Hello everyone and welcome back to Fashion With Sotao's YouTube channel.
How are we all doing? And in today's tutorial, we are learning how to make a Chinese traditional
dress. It's also called a onfu. Okay, so one of the trending things in schools now is that
the agricultural day where children are asked to wear any traditional dress and this was what
led to me making this dress as far as I was like Chinese. Okay, so but then I feel there are no
more tutorials on it and that is the reason why I decided to put this up here. So if it's something
you like, you would like to learn, let's get going. So before we proceed to cutting our fabric,
we first draft the pattern on the paper. Okay, so the paper is actually on fold and for the length
of the dress, I want it to be 21 and a half because it's going to have a skirt. So I'll just
make a line over there which will serve as our aim line right now. We'll come to the edge of the
paper, the hopper part and then we are going to use the highest part of the body which is the
hip 24 inches. I divide it by four and then mark out nine inches over there. So I'm just going to
rule down that nine inches. Now I said I divided 24 by four that gave me seven and then I added
two extra inches to it. Okay, so I'm just going to connect the two points together like so. Do you
see? Now the next thing we are going to do now is find our sleeve extension. You know the sleeve is
caught together with the dress. So now to get that, I'm going to mark out 11 inches from the
line I have drawn out. Okay, so now we have that and then coming to the line area, the body line
area, I'm going to mark out six inches. So now I'm going to go ahead and use my barrel to make
some sketches like a connect. Now from the 11 inches sleeve extension, I went ahead and
measured 16 inches downward and that's where I'm traveling to. Well, I'm trying to make a sketch
to see how it will come out. I've not done it before. Okay, so I just want to be sure I have
before getting back to you as to what I did over the right. So I'm just going to take my
marker and then make a bold connect of the line to form the sleeve. Do you see? It's just like
S. Just like how we come puff out our sleeve or cap. So I'm just going to take my ruler now then
connect the two points which will serve as our arm opening. Okay, I didn't tell us what measurements
we have over there but over there we have 16 inches from the edge of the sleeve to the down
part. Okay, I'm trying to measure it for you to see. Okay, so that's 16 inches, right? So that's
for the sleeve length. For the dress length, we have 21 and a half. Do you see? Okay, I'm going
to label that to 21 and a half and then for the sleeve opening, like I said, I use six inches over
and then make like an S curve to connect the sleeve and that is that's to the
on full dress. I'll go ahead and cut the whole thing out. Guys, after cutting it, this is what
we have and I went ahead and cut out two of that but this is the front. I'll work on the front and
then show you the back afterwards. So over there for the neck width, I marked two and a half and
then for the depth, I marked 11 inches. Okay, so I'm just going to make a connect of the points
like so. I mean the neck width to the 11 inches, right? You know it's like a kimono and so I'm
going to make a cut out of that but let me make a bold connect of this point first. Okay, to show
the next thing. Next, I'm going to take my ruler like so and then from the edge, the M, I'm just
going to make a curve connect to the 11 inches points we add initially. I'm going to blend it
like so. Like I said, it's like a kimono jacket and this is what the front will look like but the
back will be a regular one. So I'll take my scissors now and cut the front out. The opening
at the front out. Now guys, our front is set. Like I said, I cut out two of it. Okay, so this is the
second one which we save as the back. For the back, we are not putting anything. Okay, so that's the
front and that's the front which we cut out and here is our back, right? So I'm just going to
open it for you to see how the placement will be. So this is our back. There is no cut on that
and then the front is what we have. I will just do the placement before we go ahead and cut our
fabric and this is what it will look like after. Do you see the sleeve? It's given already and it's
beautiful even on the paper. All I will just go ahead to do is to trim the back. Okay, so that
we'll have everything equal at the arm area and that is it. That is that to that. So guys, I've
gone ahead to cut it and this is the back. You can see the flowery fabric. Okay, so I've cut,
I've gone ahead to cut the back and then the front also. So right now, we'll set this aside
and proceed to the skirt part of the dress and sorry guys, I didn't remember to tell you of the
fabric I used. For the top, I made use of a crepe material, flowery crepe material and for the skirt
part, I'm making use of a duchess material. The same duchess is what I will use for the belt
but I'm making use of the off-white of it. Okay, now for the skirt, like I said, this dress is
actually for a four-year-old girl and so I'm going to fold to be folding this. I'm making use of one
and a half of this right so I'm going to be folding this into four like I did. Do you see because it's
going to have a single joining which will be at the back. Okay, so I folded it into four like so
and then I'm going to cut out the length that I want. Now, for the skirt length, I'm going to
mark out 24 inches. The actual length is 23 inches so I mark out 24 inches. I'll use one inch as the
aiming allowance and then I'm going to mark an extra one inch at the top which will serve as
the elastic casement. Okay, so that's why I'm marking another one inch over there so I'll go
ahead and then cut it out. This is our skirt. Our skirt is having a single joining at the back. Now,
we'll proceed back. We'll go back to our top. I'm going ahead to join the top as you can see
and that's the um you can see the sleeve area and then the the whole thing joins together. Do you
see and the cuff is really giving. So, now I want to cut the white band on the on the
jacket. Okay, I'm calling it top. I'm calling it jacket. So, what I'm going to do now is take my
place it on one side of the neck and then measure it around like you see me do. Okay,
so this is just for us to get the accurate band we are going to cut out. After measuring it all
around, I have 65 inches and I've also gone ahead to cut this band. Okay, so I have to cut four
pieces of it so that we can have the length and also I've gone ahead to cut the pink material.
So, the way I'm going to place it now is fold it into two like that is one inch I fold it into two
that is 0.5 and then I'll fold it and then place the other side on it like so and sew on it like
that. Okay, so after joining everything this is what the bands look like. So, what I'm going to
do now is now fix the band to it. Do you see what I'm talking about? Okay, so that is the joining
right you see the the pink the pink strap and then so now I'm going to find the midpoint
on the neck like so do you see the way I place my neck at the back I will just find the midpoint
and notch it also for the band right the place where it is joined you know two strap was joined
together I'll just find the midpoint and then join everything together like so and for the sleeve
also I've done the same thing I'll join the sleeve and then come back to show you how it
came out guys after joining everything this is the way we have it right do you see it's already
giving that Chinese look and I'm loving it already okay so that's the sleeve area you see
very beautiful okay so the next thing we are going to cut now is the belt area so just like
we have our tummy belt the wide area and then the tiny area okay so this will serve as the
wide area all I'm going to do I use a waste to cut it out and for the joint to to connect it I
mean to it's not going to be tight right so I'm going to use fake chrome to it but then I also
it's also going to have that effect that the hand and the band so now to fix it I'm just going to
fold it into half equal length and then join like we did to the sleeve and the band okay and this is
the belt on it okay so I'm just going to go ahead and join everything guys if you are still this
time watching this is a show for me that you are getting value like this video give us the thumbs
up comments if you have questions ask and so this is the outcome of the whole thing right that's the
and then the band area and um for the belts it's just like tummy belts I put fake chrome
that's the way she'll be wearing it and then afterwards this will be tied on it
right and we have also have this kit and this is our Chinese dress everything is given already
and I love the outcome I'm sure you love it too give this video a thumbs up like I said
