Hi, I am Ashams Devi, Architect at TAG Design Lab.
Today we are here to discuss about Sanjeev Baxx tailoring unit at Trivandrum.
So Mr. Safer, CEO of Sanjeev Baxx approached us to design and execute a tailoring unit for their
bag manufacturing and we visited the site. Actually the site is in Benyaramur, near
Trivandrum. We decided to have an octagonal shape so that the people inside the building can have
360 degree view all around and we have provided a number of windows all around the octagonal shape
so that there will be cross ventilation and natural lighting inside the building.
There are two extensions on eastern side and western side. In the western side we have a
dining area and a common toilet and just above the dining space we have an attic space where
we can accommodate the employees who are coming from outside the state. The main challenge we
faced in this particular project was in the execution part. We decided to use reused materials
from the demolished buildings actually. So when you see the walls we have used a technology called
RATRA bond technology where we can save up to 30 percentage of materials. So all the doors and
windows which we have used are sourced from a building which got demolished from Trivandrum
Medical College. So when it comes to the roofing system we have adopted the Kerala traditional
architecture roofing system with wooden frames and mangler pattern tiles and when we have the
windows all around the building and when we have the clear story windows in the roof we will be
having plenty of natural light which can decrease the electricity which we are going to consume
inside the building. Since we have used 95 percentage of reused materials in this building
the carbon footprint of this particular building is much lesser
when you compare to the other conventional buildings.
Working with ACQUI, the design is very excellent. Basically I just gave an idea
what we expect, what we are expecting from Asham's team and he wonderfully
draw, give me a draft, 3D design everything about the building and construction.
So we are extremely very happy and the design is always superb. We are having an integrated
building but some of my friends and clients are coming. They are coming to see this building and
very happy with the architecture, with the design and the way he executed and everything is happy.
I'm wishing Asham's to do many more buildings like this.
So we are extremely happy. We are happy customer of TagLabs.
