Altra is a Belgian software company
and we focus on creating applications for IoT.
We can control hardware with applications
that we build such as a cooker hood, smart bike,
smart home systems or anything that is physical.
We are with 30 people in total and we have 18
developers that create the software
and they all use MacBook Pros because we sometimes have to
create applications for iOS as well.
We use parallel software because sometimes
Our developers need a Windows environment, because we have
a legacy .NET framework application that we still have to maintain.
In the past, we've also looked at VMware Fusion.
However, we found that to be a lot less performant than Parallels,
especially on Apple Silicon chips.
Later, we also checked out Windows 365. However,
we found that to be five times more expensive than Parallels is.
It's also reassuring that Parallels
is the only Microsoft-certified solution in this field.
find that Parallels is very easy to install.
When onboarding a new developer
we just give them the license key
and they can install it on their own, no
further instructions are required. Performance is really great, it just
feels like you're working on a native
Windows machine. Additionally you get the
full Windows experience.
Moreover using the shared folder feature we can just
use our macOS documents inside of Windows.
We recommend Parallels Desktop
for a developer if you occasionally need
a Windows environment on a Mac because
it's really easy to install,
it's high performance and it's also very affordable.
