hey guys welcome to the channel in
today's video we will be talking about
Drosophila Luci Tanika which we actually
wanted so let's start the video okay so
let me tell you the stories of how I
actually won ten dress up for the new
satanica seeds so a couple days ago the
Instagram page W a carnivores which is
Western Australian carnivores they
listed a seed giveaway for reaching 1000
followers on Instagram so what they did
is that they made four packs of seeds
and in each pack there are ten seeds get
two away on instagram and two away on
Facebook so I'm scrolling through
Instagram you know I'm a plant page if
you want to go check it out - here is
where you can go it's the flat top
garden on Instagram and you know I was
just scrolling through in all plans and
then I noticed this post from W
carnivores and they said that they're
doing a giveaway and they're going to
draw someone you know from the comments
whoever comments he had to comment and
tag a friend and obviously follow them
and lock the picture so you know what
I'm not gonna I'm not even a try and
always a path for these giveaways and
you know I never won so I scroll past it
and then I was like you know what who
cares you know let me just try it anyway
so I went back up and I tapped in the
Kogi drawers who is a friend of mine on
Instagram and then I was the last
comment and that was like a day or so
before they drew all the names for
Instagram so the next the next day at
about 11 o'clock at night I get an
Instagram message from W carnivores he
won the season hazard I won something
for the first time ever I was so
surprised and I'm so obviously very very
happy and the issue is that I've never
grown
satanic that before I've only met up on
them and heard about them up never you
know done the research to look after
them so obviously we won those ten seeds
and he's gonna be personal to us
tomorrow so we'll get them sometime this
week or early next week and what I want
to do is I want to get their pot ready
because I don't want to get them and not
have anywhere to put them so in this
video we will be talking about the pots
and the soil and basically the general
care and starting you know to grow some
drosphila
loser tanika with you guys it's also
known as the dewy pan or the Portuguese
drosera
you see my hats Portugal and I'm
Portuguese so back home I guess not that
I was ready that there but anyway let's
start the video so I've started doing
some research online I went on to Kona
response talk and I went and looks at my
books they say that we nearly used a
terracotta pot and very airy free
draining soil because these plants do
not like to stay moist and they also do
not like root disturbances but I have
one issue here and that issue is that I
really don't like terracotta pots so
what I did is that I sent out a message
for help and got my cat helper to
deliver the message a couple of minutes
later and I got a reply saying okay
they'll help me out essentially what I
asked them was this do I have to use a
terracotta pot and what soil recipe do
you recommend because everyone has
different recommendations what he said
is that yeah you can use a plastic pot
but you need to make sure that you don't
over watch them because the terracotta
pots actually help to keep the soil
drier whereas the plastic pots
obviously hold in more plastic so I
thought to myself that's fine I will
just make sure I water them even less
than recommended and make extra sure
that there's less peat because Pete
holds water and we want less water so
I'm s so there's less pee
in the mix and I was also recommended to
use a mixture of perlite sand and peat
and this mixture is a ratio of 1 is to 1
is to 1/4 as I said it's a very very
little Pete and the last thing is that I
usually use a layer of sphagnum Moss at
the bottom of the pots to keep all the
soil in but if we use Fagin Moss this
will increase water attention within the
pot and that's not what we want so what
we're gonna do is that we're gonna go
out to the Home Depot
get it up get a suitable size pots and
then put some rocks in the bottom and
fill up this pot with the correct medium
many cigars it wasn't just that easier I
had to do more research on what size
pots they want because as I said if
these guys don't like new disturbances
so it's the back I can just pop them you
know in a small pots and then once
they've grown up a little bit smooth
them into bigger pots that we're doing
with all our other dresser oh we
actually have to plant these guys in
their final adult sized pot and that's
quite an issue because as I've said I've
never grown them before and I have no
idea how big they get and I have no idea
what size pots that they really would
like to have so I did some more googling
again and what I found out from this is
that they prefer terracotta pots between
the size of 16 centimeters to 30
centimeters so that's quite a big range
and again I was unsure what size to get
because I'm a person who really likes
details and accurate information and
measurements I'm not someone who really
works on some of this some of that
between this so once again I had to send
out another letter for help but you see
this time I didn't really get a reply
they just said I've been asked what is
fine but between 16 to 30 centimetres
and how's that that's what Google said
but I guess we'll just have to think
about it ourselves one thing that I
would really like to have in the future
is a big pot with a colony
of plans of each different species this
is something that are ready wish to have
will be so nice to have a really big
healthy colony of all the different
types of species in the world so
currently we have our small round pots
which we have all of our savings in it's
the cat and we have a really tall pot
