This video is brought to you by Squarespace. We have just boarded the most luxurious and expensive
train here in Switzerland. Let's see if the Glacier Express is worth it. A journey that
takes us from St. Moritz all the way to the Meadowhall. I think this is going to be a pretty
epic train journey. Hey everyone, we're Steve and Jess and Hunter, a little Australian family who've
just had an incredible trip in Switzerland, with a big highlight being the $26 Bonita Express train
that we caught from Italy into the country. But before we said our goodbyes to Switzerland,
we just had to see what all the fuss was about traveling on the most expensive Swiss train,
the Glacier Express. I don't even want to tell you guys how expensive that was.
Good morning from Switzerland, everybody. We've just woken up here in St. Moritz. It is a cloudy
day, but we can still see the epic mountains right in front of us. What a beautiful way to
start our day because we have an epic, epic journey today. So St. Moritz is actually only
halfway to where we need to go, which means today we're actually jumping on another train.
So our eight hour train expedition through the Swiss Alps starts right here in St. Moritz
at the train station. There it is. I'm so excited to go on this train. So getting tickets to come
on the Glacier Express was a little bit complicated. Once we checked in and settled in,
I'll let you guys know what we did and how we got half price off this train because
it's definitely one of the most expensive trains here in Switzerland. This has got to be one of
the most beautiful train stations. Just waiting for our train to arrive. I'm looking at a huge
mountain. Are you excited? Yes! Yay! Here it is. Second class looks nice. I thought that was where
we were sitting. I've always wanted to do this train ride. So excited. It's about eight hours
and 20 minutes for us to get to Zermatt. We came from Italy on the Bernina Express and that was
one of the most beautiful train rides we've ever done. And it only cost us $26. The Glacier Express
cost us a lot more than $26. So it'll be interesting to see if we have a better experience. See you
later, St. Moritz. Alrighty, everybody. Welcome to our seats. This is where we're going to be
relaxing for the next eight hours. So on board, there are two configurations. It's a four by two.
So if you're with some friends, you can book the four. Or if you're just like us, we book the two.
Whether you pick the two or the four, you're going to have a comfortable trip anyway. When you think
of train travel, you think of just like the ones in the city. Super plastic, super uncomfortable.
But these have a headrest. You're going to be very comfortable on this journey. If you guys are
traveling with as much luggage as we are, don't worry. They got bagged luggage. Much more storage
here than we found on the Bernina. Now on each of your seats, you're going to have these huge tables
for a very good reason. Eight hours. You're probably going to get a little bit hungry. So
we've ordered, hear me out, a four course meal that's going to slowly come out over this journey.
I didn't know this. There is a Glacier Express Panorama Bar in the middle of the train. It says
go and enjoy refreshing drinks or tasty snacks. This is a bar on the train. Did you know this?
No, I didn't know this at all. You have to go check that out. And we're off.
So the Glacier Express is one of the grandest train journeys here in Europe. Taking guests
like ourselves inside panoramic carriages through one of the most stunning places in Europe,
the Swiss Alps. And it is also one of the slowest express trains in the world. We're
going to do about 291 kilometers in eight hours. I feel like train travel is so easy. I woke up,
what was it? 15 minutes walk to the train station, jump on the train. You're headed
to your destination. Don't mind me that I have notes because it's a little bit complicated with
all the numbers to let you guys know how to save money on this trip. First of all, you have to
reserve your seat, which is 49 Swiss francs. Now we did this three months ago. We set an alarm and
I kid you not, I think we waited a few hours. We went out and most of the train was already booked.
So if you want to do this, book three months in advance, at least you get a nice seat. So then
the train ticket itself is about 268 Swiss franc. Now your reservation fee doesn't come off that.
You pay on top of that. But to be honest, you are covering eight hours on this train and it's
a lot more luxurious. And when we see the food, I anticipate it to be a lot fancier.
Okay. While they're available, we may have just taken over six seats on this train.
Hoping no one jumps on. I think my favorite thing about this train is that the windows,
they don't just stop at the wall. They continue up onto the roof. So you get the most amazing
panoramic views. May as well have a little look in the menu. I know we're on the Bonita express.
The menu consisted of what? Coffee, chips and a cheese on the chocolate. But this like, it
looks like it's full on meals on this train. It's got like a full on curry.
Can we please get two hot chocolates? Give it a good stir. Are we ready?
Start the trip off right with a nice hot choccy. Is it good? I think Hunter agrees. Is it good?
Do you want a sip? Oh, you're going to eat it with a spoon. All right. Things are going to
get messy here. I already know it. So Hunter may or may not be taking her nap right now
inside a closet. The pram fit in there, got the locks on. I feel like the train's
kind of rocking out of sleep. You know something exciting is about to happen when they start
placing these on your table. Things are starting to get fancy. Okay. Things got even fancier.
Fancier and fancier.
Every now and then you hear a little chime and that means that you need to
plug in your headphones and it's going to tell you information about the area.
