What's going on everybody? Welcome back to MIRON TV. My name is MIRON Kirakosian,
and today we have a new popping tutorial with Breeze Lee from VersaStyle Dance Company.
We're focusing on a step called the Neck-o-Flex. Now the Neck-o-Flex is a transitional move that
you use when you want to change direction, but note a lot of poppers use this in their routine
in general. Also last week we worked on a step called the Walkout. If you missed that I will
have a link to that tutorial in the description box. Make sure to check that out. Also keep in
mind once you learn these steps, film yourself. Hashtag MIRON TV and we will check it out and
show you some love. Now before we get started, if this is your first time on the channel and you
have not subscribed, make sure to subscribe. Hit that bell to get notified every single time we
release a new video. Also leave your comments in the comment box. Let us know what you thought of
this tutorial and what else you would like to learn on this channel. Let's get started.
What's up everybody? My name is Breeze Lee, co-founder and artistic director of VersaStyle
Dance Company. I want to thank MIRON TV for having me out today. As you can see the logo
is reversed behind me because we have the video mirrored for you guys. Today we're going to work
on the Neck-o-Flex. Let's get started. Okay, working on the Neck-o-Flex. So with this movement,
we like to think of it as a little bit more of like we're isolating our body now. We're actually
going to try to make it more 3D like. This was a movement that was done back in the 1970s and
again it was I think to be considered more of a transitional move when you wanted to face a
different direction or if you just wanted to make your style look more illusion at the time. Yeah,
you will see a lot of freestyle poppers and a lot of freestyle dancers just use this move in
general. Okay, and again it's called the Neck-o-Flex. So what you want to do is you want to
stand feet together but maybe not too close, not too far apart, just maybe your shoulder width.
I like to make it really nice and in detail because I want to show all the isolations in
my body. What I'm going to do is I'm going to have the left side of my chin touch my left shoulder.
Boom. Yeah, just like that. Ready? Five, six, seven, and one. So notice I kind of had like an
and boom to land, right? I don't want to just go, huh. You can, but that's considered more
mechanical. Remember we're doing a dance. Yeah, so you want to go and one. At the same time when
you do that you want to lift up your elbows and you want to pop out your left heel. You want to go
one. All right, five, six, seven, and one. Again, five, six, seven, and one. From here what you're
going to do is you're going to step left, right, but you're going to turn at the same time facing
the back. You're going to go boom, boom. Now notice before you do it, notice when I come from here
I have my chin touching my shoulder. When I shift it, now the right side of my chin is going to
touch my right shoulder. It's one of these y'all. Yeah, so you want to go from here. Boom, and you
want to stay where your head didn't move. So it just looked like your body was catching up to
your head. Yeah, five, six, seven, and one, two. You're going to repeat it. You're going to go
three, four, and return back to the front, but keep your head looking to the right. Yeah, five, six,
seven, and one, two, three, four. Now from what I learned from my teachers, Sugar Pop,
the Electric Boogaloos, when you do a head roll, this is kind of like a head roll. You don't,
like I said, you don't want to just go shift it from the side. You want to have like this loop
going. So again, you might hear the mic go, but at the same time I'm trying to have my chin graze
against my chest so it can land on my shoulder. I don't want to just go, huh, huh, huh, huh. I
want to go, and one, two, three, four. Yeah, five, just slower, five, six, seven, and one,
two, three, four. Okay, now you're wondering, all right, when does the pop come in? The pop
comes in on every count. You pop on the one and the two, aka the boom and the clap in the music,
yeah? So you want to go, and pop, pop, pop, pop, yeah? A lot of you might have questions like,
hey, which leg do I pop? You pop whichever leg has the weight on it. So for me, I'm going to go
pop, which means this leg, my right leg, had the weight on it. So I'm going to pop my right leg,
and I'm going to pop the chest and the arms at the same time. Boom. Maybe from here I might
pop my left leg, boom, at the same time as I land. I'm going to do it again, pop, pop, okay?
You can pick each side of the leg you want. It doesn't matter for me, that's what made sense to
me, but if it makes sense to you to pop the right leg always, hey, by all means, feel free to do it.
As long as we see you pop the leg, the chest, and the arms, you're good to go, okay? Let's go slowly
again. 5, 6, 7, and 1, 2, 3, 4, okay? I'm going to do double counts now. 5, 6, 7, and 1, 2, 3,
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, yeah? 5, 6, 7, and boom, pop, boom, pop, boom, pop, boom, pop. Now remember,
I want to aim for my chin to touch my shoulder. I want to aim for those elbows to go high.
I really want to have this body going, isolating, boom, and keeping that here. I don't want to kind
of drift off and have my head face this. I want you to see the other side of the profile of my
face, yeah? 5, 6, 7, double time, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Now, like I mentioned in the last tutorial,
you can have the freedom to open up your arms. They can be here. It's totally up to you. Just
have those elbows raised up so it shows more of a 3D Rubik's Cube like, okay? 5, 6, 7, and boom,
pop, and pop, boom, pop, and pop. One more time. 5, 6, 7, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. I'm going to
go slow one more time because I realize maybe the footwork might get a little bit complicated.
From here, left heel goes up, yeah? It's just the footwork. Then I'm going to step, step, left,
right, boom, boom. Left heel goes up, boom, step, step, boom, yeah? One more time just like that.
5, 6, 7, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Let's add the arms. 5, 6, 7, and boom, and pop, pop, boom,
and pop, okay? Let's do double time and then we'll do single counts. 5, 6, 7, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
7, and single counts. Ready? 5, 6, 7, and boom, pop, boom, pop. Again, if that was too fast,
stick to double counts. By all means, you can always chill a night and have a nice time
doing double counts. Once you feel you got the rhythm, speed it up to single counts.
One more time. Ready? 5, 6, 7, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, single count, boom, pop, boom, pop.
All right. Let's try it with music, y'all. Here we go. All right, y'all. We're going to do double
counts, yeah, two counts, and then single count, okay? I will take a break after the double count.
Here we go. Ready? 5, 6, 5, 6, 7, and 1 more time. Single counts. Ready? Here we go. Ready?
5, 6, 7, and boom. Yeah. One more time. Ready? Single counts. 5, 6, 7, and boom.
Nice, y'all. Good job. Good job. All right, y'all. Thank you again for MIRON TV for having me out
today. Greatly appreciate that I'm able to share with you guys again. This was the Neckle Flex.
Please take your time. I think with this one, you really want to see where your body's going,
where it's landing. Body awareness is really, really important when it comes to street dancing,
okay? So again, find out the angles. Find out the details in your movement. I'm going to look
different from you. You're going to look different from that person and that person, and that's okay.
As long as you are landing on beat with the pop and as long as you are doing your best to just
isolate the movement, whether it's just the neck and then the body or the lower body,
you're doing your part, okay? Please be mindful that this is a transitional move.
It makes you maybe want to face somewhere else. Maybe you don't have to go all the way around.
Maybe you just want to go, boom, and then face the side. That's fine, too. It's still considered a
Neckle Flex, okay, or a variation. So have fun with this. I always encourage and I always suggest
to maybe explore after you get the foundational movement. If you have any questions, comments,
thoughts, please write them down in the comments section. I'll be happy to answer them,
and thank you again. I'll see you on the next one, y'all. Peace.
