really got this far through.
So you're supposed to get all them into that and the rest of that goes into there.
I get it.
But now I'm in a sticky situation because I only put two on there.
No, let's just give this a bit of a toast and see what happens.
So we'll toast one side.
We'll make a pile of those.
Yep.
We'll do the rest.
And then you fold it over.
Bingo.
Oh, that is looking...
That's the bomb.
And then you know what we're doing.
Yeah, then we'll fold.
And then cheese.
Cheese, cheese, cheese.
You've got mozzarella cheese to put on here.
Yep.
And I really suggest you try this one out at home.
Like a bit of cheese on that.
Now I'm going to fold this bugger over.
All right, here we go.
So like I said, this is all hands on deck.
Oh, look at that colour.
That's what we're talking about.
That's what we were talking about earlier.
That's what we want.
Look at that colour.
It really is sloppy.
Wow.
Look at that colour.
Holy.
We're doing it.
This is it.
We're literally doing it.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
All right.
We can make a little fast food restaurant.
Street food, baby.
We can do it.
We can get like an 80 series, chop it, put a little cafe on the back.
Hey.
We can take this.
That's like this one.
We can do it.
100%.
Holy.
This is going to be a...
You can see my training in...
Ah!
Hot!
That's how I got that.
Ah!
It's tricky to make.
That's why street food...
You know.
It's a lot going on.
There's a heck of a lot going on.
You should really support your local street foods.
I agree.
Next time you're in SoCal, get down and yeah, say g'day to my Mexican friends.
I just flipped that.
Did you?
Yeah.
Oh my goodness.
There's so much KFM.
It's coming together real good.
We've got some beautiful little tortillas there.
Or should we say chili beef tacos.
Guys, come in.
Come in.
Grab one of these.
Be careful.
They're going to be hot.
How good's that, eh?
Delicious.
It's floppy.
It's messy.
But it tastes good.
Yum yum.
And they're nice and hot.
You need welder's fingers for this.
Rob would be doing alright, I reckon.
I tell you what, that's where the pineapple juice comes in for me.
It really does.
Really does.
You get that little sweet tang.
It does, yeah.
I reckon.
Don't even bother cleaning your hands.
Have round two.
Let's go again.
Let's do it.
A great little feed to wrap up what has been a wild day in the Glasshouse Mountains.
Tomorrow, we step it up a notch.
Just because you're tough wheeling doesn't mean you can't do it in style.
And I reckon our convoy has got the camping side of things absolutely nail.
Including, you guessed it, a microwave on Steve's Red Ark set up.
Now that's living.
If the microwave isn't enough, well, Steve's also got the induction up and running.
Holy dooley, mate.
Have a go at this, hey?
Pretty insane.
I saw Steve cooking on his microwave this morning.
A microwave?
He's got power on tap.
I think the plan's pretty simple, mate.
Get this into us, pack up, and tracks are about ten minutes from here.
That's the beauty of it all.
A bit of a rain this morning, but I don't think that's going to do anything out there.
With breakfast in the belly and the rigs packed up,
sadly, it's time to say goodbye to our mate, Jesse, who's got somewhere better to be.
Apparently.
Who knows where that could be?
Alright, big day on the tracks, Glasshouse.
You can't go too wrong around here.
Lots of tough tracks.
Jesse's neck of the woods.
You're going to be on your own today, mate.
You've had enough of us.
Yep, one day is enough with you two old blokes.
You're a little bit too slow for me.
I've got a shoot off, got some missions to fix.
You do.
I knew this, mate.
I knew you were busy today.
But that's okay.
I'm going to take the rain today.
After some of those drives yesterday, you don't even need me, mate.
You'll be fine.
You know what?
You do bring out my inner Glasshouse confidence, though.
I love it.
You got any ideas for us?
Ah, you know your way around out there pretty well, you know?
Just follow your nose.
All right.
We'll choose something spicy.
Yeah, bloody hard anyway.
Awesome, mate.
See you next time.
Thanks again, Jess.
See you, bud.
See you around, like we were told.
And with that, we're off to our next adventure for the day in what could be called the mecca
of four-wheel driving in Australia, the Glasshouse Mountains.
How good's this, mate?
A beautiful sunny day in the Glasshouse.
And you know, you just know we're going to do some tough tracks today.
Stunning little day today.
Going to be mild weather.
Nice for the Glasshouse.
All right.
I'll lead on.
The track we're tackling today starts by running along the power lines.
This doesn't look right.
And the entrance to it is a good couple of old-fashioned Glasshouse mud holes.
That's disgusting.
I'm going to spool her up and punch it off the edge.
That's how you do that, kids.
No regrets.
I'm going to get me shiny wheels dirty.
