After already suffering 2 flat tires.. I thought I had the problem solved.. Not so much..
Let me check the tire. Oh, it's flat again.
My journey around the planet begins at North America's most northern drivable point.
The plan is to ride through Canada and America before crossing over to Europe.
From there, I'll make my way through the Middle East and Asia.
After island hopping through Indonesia, it'll be Australia and finally New Zealand.
The end of my journey will be marked by the southernmost point of the South Island.
I'm calling it the Big Spiral, and this is act two to an Alaskan beginning.
Good morning. Today, we're going to go to Farwell Canyon.
I don't even believe it myself.
And the reason I say that is because in the last two videos, I had some problems.
Holy crap. I have to go, go, go, go.
So the first video, I tried to climb a hill, crash the bike.
I had to turn around, do a big detour.
And in the last video, I got two flats.
No! Now I'm screwed.
That burnt up a lot of time.
Had some help from Carl. Thanks, Carl.
But the flat problem might not be over either,
because here, let me show you.
So I've already been pumping it up this morning.
But last night, the tire went flat.
So this morning, there's next to nothing in it.
It's holding air now, but I think it has a slow leak.
So I think I'm just going to have to, you know, stop every hour or so
and just pump it back up, because if it gets too flat,
then I'm really going to have a problem.
So I just have to keep an eye on that.
The other thing is I need water.
I'm completely out and I'm totally parched.
But I have a solution for that.
So if you look over there, there's a creek going into the Fraser.
So that should have some good water for me.
And to get over there, I'm going to be taking that bridge.
Okay, on the road again.
All right, so let's get some water
and cross that bridge.
Yeah, the back tire feels like it's got a lot of air in it right now, but
oh, it's a beautiful morning, though, isn't it?
There's the bridge.
Oh, it's a mesh bridge.
I can see right down to the river.
Awesome.
Let me check the tire again.
It feels a bit funny.
I'm sure it'd just be me being paranoid again, but
maybe I need to be more paranoid because I've had
already so many issues.
Yeah, it's still good.
Yeah, I'm just like.
I'm emotionally damaged.
All right.
All right, we'll just make a temporary detour here to get to the creek.
There's the creek.
Looks like a nice source of water.
I'm still going to put a chlorine tablet in because they do graze cattle here
and cattle are pretty, pretty poopy.
It's probably going to stay up a bit.
Let's see if I can find a spot to walk down.
That's good enough.
Nice, fast moving water.
The brown color is just silt.
Just a little extra minerals, I'd say, so
I'm not too worried about that.
I like that.
Three liters of water.
Let's put a tablet in.
Huh, maybe this would have been the place to camp last night.
Oh, I just dropped the bike.
Oh, man.
Oh, it's a bit of a rough start today, guys.
OK, golly.
OK, so up this road
is something called Gang Ranch.
And on my map, it says there's a general store,
but it's what time is it?
Nine, something.
I'm hoping they're open.
Then I can get a sweet drink or something,
or maybe even a patch kit.
You think they have that?
I don't know. Maybe not.
Oh, it's pretty up here.
So I want to just double check that this is not.
Oh, it does say Gang Ranch.
It's kind of a parking.
Oh, there's a general store.
Oh, it's been closed since the pandemic.
That's too bad.
I'm going to pump the tire again just in case.
All right. Well, that's kind of sad.
Oh, well.
So it's about 70 K to Farwell.
And the tire feels good.
And yeah, all is well.
For now.
So maybe he wants to get into the trees
and find some shade.
I'm going to have some breakfast
because I didn't have any breakfast yet this morning.
Perfect.
Oh, now it's really now that I know I can have food,
I'm like, oh, my God, I'm ready for it.
Well, if there's anything
that makes you feel better, it's miso soup.
I definitely picked my spirits up for sure.
What? Oh, wow.
What are those, parents?
Check the tire again.
But it still feels high, so
it's good, I think.
First person I've seen in a long time.
Much larger road now.
I think we're we're arriving at Farwell pretty soon here.
Washington, steep grade curves ahead.
Those are the
the chutes, the mountain bikers, they ride through those
between those kind of spiky things, hoodoos.
Oh, my God.
Let's get a closer look.
Crazy.
All right, well, finally made it to Farwell Canyon.
It took a little while, but in the end, I guess it was
it all worked out.
It was actually pretty impressive.
Like, I can't believe people riding down those.
At one point, I was like, oh, maybe I could do that.
But now I see it on personal, I'm like, and yeah, it's not happening.
It's not happening.
Anyhow, I'm going to head to Williams Lake
and I'm definitely need to get some tubes for the tires,
as well as some patch kits, because clearly I'm not prepared.
