If you, like us, feel a deep connection to wild places, then the current Covid-19 restrictions which are limiting access to the outdoors, is hitting hard.
But maybe there is a silver lining? We hope that what will emerge over the coming weeks is a collective and rekindled realisation that we are all interconnected with nature. If we don’t take care of nature, then we can’t take care of ourselves.
Right now she is calling us to reconnect, but will we answer her call?

Who are we?
It's a big question.
I'm a human being,
living in a wonderful world,
an amazing planet,
with the gifts of the earth,
and we are also gifts of the earth.
So I need to be connected with the earth
and bring us back to ourselves
and who we are.
And it takes you out of your little humanity.
To remember the birthplace of me.
Man is not a special creature,
he's part of nature.
You've got to start looking at the plants,
you look at the insects.
Every single thing is interrelated.
We need those things in order to stay human.
We try and make the world fit what we think it should be
instead of trying to fit into the world.
Sometimes, you see, people are totally disconnected.
No link.
Then the psychologist is necessary,
the psychiatrist is necessary,
everybody is necessary to make this person.
Then they pet you, they pet you.
I think you benefit more when you're more in balance.
It's a connection with nature,
because we are nature.
We are from the earth.
We're made up of physical, material matter
and so is everything else around us.
A human being needs to get more involved,
descend into matter.
You know, we're all trying to ascend,
but we need to descend and become dirty, I suppose.
Modern people don't really want to get dirty.
No.
The earth has a wonderful rhythm.
And if you get yourself adjusted to that rhythm,
then you're in total feeling.
There's a balance in everything.
Just like there's a balance of the day and the night.
The sun comes up, the sun sets, the moon comes up.
It's all in balance.
Observing the times, the seasons,
freeing also gives a certain way of interaction.
It blooms, it grows,
the winter is rest, the earth is rest,
you yourself, you are internalizing, you are hibernating.
In spring, everything comes out.
So this is all in this balance.
Just like behind our physical, material matter,
there's a soul and a spirit,
and I think it's the same thing with the earth and nature.
Behind it, there's a soul and a spirit
and a creative force or energy,
and I feel I need to connect with that.
I can't help but say, you know, maybe this is the answer.
This is why we need wilderness.
Nature makes you think.
It makes you look into yourself,
and we need to look into ourselves.
I think it's essential that people spend time out there alone.
You can't believe what it does to you.
I'd all be in a bad mood
because I've got out of the wrong side of the bed.
I walk outside and then a bird flies past.
Within five minutes, I'm in another different world.
I've calmed down.
You're moving out of your bad mood.
That's the kind of thing that happens out here.
One place where you can get a sense of security in the rhythm of nature
is to spend time in nature.
Make time for yourself.
Go sit on a cliff.
Go sit by a tree.
Go sit by a pond.
And sit, and look, and listen.
Where you can be a little quieter.
Where you can think a few thoughts.
Give your body a chance to act as a body and as a spirit, as a unity.
Do what nature tells you to do.
And it happens so gracefully,
because nature will never come to you with a hammer and a baton
It's a steady process of many nuances.
In nature, I've found acceptance.
Where I'm surrounded by true love.
That's where I remember who I am.
There's a remembering.
I think that's why I go back to wilderness, is to remember.
Remember what it is to see.
Remember what it is to hear, and feel, and touch.
I remember to stop.
This is what it means to be human.
This is what it means to be alive.
This is what it means to exist.
And this is what's existing with me.
All of a sudden, the world is a bigger place.
I don't think words can do justice most of the time, actually.
It's just an experience.
And you know it's right.
It's returning home.
Real home.
Yeah.