Rob, we can't let you leave the Glasshouse without going in some of its infamous mud.
Oh, inside.
Yes.
With the rest of the convoy now a little bit muddier,
we make it to the first challenge.
What do they call this?
Well, Jesse calls this Locker Lane.
He said, righto, here's a track for you.
All right, copy.
Nice little one called Locker Lane.
And typical Jesse, I was just thinking, okay, I've got lockers.
I like strolling in laneways.
This should be pretty easy, right?
He did actually say to me, he said, some of yous will drive it.
Some may die.
Some of yous will drive it.
Jesse.
Not everyone.
You've spent countless hours researching.
You've done a lot of the work yourself, and I take my hat off to you.
You've built a car that is probably one of the most capable in Australia.
Oh, that's a lie.
This is your turn to shine, my friend.
Let's put that bad boy to the test.
This is, I'm very nervous.
Ah, good.
Get it moving.
Right at the get-go.
Oh, he's inspiring lots of confidence for me.
It's not a great start.
Let's hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
Man, it's steeper when you're behind the wheel of a vehicle, let me tell you.
Gee, that doesn't feel good.
This is a big step, even for a twin-lock vehicle on big tyres.
Yeah, his right's in that divot.
You need to be over here because you go up this big tree root.
Ah.
With the front up, I give it a bit of right pedal.
Oh, there's a big bang.
What was that bang?
I think he's done a CV or a hump.
Ah.
Calm down pretty hard, I think.
I was hoping it would just drive the back up.
So, it's definitely not spinning that front one.
Which one?
This one here.
Yeah, that's the hub that normally goes.
I've broken that one every time I've done something silly.
That one, yeah.
Oh, just over.
Yeah, there.
That's where I want it to be.
After further inspection, it is a hub, which is usually an easy fix, but there's one little problem.
Well, my plan was to quickly fix this hub and have another go at this hill,
but I've just realised after looking through my spares that I broke a hub on the last day in the US,
used all my spare hubs.
I've got none with me.
I only just got this back from America, so I'll be winching and trying to find a hub locally, I reckon.
If there's a place you want to be missing spare parts, well, it is a glassy, as help isn't usually too far away.
But first, we need to winch this now three-wheel drive dirty 30 off the tracks.
There you go, mate.
If Sean made it look tricky, I don't know how this is going to turn out.
Okay, first big challenge I've got is Sean has spat a massive boulder out.
Sometimes you've just got to give it a bit of bunty.
That's the bunty I'm talking about.
Not where I want it to be.
I don't think I'm going to make it, but I'm going to spool it and give it a bop.
Oh, it's so close.
Now I'm really annoyed.
That hole sucks.
In the interest of me actually finishing this track this time, it's out with the Runva.
My concern is now that I've lost my momento, when I start after I get here, I'm going to spin.
Is it going to tip me on my lid?
This is going to be fast and furious.
In I want more.
Yeah, the boys. Yeah, the girls.
That's it. That's it.
Watch out for the sticks, boys.
Yes.
All right, Rob. We're ready when you are, mate.
I reckon he's going to do it easy, especially getting the front up with that approach angle.
Mark, let's turn him up and see how he goes.
Oh. Spectacular.
The Razzler front bar Rob is running means he's got great approach angle,
which means he can do spectacular things like this.
Yes.
That was that. That was that.
Wow.
That's how you should have driven it, John.
Yeah, exactly.
I didn't have enough hubs in my bank for that.
I didn't know whether to cheer or, yeah, scary.
I don't know if 79 would do anything that spectacular.
Whoa.
Not with that attitude, Az. Come on, mate. You've got it.
He's got it. He's got the rock.
Oh, dolly.
Oh.
I can't park here, mate.
I can't park here.
That 79 loves a wheel lift.
And the look on Az's face really tells a tale.
Don't park there. That's...
Graham drilled it for everyone, really.
Oh.
Look at the Indian excavation work here.
Blame Graham.
Yeah, sure.
It may not seem like it from the outside,
but inside one of those 79s, on wild angles like that,
it's a whole lot more hectic.
See, the problem you've got now,
you've got a massive big flat rock right here.
You're not going to get up that.
No, I don't.
I feel like if I get up that, I'm going over.
I guess this is a bit of an example of where weight comes into play.
Big, heavy dog, that one.
And he's just having trouble getting out of this hole here.
And because all of the weight transfer,
he's talking, everything's coming up this way,
and it's going to go worse the further up he comes.
The chance of him falling over on his side over here is actually quite real.
So I'm going to try and bring him up here and follow my line up.
I think he'll either do it quite easily or he's going to scrabble in here.
It's because I've made a bit of a mess.
