Jimmy Butler saga with the Miami.
He ended Wednesday night when he was traded to the Golden State
Warriors as a part of a multi-team mega deal sources told ESPN
now a part of this agreement Butler will decline his 52 million
dollar player option for next season.
He's planning to sign a new two-year 111 million dollar deal
that carries through the 2026 2027 season Stephen a I'll start
with you on this with the addition of Jimmy Butler.
How dangerous is this Warriors team in the West no more dangerous
than they were yesterday.
Let's go.
I'm not moved at all.
Listen, and that's no knock against Jimmy Butler.
But what we're not going to do today is call this a mega deal.
It is not a mega deal.
The fact of the matter is if Jimmy Butler had ended up in Phoenix
with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker that would have been a mega
deal but him being in Golden State.
You got to understand something.
We're accustomed to seeing Steph Curry with Klay Thompson.
Jimmy Butler is not a Klay Thompson caliber player that type
of player rather.
He's big time.
He's playoff Jimmy.
He will produce his numbers go up every series in the playoffs
everybody.
No doubt about that.
And we know that he's big time and he's an all-star caliber
player.
I'm just saying in terms of this system who he's playing with
the personnel surrounding Jimmy.
No, this is not a mega deal.
This is something that's gotten the Golden State Warriors about
19.3 million dollars under the luxury tax and it's saving them
money.
It's a business deal.
And I think that also you gave away Wiggins now.
He's a guy that I think you can give away for a box of cookies
half the time because sometimes he shows up and he's a lead
helped him win a championship a couple of years ago, but on
far too many occasions.
He is missing in action.
He is MIA, which is why it is appropriate that he's heading
down to MIA as in Miami.
Oh my gosh.
No, my goodness.
He said a lot.
He did say he's not moved and this is a business deal.
So are you on this?
So I looked at our question.
What is this?
How did whatever how much better it just made them more
interesting.
Now, this is my one caveat on this one, but I have a problem
with us just banking on postseason being able to show up
because at this point you got to stay healthy long enough to
get there.
All right, right.
So this team to me that gave up three guys.
You got one back literally the numbers and the supporting cast
around them.
The supporting cast has been something that has been a recurring
conversation, right?
Yes, didn't up the ante there.
Now what I will say is if they can figure out a way to finish
six avoid the play in the three of these guys together Draymond
Green, Jimmy Butler, Stephen Curry.
We know umpteen playoff wins and experience if they can manage
to get a decent seed by the end of the regular season, avoid
the play in and match up with a Houston with a Memphis.
I'm gonna give him a shot.
But other than that, I didn't think this made them a contender
a shot to do what a shot to slow the pace of the game and make
some of those younger teams uncomfortable.
Is that how the Warriors want to play because you got to realize
now he's not going to be the guy like he was in Miami.
Everything flows.
There's a curry.
It's a move constant motion.
Jimmy, I don't I agree with Stephen 8.
This doesn't do anything for me.
They really wanted Kevin Durant.
Kevin Durant wanted no parts of Golden State.
He left on his own and get the guy that made him leave on his
own is still there.
I ain't going back there, man.
You don't yell at me and curse me out in my face.
You think I'm gonna come back and play with you and help y'all
win.
Don't I would rather not win then go back and help you win
after you were with baseball Blakely disrespectful to me.
There's a bigger reason why I and this is just my personal
belief.
There's a bigger reason in my mind why he didn't go back.
He left of his own volition.
They were a better team when he left then they are now.
That's number one number two when you left part of the reason
people believed it and he never confirmed it, of course, but
part of the reason people believe that a that he left was
because it was never going to be his team no matter how great
he was no matter the fact that he was the best player on the
team is Steph Curry's franchise forever and always and so why
go back to that kind of situation?
He is happy in Phoenix.
He is comfortable.
He did not ask for a trade at all.
The only way they didn't want to move them.
The only reason they were thinking about it was because
Bradley Beal wouldn't wave is no trade clause.
I mean, you can't make this up.
No, you can't make this up.
Water's right.
You get once I'm in the house.
Hello.
I ain't leaving.
Yeah, you don't want you.
I don't care.
You do you add him with the no trade clause.
That's not news.
Is the check is the direct deposit hit?
Right?
Okay.
I ain't going nowhere.
I understand man.
I understand.
I'm just talking about for Miami.
It's hard for me to believe you didn't want to go to Miami.
Well, but but I understand but similar to the conversation
around Katie not want to go back to Golden State when when he
was interested in my in my Miami past and so with this there's
ego involved in all of this, of course, of course, but and the
thing you said Stephen a that a Golden State was never going
to be his team.
That's Booker's team.
That's right.
So and I don't know if he really cares about that at this
point in his career.
I want your problem.
Kevin and red is really really really and he's really at peace
with who he is and what he's done.
Kevin and red is going to do things on his term.
All he wants to do is who all that other stuff about leaving
going to this place and maybe winning a championship.
He wants to win a championship on his terms and I don't have
a problem.
Here's a reality.
He has every right to feel that way because he's playing he's
balling out.
He's still giving it to you still giving you 27 a night.
He's balling.
He ain't the reason that Phoenix is an average team.
It's certainly not him in terms of his playing ability and
Phoenix doesn't want to let him go.