for our tubers and now they're really
tall pots are excellent for the plants
they have ReadyTalk pots obviously and
that means that they can grow they're
very long rows which is really good
eye response but I'm getting 10
seeds and I don't think I can fit 10
outsized recipe limbs inside of just the
tall pot so I had to start thinking
about the future and the big colony size
pots that we will eventually get so this
caused me a little bit of stress because
I don't lack around pots having the
round pots for all of the seedlings is
okay because I can kind of say it's just
for now and I will you know sell these
pots with plants inside of them to other
people eventually and that's why I've
only got those big square ones with our
lack square pots because you know they
fit together nicely and they're
organized but you don't get big square
pots it's actually very difficult to
find them and I looked at the catalog of
the pot suppliers here in Australia we
have tons and tons of different pots but
they don't have any big square ones so
unfortunately just have to suck it up
and get a round pot so after I decided
to do that it was actually time to go
out and get a pot and make sure that I
got the right measurements as well so
one of the important things that I
wanted to ensure is that the particles
sits in a trailer many people say that
you should topwater it but the people
that asked both you said it's fun to use
the tray method and you know I'd rather
use a train method because I don't like
washing from the top because this will
cause the swell to splash everywhere and
with young little seedlings that's extra
critical to make sure that you don't
destroy them while they're young so we
got this pot and I measured it out and
as you can see it's about 17 and a half
centimeters which is just about seven
inches
so the base of our parts has to be at
least 17 centimeters so that it can fit
inside of this train which actually
comes from some mushrooms and now as I
said you need the base to be around 17
centimeters and the top 16 to 30
centimeters in diameter and now as I
said that's not a very accurate
measurement but we know how small we
want the base of the pot to be but as I
said I had to suck it up and we went out
to get this round pot and this is what I
came back with the base of this pot is
just wide enough to fit inside of our
train well you guys can see that but
it's at 17 centimeters which is just the
length of our train and the top of the
pot is about 19 and 1/2 centimeters so
these are the parts that we will be
using for all our colonies as you can
see it's quite long let me actually I'll
get you the tube pots and can see the
hearts so here is our colony pots and
here are our tube pots as you can see
they are literally the exact same heart
and this means that if you have a single
point in here the roots are the right
length and the adequate length to reach
the bottom here and the same thing here
these pots are nice and deep and it
means that all the roots can reach down
to the bottom of the pot and have a lot
of room to grow but as I said because
this one is obviously much wider than
the square part we can have many more
parts nion have a nice big colony so
eventually when we have lots of venus
flytraps and not the colony of different
rasa Shastra capensis big sarracenias
darlingtonia nice big Nepenthes they
were all be using this one size pot
which is basically the biggest size that
you need for your plants obviously you
can get a bigger pot it's your choice
but this is like the right size for
mature plants of almost all of the
different cannabis plants Genesis
got this part and now it's time to put
some rocks in the bottom to hold all the
soil in and we also need to mix up our
soil because obviously I haven't done
that either and lucky for us down here
at the end of our garden we have a nice
big patch of rocks that are perfect for
this part so what I'm doing is I'm
collecting only these white rocks
because I know that these ones are not
full of minerals about these dark ones
or these red ones which are covered in
that clay stuff if you wash out these
white ones there they stay care and I'm
pretty sure that they don't reach any
minerals but I'm sure you guys would
know more about that than me but anyway
if we need to put rocks at the bottom
and these are the same kind of rocks
that I'll be able to buy from the shops
anyway so let's start collecting those
this is the amount of products that we
will need I will size we don't need
rocks at the bottom and then when I take
too much but now I'm gonna go bring fees
under the water and shake them and get
all of the dust and whatever's on them
off of them
[Music]
[Music]
okay so there we go these are all of our
rocks now cleaned okay so what we've
gotcha is our mixing bucket our sand to
be washed together two parts of perlite
to the fun part and I will go get Pete
later so as I said we needed to be in
the ratio of 1 is to 1 is to 1/4 or 4 to
4 is to 1 which is also the same as 2 is
to 2 is to 1/2 so we have 2 parts of per
lap we're gonna take two parts of sand
and we'll get half a pot of peat and
we'll mix it all together so let's start
doing that
[Music]
[Music]
this is why it is important but you have
something at the bottom of your party to
prevent the sand from flying up because
this is what will happen
dangar so we had exactly two pots
remaining which is obviously great for
us so we've used up all of this sand and
I did buy silica sand quite a while back
up or two bags so if we need more we
have some but let me go get half a parts
of peat
so here's half a pot of peat let's put
it in and mix it all together so now the
reason why we have the peat at all is
simply just to help the roots get into