With a simple line adjustment and some keen spotting,
Az makes it look easy this time around.
Yeah!
That feels far.
Let's just go up all the way.
All the way.
Oh, that was close.
Just missed that tree.
Oh, man.
There was that much between that tree and a brand new canopy.
That much.
Heart rate, 119.
I'm not sure if that's healthy for a man of my age, and I'm not doing anything.
Let's see how this goes.
Been an interesting little hill.
Just getting up through here.
Getting up there is quite tricky.
But I reckon the 200 will do that quite easy.
It's big and heavy.
It'll rear maybe a tyre.
That's good, positive thinking, mate.
But I do recall what happened yesterday.
You couldn't possibly make a CV on this hill.
I'm out.
I'm pretty sure Belle won't make that mistake again.
Easy.
It's like it's nothing.
Well driven.
I'm not at the top yet.
I don't know what those boys were mucking around with.
Made it look so hard.
It's quite easy.
It's a solid drive from Belle, which just leaves Steve in the white Lux.
I don't think your microwave's going to help you on this one, mate.
Yes!
We popped up the top and we're happy.
It'll be okay.
It's a good effort by all, and surprisingly, the only vehicle that came out worse was the Dirty 30.
You can see exactly what's happened.
It's what we suspected, I guess.
The engagement gears inside this hub have broken, both inner and outer.
That's the outer one, and also this inner one.
You can see it's kaput as well.
But not to worry.
Spare is on its way.
In fact, I can hear the vehicle bringing it out.
I'm pretty sure it's somewhere pretty close.
Holy!
And right on time, a couple of local legends arrive in style with the hub.
Come on, you boys.
Amazon delivery!
Turns out it wasn't a Hub A.
Nah, good.
We had to get here in two hours.
Otherwise, it was free.
Nice to meet you.
Yeah, nice to meet you.
That's exactly what I need.
I reckon I'll get that on pretty quick, and we can go wheeling again.
Thanks, yeah.
Yeah, try and keep up, mate.
Try and keep up.
I've had a thought.
You ever driven a D-MAX?
It's a straight swap.
Not from today, I'm not.
Wow.
Also exhilarating.
Hand me that helmet.
Always change it and jump in.
You don't have to ask me twice.
Sorry, Shawno.
Here we go.
Hub is now locked.
Look at that.
Like a brand new one.
Ready to go.
Perfect timing, mate.
I might just need to go and change my pants.
I can hear that through the wood.
I'm a changed man.
I bet you are, mate.
That is unbelievable.
You're actually a man now.
It's great to see.
I don't know that I am, actually.
A lot of things are tucked up inside, mate.
We just did a track down there that would take us, I'm not even joking, I don't know,
we did it in five minutes.
It'd take you an hour in a car.
Yeah, no doubt.
I've got zero doubt on that.
I'm going to put it out there.
Okay.
What do you reckon?
I've just got myself back in the game.
I can't finish the glassy like this.
One more no more.
Beer?
No, one more track.
100%.
Tell you what, if we do one more no more track, I'll buy one more no more round of beers.
I like the sound of this, mate.
It's going good already.
Follow me, mate.
Follow you.
All right.
Can I borrow that thing again?
That was really fun.
A one more no more track and it's getting late in the day, so it looks like we might be
heading into a night run.
Well, how's this?
Turning into a night run and I love a good night run.
It takes me back to my youth when I first started four-wheel drive.
You'd knock off work on a Friday, straight to the tracks at night.
I'll tell you what, even if you'd driven the tracks a million times at night, they all
look different and even more fun if you ask me.
Now, I've got a full range of steady lights.
In fact, everybody in the whole convoy is running steady lights and you'll notice they've
all got different styles of lights.
That's because they make so many different types.
They'll suit your style no matter what.
For me, though, I like the big spotties up the front.
Of course, I've got some on the roof, but what I really like at night is the little
side light bars.
Now, they shine up the whole vehicle, so when we're out spotting, you can actually see what
you're looking at and especially if you've got the under-rock lights as well that Belle's
got on her B200, you can see underneath exactly where those tyres are and it really helps.
And you've got a little function as well.
You can change it to party mode when you get to camp, but I'll leave that to you guys.
Anyway, for us, it's a night run.
How good's this?
Righto.
First little hill, I'm going to give her a crack.
How good's a night run?
I don't know, Graham.
Give her a crack, mate.
Right at the top.
Night runs are where your instincts really come into play.
These holes look way bigger in the car.
Everything is so much harder to navigate, but the crew are now well-seasoned after a
few days out here and all managed the first climb very nicely.
I reckon it looks more hectic.
It's not too bad.
Yeah, that was so much fun.
Last big challenge of the evening.
Sean's taking a bit of redemption here.