The only reason why it was even a consideration is because
the only change they could make is with regard to him.
Where can he go?
First of all, Kevin Durant in my mind could be a hired mercenary.
He can go anywhere play with anybody.
He's going to make that thing better, right?
But if he's going to stay in Phoenix, they added Nick Richards.
They got to get that flow going.
Remember early in the season.
Phoenix was starting to look good.
There were conversations about bud holding them accountable.
They like the new culture all of that.
I think that Phoenix needs to add.
I don't even know what they can add.
Honestly, they got to stay healthy.
Are you ready for this?
Are you ready for this Monica?
It ain't gonna happen.
Stay healthy.
To answer Shannon's question.
It ain't gonna happen.
He could go back to OKC.
See what I tell you.
He could.
He literally has all the assets.
OK, they have an abundance of assets.
Why would he do that?
I didn't say he would.
I said he wouldn't do it.
But I'm saying in terms of somebody that has the assets to get
him, they've got young talent.
They've got a whole boatload of assets from in terms of draft
capital.
They could give Phoenix a boatload for him.
And if he was in OKC with Shea Gilchrist Alexander, with Chet
Holmgren, even with Heinstein, I mean, my Lord.
Yeah, but it ain't gonna happen.
Okay, that brings me to my next conversation.
I'm gonna let y'all rock out on football because I'm getting
ready to go and enjoy myself.
Get back to the rivalry of North.
And at 8 in the morning.
Go ahead.
Yes, I sure am.
The one thing I do think in this conversation, I think we
need to go ahead and get comfortable with acknowledging
the changing of the guard.
Because even if this Warriors team is able to finish six or
whatever, right?
Yeah, we respect them, even Phoenix to a degree.
Who's keeping up with exactly who you mentioned?
OKC, Cleveland at this point, Boston, like in terms of the
stamina and the cadence. Step one for Phoenix to see if they
can realize this promise is for them to be healthy enough
for a long enough stretch to do something.
Yeah, but also you can't have it both ways, Eminem.
Tell me, what's both ways?
Here's what I mean.
You're absolutely right about younger teams changing the guard,
Cleveland, Boston, OKC, etc.
We can't summarily dismiss Dallas, who just acquired AD.
OK, we can't dismiss Jokic, who's playing all-world.
Playoff time, best of seven series.
And we certainly can't pick that can't.
We cannot dismiss the Lakers.
With the new roster, they don't got enough people.
The Lakers can be dismissed this season.
Oh yeah, come on now, hold on.
Luca, Luca and LeBron together.
I didn't know they would go out and get a big man.
I like that.
I love Mark Williams.
I like Mark Williams more than that.
I'm saying.
Did we just do a number on y'all in the garden?
Relax.
We're the little six guys.
We have a six player.
Shannon, relax.
Shannon, everyone shows up in the garden.
There you go.
It's a stage.
You see All-Star Eve?
That is circled on the calendar.
Kobe or the Os aren't giving it to him.
I gotta admit, when they picked up Mark Williams last time,
I went like this.
Damn.
No, you know, Luca, if Luca and LeBron are balling together
and you got a big body, that's a rim-protected defender.
That could go a long way because of the greatness of Luca
and LeBron.
And Luca ain't doing nothing but eating oatmeal in the morning.
Oatmeal and salads.
Whoo, it's over.
Now, you know that's a lie.
You know that's a lie.
They got four and a half players right now, though.
And the only person defending at a high level is Mark Williams.
That's fair.
We got Dorian, Fendi, Smith.
We got Van.
Oh yeah, Doe.
Doe's defending at a high level.
But you have seen high-powered offenses knock off a few teams.
I'm not saying you'll win that championship, but you can knock
off some teams with a high-powered offense.
100%.
Before we let you roll, who is your favorite currently at the
halfway point out of the East and the West?
Okay, C. And y'all, I think Cleveland doing something.
Okay.
I've been saying Cleveland for a while now.
I'm not ready to give it.
Listen, listen.
Cleveland was balling and then they ran into Boston.
I still got to stay with Boston.
I think Boston is just like, listen, we the champions.
We don't have to exhaust ourselves during the regular season.
Cleveland's going to have to show me.
Cleveland can beat them, but I still think you give the edge
to Boston, and I think, okay, C.
But Chet Holmgren and Hardenstein got to come back.
Absolutely.
But I like them adding Daniel Tyson in terms of size.
Here's my thing, because I'm with you on Cleveland proving
themselves in the postseason.
What I think is different, though, is Darius Garland, Kenny
Atkinson, Evan Mobley.
Like, I just think...
But I get you on Garland.
Mobley I like a lot, but he's been shooting the ball exceptionally
well. He's had the ball in his hands more.
Is that going to happen?
Is that going to last during the playoffs?
I'm not worried about it.
We all knew Kenny Atkinson is a good coach.
I just need him to be able to hit mid-range and still be a
problem defensively.
Is that Twin Towers defensively in the postseason?
Okay.
Before we get back to the Super Bowl, almost at the All-Star
break, who's your favorites right now?
East and West?
The Lakers?
No.
He don't even go to the Laker game.
He don't even make it to the Laker game.
Okay, St. Boston.