something and to have some kind of water
absorption
I'll also be absolutely no water in
there ever and if we will be always dry
so that's what we have that
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
so there we go guys we have our soil all
mixed up it looks very well draining
which is perfect for these guys so next
what we need to do is we need a space
out of rocks and put the soil in okay
and here we go guys yeah we have a pot
and what I want to do is I want to push
like I said all the stones to the side
and then put some soil in the middle so
that we can really just keep the stones
to the sides and keep them on the holes
and you don't need him in the middle as
I said let's just make this but actually
I'm just going to do this kind of like
one by one just just to cover up the
holes you know just to make sure the
holes are entirely covered up
[Music]
okay so now the holes are basically
covered we know that the gaps are like
basically properly covered and I will
put some sand in and then just shove the
rest over so I'm just putting a little
bit in the middle so it helps to push
the stones to the sides
okay so now we have our stones in let's
continue filling it up
[Music]
you know this is one of the most
annoying things when you have a pot and
it's almost full I think people's like
oftentimes I just give up at this point
that they say that's good enough but if
you guys know me you know that I hate I
really hate it to win the pots are not
full so what I'm gonna go do is I want
to put this pots inside of here just
like this the water it's to see I'm
gonna water to see how well the water
actually runs out of this okay it kind
of has to be inside of there but I can
just forgot about that and you will
let's see how it runs out be good
training considering I put a little bit
in let me mix up a little bit I am gonna
go mix up some more soil to cover up the
rest of this pot I'll see you guys after
that okay and there we go guys our pot
is now full to the top and you can see
the watch at the bottom is that really
ready dirty I'm not sure why I think
that's cuz of the peat
but yeah anyway this pot is ready for
our seeds that you will get so what I'm
gonna do is gonna leave it outside so it
can suck up the water and get nice and
moist for the seeds
and I'm gonna go inside and talk more
about the species okay y'all sorry back
inside and not let's talk a little bit
more about the actual species himself as
you can see I got quite dark outside I
had to take the sand art and mix it in
with noose and put it back in a couple
times it was really really annoying
because but what happened is that the
sign wasn't really mixed well together
so when I try to put on top it was dark
it was just compacting
was not mixed properly so I just had to
make some multiple times but anyway
let's talk about the species themselves
so I'm getting seeds when you get seeds
you need a oftentimes scarify the season
this means you rabbit against some
sandpaper and that allows water to
penetrate the seed coat and go into the
actual plant so the plant knows that
there's water and that it should grow so
because we're getting such fresh seeds
I'm not really gonna scarify it I'm
gonna just cut the end off just a little
bit at the end just to you know just how
about the ponds people said that does
help so what I'll do is put that pond
like that outside keep it really nice
and moist so the ceilings can grow well
and as I've said these plants they don't
like staying wet they're actually one of
the very few cannabis plants that
actually prefer to stay dry so I'm will
be watering this plant about once or
twice a week I'll just be putting water
in a tray at the bottom and letting it
soak up and then after that leaving it a
completely alone that's actually the
reason why we created such a loose and
such a free draining soil so that the
plants won't stay what's that so that
they you know obviously don't rot up and
die and these guys hates root
disturbances so that's why we need to
put them into the final pot immediately
they will grow quite big and you know
moving them when people say that their
roots ready hating disturbed is really
nerve-racking cuz you know you don't
induce those plants these plants will
grow right outside then love lots and
lots of sunlight obviously the normal
water rain water pistols or reverse
osmosis water in the tray at the bottom
let it soak up or you can just overhead
water a top water it you know I don't
really like that cuz you saw with the
perlite at first the top and I hate
perlite and the way that it does that so
hopefully soon we'll get our season we
can plant them up together and we'll
have another plan get all of those
flowers that are outside in the next
hope you'll actually see one of those
horse fires that was inside the house
that I caught and fed to one of our
dormant venus flytraps and man i really
don't like this fast because they look
like a full of diseases so if you found
this video and a bit informative
entertain
please remember to leave a lack so the
YouTube algorithm can recommend this
video to other people who like the same
content and if you're ready enjoy this
video and you actually want to see us
plant those seeds together in the future
and you want to see us grow those seeds
please remember to subscribe to the
channel so you don't miss any of our
weekly videos so I'll see you guys in
the next episode just quote one of these
I don't know what flatus is but it's one
of those that will most probably me
forgets a chance just want to feed it to
our venus flytraps real quick you know
it was inside the house as well so
that's all that's not scary at all
please don't escape please don't escape
okay the bloodthirsty fire has been
caught