Just quickly hopping off of the train. We've just arrived in Coor. Looking at the scenery,
probably thinking Stephen, this looks like a very normal town. Well, a couple of reasons. One,
this is where the Bonita express ends. So if you watched our other video,
wanted to see the rest of the journey, there you go. Now going forward, it's pure
glacier express only. And the city of Coor, this is actually the oldest city
in Switzerland. I better jump back on. I think it's going to arrive soon.
It actually said choo choo. Thank you. A little bit abroad. Is that how you say it?
Cheers. Salad cheers. First course of four.
Would you like some bread? Oh, extra. Still got a hot chocolate all over herself.
Yes, that's great. Thank you. So cool. It's not just like aeroplane food. They have a full on
kitchen in the train. They're cooking it all fresh in big bowls and then coming out and serving it.
Oh, top up. Thank you. Let's see what she thinks. Oh, thank you. Is it good? Yeah.
Try the curry. It's like a tomato. Do you want to try? You want the water?
I'll put it here. She woke up at the perfect time. I want to try one of your potatoes again.
That's so good. Thanks, Steve. Look at this. It might be apricot cake. It's so good.
It's beautiful. I love how they let you get out. Have a look. Come on, monster. Let's go.
How much does doing this in the summer make you want to come back and do it in the winter?
This would be so beautiful. Like imagine this all covered in snow.
Whoa. So we're now at our highest point,
2033 meters. And as you can see from that track, we are now going to be making our way down.
Spiders crawling down your back. Spiders crawling down your back.
I can't remember if there's something that school used to do and I've just made up my
own tune to it too. Spiders crawling down your back. Spiders crawling down your back.
Crack the yolk that runs down your back. Crack the yolk that runs down your back.
I think my favorite bit is when you're just going past these tiny towns and you're like,
one, who's living out here? I need to know your story.
Two, how do you even get out to these towns? It is in the middle of nowhere.
This is a sign that we've been on here for eight hours.
Oh no, they're not sticky enough. And just like that, all grand journeys need an epic conclusion
as we slowly pull up to the Matterhorn and our final destination of Zermatt.
We made it. Welcome to Zermatt. So we've got a three minute walk to the Airbnb. That was a long
day, but a beautiful day. And I definitely recommend it. Like it's pricey, but how amazing
is it? Oh, Switzerland is so beautiful. So I'm excited to see what's going to happen next.
You're not allowed cars in the city. So that's the only kind of vehicles around
are these little kind of electric, electric golf cart, taxi kind of thing.
This is cute. I like it. I found this on Airbnb. Matterhorn on the wall. Oh,
a little balcony for breakfast and coffee in the morning. Nice. So nice. I know we all need
some dinner, don't we? Do you think we should go get some dinner and take it to the playground?
Promised her a playground after she had to sit on the train for eight hours. So we need to pay her
back. I love the way she's holding it.
What is it? And Hunter, this is your first ever happy meal.
You don't even know what this is. What is it? It's like a Superman thing.
Is that cool? After such a long day, we thought, you know what, let's just get Maccas for dinner.
And so I feel like this is our first official, like eating out in Switzerland and I kind of
feel bad, but I was impressed. There are four different veggie burgers. You know,
you're in Switzerland when, uh, these three meals cost us 50 Australian dollars,
double what it costs at home. That's why I booked a lot of places with kitchens.
So this is a special night. Playground, Maccas, we did it. We're in Zermatt.
I just realized something. Oh my goodness. The Matterhorn is right there. Just chilling here,
looking at the Matterhorn. How crazy is that? Luckily you caught my reaction. I'm like
smashing down chippy. Here you go. Cheers, Steve. Welcome to Zermatt
and to a very amazing trip to Switzerland.

I just love how there's no cars here. So she can actually run around a bit. Okay, go get mommy.
So you cannot go to Zermatt without going and checking out the Matterhorn.
So today we're catching a funicular and we're going to finally see this guy up close.
Do you see anything yet? No, I can't see anything yet. But that's a decent tunnel. No.
Can you go inside? Here we go. And inside. Let's go. That's cool. It's like a little room. I didn't
expect that. Then we get to sit here and we're going to go all the way up. That's the people
flying. She kept seeing paragliders in the sky and now whenever she sees the sky, she's like,
the people flying? And what do you see? What's over here? What's that? It's a playground.
We're going to see cows. I think there might be sheep.
I'm just planning the day out. So I'm guessing we're going to the playground,
staying at the playground and ending the day at the, at the playground. Okay, done.
Didn't Google this place. Didn't know what to expect. Would love to have shown you guys the
view as we went 600 meters up, but this one was so different. They carved the funicular hole,
the tunnel just in the mountains. We did 600 meters in 12 minutes underground. Don't think
I've gone up a mountain underground before. Pretty cool. We made it to Senegal. What a
cool funicular. Beautiful reveal. So beautiful. Let's go check it out. Come on Hunter. Let's go
look at the playground. Okay. Now this is a good view of the Matterhorn. Look at this dude. We're
just surrounded by mountains. We are now out for a little 20 minute hike to a secluded restaurant.
