Guangzhou FC of the Korea Republic head to China to take on Shandong Taishan FC
in the knowledge that a win here today would see them book their ticket to the round of 16.
The home side are looking to bounce back after slumping to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Kawasaki
Frontalo on matchday six, so they'll need to up their performance levels against a strong side
today. Shandong have the firepower up front to test the visitors' defense today. Zheka,
Valery Kashvili and Klaizan, who captains the side, have five of the nine goals scored so far
between them. If they get the result today, they'll have to find a way of shutting down Albania
midfielder Jazi Asani, who's been in blistering form for the Korea side in their debut season in
the AFC. Seven goals for the number seven, and it's Shandong on the attack here. Klaizan sees
his effort come back off the post. Good pressure in the eighth minute from the home side as they
look for the breakthrough. They come again just past the quarter-hour mark. Zheka down the line,
he's able to brush off the attention to the defender here, Pyong Jong-su, all into the
middle. Klaizan is there, one touch and he drives it into the corner. One nil to the home side.
Absolutely brilliant from Zheka at the byline. Deadly from the Georgian.
Leaves the goalkeeper Kim Kyung-min with absolutely no chance. Shandong come again just past the
half-hour mark. More pressure, they've pinned back Gwangju here. Klaizan, lovely ball in,
that's dangerous and it finds its way into the corner. It's two nil. The goalkeeper came for it,
but can only watch as Zheka guides it into the corner. Comes off the defender as well,
but Zheka will claim it. Shandong, double their lead, practically right from the kickoff.
Gwangju with a good opportunity here. Lee Min-ji coming forwards, thinks about the shot,
takes a heavy deflection. It's up in the air and it's somehow found its way to the back of the net.
It takes a huge deflection off Shi Kei and it leaves the goalkeeper Wang Delei and number 11
Lu Yong looking at each other. It's a wild goal to concede. Still in the first half,
Shandong looking to re-establish that two-goal buffer. They might do it here as it's headed in.
The number 11 Lu Yang is in the mix of things again. The goalkeeper comes, doesn't get there
and Klaizan can nod it in for his third of the campaign. They re-establish their two-goal
advantage right before halftime. An action-packed first half comes to a close. Shandong, Taishan,
good value for that two-goal lead. Defenses on top in the second half. There's an opportunity here.
Wang Je-hwan's doing really well. Cuts the ball back. There's Haish in the middle and the Brazilian
forward can't hit the target on his weaker foot. Good work from the substitute down the flank to
set up the chance. Right at the death, Shandong have an opportunity to make it an emphatic win here.
Three against three with a player on the right-hand side. Klaizan takes the shot.
The goalkeeper gets down well to save it and Shandong see out the remainder of the game without
too much trouble. They seize all three points which gives them a big boost up the table onto
10 points ahead of the next game away at Busan. Wang Ju will have to refocus as they look to get
the job done against Thailand's Buriram United next time in the AFC Champions League elite.
