The Tai dam female leopard was not known to be a successful mother but this cub was one she did manage to raise. This was actually my first sighting of the young male leopard as his mother brought him out to a bushbuck she had caught. At that age the young leopard is still almost completely dependent on the mother for food despite being almost the same size as her. This is archive footage from 2010 that was only previously seen as a few seconds of a highlights video.
Filmed in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa
About Rob The Ranger Wildlife Videos: The purpose of the channel is to show what it is like to experience seeing wild animals on an African safari. Nature Documentaries are often highly edited to tell a story, wildlife safaris are not, and the idea here is to show the wildlife sightings the way they were seen. Safari tours in Africa are generally suitable for all ages and this channel can be considered an educational channel about incredible nature, some scenes in the nature videos may be more graphic than people are used to but this is the reality of nature and is what you would see if you were present on such a safari in person. Safaris in Kenya, South Africa, or any other African country are an unrivalled experience for anyone with a passion for nature, wildlife photography, and travel. Hopefully the animal videos on this channel can provide a glimpse into what the nature experience is like and encourage more people to take a wildlife safari one day. hey everybody i'm rob the ranger and
you're watching me
no but anyway enjoy the video
it's a young male this one young male
cup
first ever time i've seen him
seen a picture of him when he was tiny
see mum's already getting crossed with
him
already getting to the age he's must be
a year old now so he's getting to the
age where she's going to get more
aggressive with him over time
push him away
oh
[Music]
like a little kitty
just a bit far
both drinking now
take it out come on
there's a big fella that where's
the one eating he's just moving up and
down here
she's one of the oldest females in the
area now
she was born in 1993
how hungry they live not 17 years you're
getting the animal in the or the
your subject in the right spot i don't
know
well the thing that fills the biggest
amount of the graph is a bit that gets
focused on i'm not sure
ah there you are the mother's awfully
good oh she's still just cleaning
down she's getting so she can get
between her back legs with the tongue
we're talking about on the top of the
hill there
just the same as ordinary cats right
yeah pretty much
just a bigger version exquisite beyond
exquisite
thanks timmy um impalas
maybe up to the size of nyalas and
anything smaller than that
um unusual kills yeah i'd also say it's
a bushback
oh sure you can see its ears
this we've never seen before
zone
it's making me quite angry
share a kill yeah but they take it in
turns to eat
but how come that survived that kill
survive here without anybody anything
else catching you know finally
oh it's fairly cool
probably wasn't particularly open she
probably just ate around the ramp so
there wasn't a lot of smell
it's well hidden in the reeds so things
are only going to start finding it now
when they start opening up the stomach
and it starts to smell
so this would have been this afternoon
that she would have killed it yeah
so fresh and she would have then gone
back to can you see where the quality is
now what do you think there's a bush
my mother come and finish off yeah well
he'll eat as much as he can and then
he'll go and rest for a while and then
she'll eat
and then she'll be full and she'll rest
the dogs outside
because you're quite near the border of
the campaign right now aren't we we're
right at the edge we're on the fence
line
you're in bed yeah
no that's the same guy's going
back home
well she knows her territory she knows
where she would have left it
she's cleaned the whole bone and she bit
right through the bone you can see how
the bone just look
are they efficient either or they just
yeah very efficient eaters they'll see
they clean that bun and he's actually
killing the leg before he moves onto the
body
but they started to tear look at that
like hmm
i'll show you tomorrow i've got the book
in my my box here but i've only got a
picture of this guy when he was very
young
and he was snarling so you can just see
the spot pattern around the face rather
than
around the whiskers and it's a whisker
pattern that we recognize them from
uh is it is that unique one
with lions as well but lion's whisker
pattern isn't quite as
prominent as the leopards the leopard's
nice and black and distinct the lions is
light brown on lighter brown
so in all the 17 years of her life she's
only managed to raise one cub
previously and that was the one before
this
so she's only got good attitude and
she's got old
to to maturity well this is this is
almost maturity
yeah almost now but she's always lost
her cups before that
and the average leopard when do they
become proficient in raising their
cubs um other leopards have done it
from their first litter other leopards
have never
raised a cup at all we thought this was
going to be a leopard that never raised
a cup at all
until she raised the last one
yeah to all intents and purposes i
thought this one was dead as well
are you sure this one yeah it's the same
one
wow
my camera is terrible my camera is the
one that ron uses
i've got another one being donated from
the uk
the end of this month
with hd and everything so
how long have you been in this country
um
i came out here as a baby went back to
go to school and now i've been out here
since how old was i i've been out here
13 years
since leaving school you haven't got the
south african accent
oh i've been in the bush all the time
working with people from overseas
don't deal with that many south africans
although when i go to england everybody
does say have an accent because i don't
sound like them anymore
not when i'm there how old were you when
you came in here
firstly i was a baby and then i went
back to go to school and spent my school
holidays out here and then came back
when i finished school basically i was i
was like 19 or something yeah your
actions fixed once once once you come in
after the age of
13 you have to be fixed
she sounded like a manchurian until then
[Music]
was the kidneys those brown bulbous
things there
um they could be it looks like it could
just be the intestine
oh yeah it's not belmont it seems to be
like encased in like
that is it you can ask my friend bruce
over there he knows more about that
you'll never learn oh no
look at that that looks like an
intestine look at that that is
interesting
look at that you've got to look at that
that's just amazing
yeah oh sis
that's awful that's the tastiest
birthday
especially
awful and truck
oh my god look at his teeth he doesn't
need a dentist that's for sure
those cannons are amazing
look at that eating like a sausage
you getting hungry bro i want to tell
you something i'm getting yucks
yes from there
oh that's beautiful gee
rob you're a genius in case you didn't
know