And I feel like right now there's just nothing around. So you just can't imagine a restaurant
out here. And I've heard that they do very good fondue. So I think we're going to try our first
fondue here in Switzerland. So we're currently walking through a little town on the mountains.
There's maybe 20, 30 houses here. Wow. I don't know if they used to ski and ski out in the winter,
or if we could have booked this and stay tonight. You'll have full on views of the Matterhorn from
here. You want to smell them? They smell good. Hunter got a little distracted from the flowers.
This is such a beautiful time to go to Switzerland. All the wild flowers are out.
It is such beautiful weather. Hello Hunter. So warm. It does feel weird seeing these snow-capped
mountains and you're feeling so warm. Hunter, trying your first Toblerone in front of the
Matterhorn. It's a pretty cool spot. And cheers. I can't remember the last time I had a Toblerone.
It looks like a house. It's so good. Especially after that walk.
We've just arrived at the restaurant. And as you can see behind me, we have amazing
views of the Matterhorn. And they've just given us this. Reckon this is the menu? It could be,
as fun as it is. Yeah. Oh, here it is. Look. So it's got like the drinks here, the menu here.
So they're open at 1130 and I booked a table for 1130 because I assume this place is going to get
busy. Thank you. Thank you so much. Cheers, Steve. That view behind you. No, this is like
the best spot. Fondue has come. Got bread. And guess what's in here? We have got cheese.
All right. Try it. It's cheese. Yes. I've always wanted to have fondue in Switzerland. Let's see
how it holds up to all the other places we've had it. Oh, look at that cheese, Steve. Yum. Oh,
cheers. Fondue cheers. Wow. That cheese is amazing, Steve. And I love how they serve the bread. It is
delicious. Look at it. It's like crispy and soft in the middle. A little bit off. Steve,
this was a good idea. Definitely worth the trek out here.
And then we've got to blow on it because it's hot.
Winnie got a little buddy hyping you up to dip the cheese in.
I just had the best idea. Wait for it. They're going to kick us out.
BYO Toblerone. Don't let them see you. They're not looking.
One for you. No, you have it. I don't want chocolate and cheese.
Oh, that's the whole thing of fondue. Oh my gosh, yuck. Yum. You're really?
Chocolate and cheese. Is it actually good? Yeah. Do you want to try? Stop it. I'm scared.
Does it really taste good? Yum. I'm only putting a little bit of cheese. I'm scared.
No. No. Come on, man. View 10 out of 10. Experience 10 out of 10 because you have to catch a funicular,
go for a 20 minute hike. All adds up to it. Definitely recommend it. Food 10 out of 10.
That's definitely the tastiest fondue I've ever had. I don't even want to tell you guys how
expensive that was for some cheese and spread and a couple of drinks. Take a guess in the comments
and I'll respond to whoever comes to the closest. Just remember that Swiss tax.
Except for the fishies.
Go fishies. Go bloob bloobs.
Howdy everybody. Welcome to what they call Zermatt's beach, right up here in the Swiss
and that was the biggest effort to get back. I think I've walked off that fondue. So now I think
I'm going to go for a swim to cool off and I'm guessing glacier fed water. So I think it'll be
really cold or really refreshing. It's getting colder as I'm getting deeper, but I have to do it.
It's not every day you get to swim on a mountain. Oh, okay. You just got to go in. You just got to
go in. That's the Matterhorn just there. So when you take the funicular up to Senega,
there isn't just hikes, lakes and cool fondue restaurants you can go to. There are also a
bunch of gondolas taking you to all areas of the Alps and we're about to head up almost 3000
meters above sea level. And there is one gondola that takes you to the highest point.
There is one gondola that takes you to the highest point in the Swiss Alps. It's almost
4,000 meters above sea level, but they recommend that if they're under three that they shouldn't
go. Here we go. So I think under 3000 meters is still pretty high. Let's do this Hunter.
Look at the Matterhorn. This can never get over it. I feel like we're going to keep saying this.
So glad we bought the Swiss half off card because when we bought our tickets to come up here,
the funicular was half price, the gondola was half price
and just saving a penny anywhere you can in Switzerland is very good.
Can you see the ground? Are we kind of flying in the sky right now?
You're happy. She says she's so happy. We're here. It says welcome to Blauherd.
That's where we are, Blauherd. We're 2000, oh no, we're 2,500 meters above.
And that wraps up our incredible adventure on the Glacier Express.
And I have to say that we've only been in Zermatt for one day and I've definitely added it to my
list to return to in the winter and more days in the summer. This place is amazing. So if you guys
are new around here, please do hit subscribe. We'll see you guys next week with a brand new episode.
Bye.