Hopefully he can get up this big step without breaking a heart.
Fingers crossed, because I'm not helping him change it.
Looks a lot bigger.
And we're up.
Just did it.
Bounced around a little bit, a little bit wide.
Slow and steady wins the race, I think.
Yeah, he gets more confidence at night, this bloke.
Even this one looks bigger.
There's a big rock there.
Where's he going?
There you go.
He redeemed himself.
We go where Sean went up, the nice steep bit.
So I'm not outdone by a Land Cruiser.
They're just at home in the glass of these things.
Yeah.
A little bit of TV bop action at the finish of the night.
It'll be easy, they say.
No worries, it'll be easy.
It's easy.
Easy peasy.
Everything looks twice as big in the dark.
Oh, close.
What was that?
You're in that undercut bit, unfortunately.
Keep going.
I think you want to be over the fraco.
I thought you said it would be easy.
It's a bit harder than we thought.
That's enough.
That's it.
Nah, you got it.
I'm just bellying out.
Yeah, because you're in a hole here and a hole there.
As you're a brave man taking that Mitt 79 with a touring set-up up through these tracks,
you've got this one.
Yeah!
Yes!
Yeah, buddy!
That's the last.
Oh, man.
That was sick.
I did not think I was getting up.
A little bit of confidence with the crowd out there, eh?
How many alternators is she running?
Belle's up next, and if there's one thing we can be sure of,
it's that this rock step is going to be lit up very well.
That looks sick!
Oh, that looks like a...
Maybe not.
You maybe want to come this way a fraco.
Go back.
Oh, there's so much crunching going on in here.
Come over this way a fraco.
Yep.
Keep it coming.
That's it.
A little bit more, a little bit more, a little bit more, a little bit more, a little bit more, a little bit more.
Woohoo!
Yeah!
Woohoo!
Yeah!
Made me run.
There's a lot of bagging and crashing, but he's great with that.
That's a good drive.
The pub is waiting.
These guys are all a little bit undecided as to which way you should go.
Definitely that one.
I'm thinking, this is pub line, that one there is camp line.
Depends what you want to do.
Fix a CV and a tail shaft.
They're trying to bully me into taking a dodgy line.
Yeah, he chose pub line.
You know I did.
Yeah, my boy.
Perfect.
Whoa!
Chicken palmy line.
I've never seen someone so excited to get in the pub.
Yeah, buddy!
Well done.
Steve with the pub line.
He's made the choice for everyone.
I heard it's the palmy line.
It is the palmy line.
Speaking of palmy's, Woodford, what do you reckon?
Mate, Woodford pub it is.
You know what though, can I just say, I've had my share of breakages this trip.
You haven't.
I was ruled out for quite a bit longer than yourself.
However, today, I've had an absolute blast.
You guys?
This whole trip's been great.
Has been fantastic, hasn't it?
It's been fantastic.
But I reckon we'll top it off when we get down to the Woodford.
Come on, race ya!
Let's go!
Cheers, kids.
Cheers, fellas.
Cheers, big ears.
Here's to the glass house.
Glass house, me arms turned on as per usual.
Been a long time since I've wheeled hard tracks, mate.
You might have been able to tell right at the beginning.
I got back into it today, though.
I know, I know.
It was a lot of fun.
We're off on an ape side.
You know, we had from the Zouk through to pretty capable rigs.
Yeah.
GQZ.
Big GQZ.
Absolutely loved it.
What a weapon, hey?
All the way down to the D-Max.
And I've had the time of my life, man.
I've absolutely thoroughly enjoyed it.
That is what it's all about.
It is.
You come to the glass house, you wheel with your mates.
You're all different vehicles.
Yep.
It's about having fun.
And fun have we had?
Yes, we have.
We're all out here having a blast.
I think for you folks at home, you're watching, your mates aren't coming out wheeling with
you because the collie ain't ready, the BT50's not quite ready.
They're a bit worried about taking on some tough tracks.
There's always a beeline.
There's a beeline.
You've got a winch, doesn't matter.
Just get out there and enjoy it.
You need the name of all the good beelines in the glass house.
Ask me.
I'll tell you every single one of them.
No, I'm joking.
I'm joking.
You drove that D-Max up some spicy lines.
Speaking of spicy, those tacos.
Oh, yeah.
What you guys didn't see behind the scenes was that the action started about three in
the morning.
There was a lot of movement through camp.
I can see there's a lot of shadows.
A lot of noise.
And I reckon that's what it's all about.
Having fun.
It is exactly true.
Cheers, guys.
Exactly true.
Catch us next time.
Whereabouts, mate?
All the ride 24-7, all the wood for the hotel.
We'll be here for a little while.