So let me check the tire.
Oh, it's flat again.
Oh, and here I thought I was going to be
able to make it to Williams Lake.
There's motorbikes coming up the hill.
Oh, they may be able to help me.
Hi, you wouldn't happen to have a patch kit or anything like that?
I think we both have patch kits.
That'd be great.
Yeah, this is my first flat right here.
Oh, really? Yeah.
Oh, you have to buy a tube out of this.
Well, I'm getting better.
When did you start getting flats?
Yesterday.
Where did you stay last night?
I just camped by the Fraser, by the gang range.
Oh, gang range, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Good skill to have.
Did this a couple of times.
Oh, man, you just want to stand on that maybe?
You said you're going to Williams Lake and then you're heading back south?
No, I'm going to Alaska.
Alaska? Yeah.
So you're going to need a few more tires?
Yeah, yeah.
I would buy like full on new tires before you get.
Yeah. How far to Alaska?
Puddle Bay.
Yeah.
Should we try it?
Yeah, we'll do them twice, but then you end up at the other side of the farmhouse.
Sweet, these things look awesome.
Those are also good for scratching and what not.
OK, I think we'll be good.
I already gave my money to everybody,
somebody else yesterday, but I can give you an American.
Oh, thank you.
When I heard you guys coming off the hill, I was like, oh, yes.
Welcome to Williams Lake.
All right, so now that I'm back to civilization,
I need to get at least one more tube and a patch kit.
As fun as it may be to watch me suffer,
it's not sustainable,
and I've been fortunate enough that I've had help.
But there's going to be situations where people may not come by for days at a time.
So, yeah, I need to be able to help myself.
Oh, someone just called you about 18, 18 inch tube, I think.
18? Oh, I don't know.
It's in a KLX 300. Pretty small.
Do you have a patch kit?
All right, sweet. Well, thanks for your help.
All right. Successfully got the tube.
Now I need a patch kit, and I'm going to go to the bike shop for that.
There's actually a pretty famous bike shop here called Red Shreds.
I didn't expect to be going there, but
they'll definitely have a tube repair kit, patch kit.
Red Shreds. It's been a while.
Hi, I'm looking for a tube patch kit.
Thank you. Will do.
Okay, finally got my little patch kit,
and I've booked a hotel in Quesnel.
And Quesnel's a bit north of here, so a little bit of a road ride to get there.
Quesnel, 90 kilometers.
So normally you'd take the highway to get there, but
the guy that sold me the tube, he said, go this way.
I was like, okay.
So this is totally the deluxe suite.
I have two beds.
Check it out. So amazing.
Look at that beautiful lamp in the corner.
Gorgeous. And then I have my own kitchen,
this sweet stove and fridge
and this gap between the stove and fridge is perfect for putting my boots.
And that cursed tube, it's going in the garbage.
Okay, it looks a little dated, but actually the shower was good,
and that's really what counts.
As for today, well, that tube really was cursed.
I have no idea what was going on with that thing.
And when I saw Derek and I believe Darcy coming up that hill,
I knew I would save two guys on dual sport bikes.
They were definitely going to help me out for sure.
And so I really got to say thanks to those guys, because
otherwise I might still be standing there.
The other thing is I have not updated you guys on my progress
in a couple of videos because things have been a little crazy.
So let's do that.
All right. So before all the tire troubles, I started in Lillooet
and went up around this pavilion, West Pavilion Road,
where I got my first flat right around there.
Sweat on the highway for a while while I fixed that.
Against my better judgment, I kept going
to Big Bar and took the ferry.
And then there's a little road going up here to, I guess, Jesmond.
I didn't even know it was there.
And then this way.
And then I went this way and that's where I had my second flat
where Carl, Carl helped me out.
And thank you, Carl.
And then, OK, still, I'm not giving up.
I'm going to keep going, keep going and then cross the bridge to Gang Ranch.
And then I think not all the trails are on the map here,
but maybe it was something like this.
And then we get to Farwell Canyon up here.
And then so at Farwell,
I cross the river at the bridge and then third flat right there.
Boo. Not good.
But anyways, drive up here, follow the guys up to Williams Lake.
I get a tube from there.
I go this way and then cross the river again
and then head up all the way on this road.
It's quite nice paved. Very easy.
And then to Quesnel.
So made a fair bit of progress in those last few days.
I completed half of the bottom half of BC.
Still a fair ways to go.
So I feel like my progress is a little slow.
So in the next couple rides, I'll try to speed things up a little bit.
I really need to get to Alaska.
If if you would like to keep watching these videos,
there's a red button down there somewhere.
And if you want to press that button, I would really like it.
So anyways, thank you very much.
And I'll see you in the next video.
