PUTTING UP A POLYCARBONATE GREENHOUSE / ALLOTMENT GARDENING UK

[Music] P1 we're looking for [Music] P1 imately just broke in the greenhouse good morning everyone and welcome to the most exciting Vlog of the Year actually of the five years that I've been on my allotment plot because today is the day we are putting up the greenhouse I'm so excited what a g my houseand is just going to get the second box there's two boxes we dragged one down here it only just fit in the car can you believe it um I am so bad at measuring stuff beforehand but there we go um he's just gone to get the second box and we're just going to crack on and put it up and um I'm so excited I could not be more excited so the greenhouse that we've got let me show you the box this box here has got all of the poles in so the actual sort of frame and structure it's polycarbonate so um Dave's gone to get the polycarbonate panels as you can see it is quite long brought it from uh dean.com can you believe it deams is still online and it sells green houses it had a massive discount on over Christmas time just before Christmas I think it was reduced from like 780 to like £300 so I just couldn't say no to it to be honest can you hear the birds Tom you need to feed him he's asking for food he's begging for food yes I just I just could not resist it um and I've wanted one for ages and I think polycarbonate is the way to go just because I'm a little bit worried about glass panels we have quite a few storms here and a few of them have come down before and smashed also I think it'd be easier to replace a polycarbonate panel than it would be like a glass pan I'm on my own here most of the time I don't have much help and I'm not very DIY handy you know not very good at DIY myself so sort of got to try and make things easier where I can here he comes here he comes with the second part this should have all of the uh polycarbonate panels in it excellent right [Music] right so these are polycarbonate panels that are going to be around the greenhouse and it's my job to find the right numbers of these P1 we're looking for P1 no wait we're not looking for P1 Li yeah no we are looking for P1 right are you P1 where are you P1 managed to make some windows look at that I made that I made that bit those windows are mine [Music] [Music] we just taken a quick break to have some lunch we just discovered that two of the poles we put on the wrong wrong way round but other than that we've not really made any major mistakes so this build is going really well which is surprising for us um and I think we will be done shortly we've been here about what 3 hours 4 hour hours Emma it's been seven hours it's not been 7 hours it's been about 3 and a half hours but we are having lunch now and and um yeah it's looking great I can't wait for you to see the finished result it's looking amazing look at it it's looking so good I've got it the end of the arch Ray yeah we're going to be finished in no time [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah that's it yeah [Music] [Music] that's it hold [Music] on good one should be fing in guys we have been here for I kid you not I think we got here at about 10: it's now nearly halfast 3 we've done it we've built the greenhouse look at it look at the size of it it's so much bigger than I thought it was when I was measuring it I did not realize how big it was my husband's a bit Delirious cuz we've been building it for hours I've got it right in front of the arch at the moment but I did not realize how big it was it is absolutely massive it's fantastic it's going to just give me so much room for growing let's take a look inside look at it I've even got windows that you can open for ventilation how amazing is that I didn't even know I had these on it until we started making it wow 22 this is so big this is so much bigger than I thought and it actually feels super warm in here already we've got a lovely sunny day and it actually feels like a greenhouse in here I'm thrilled Dave thank you so much for helping me I am just I'm just over the moon I'm just over the moon with it I'm so [Music] excited what happened wait wait wa wait immediately just broken the greenhouse right it's all fine it's all fixed it's a little bit flimsier than what I thought it was so I'm really glad I didn't pay over £700 for it but it's up it's looking fantastic and for the allotment plot it's going to be great um we're going to go home now it's Saturday so everyone's just dying to go home now have a shower have a bath enjoy our Saturday night and I will be back again to sort it all out so see you in a minute when we'll be uh in a minute for you in a couple of days for me right hey everyone we're back it's day two we putting up the greenhouse it's taking the entire weekend now but it's fine I'm very grateful to my husband and my son for being here all day yesterday we' popped back today and what we're going to do is duct tape it um I'm a little bit worried about the the panels coming out we're going to get some wind this afternoon and I just think it's a really good idea just to seal it up and make sure it's not going to fly away good morning it's waiting so nicely look always turns up whenever he hears my voice here it's so sweet you always turn up I will feed you in a minute I promise I don't think I don't feel like we were totally honest about that the build of that yesterday um I was so excited and happy and like just so thrilled for it to be going up that I didn't sort of talk about the reality he knows he knows he was there witnessing it all that was absolutely evil to put up that was horrendous um if I wasn't so excited about having a greenhouse I think I would have fried yesterday or the wind is definitely picking up I'm getting worried yeah it was um the instructions were not clear it was really difficult to put together and also a lot of the pieces didn't quite fit so it was just really it was just a nightmare basically right I on my camera then [Music] so considering we put it up yesterday a couple of the panels are sort of popped so they've sort of popped out of their things so down here in the bottom it's popped out and at the top there it's popped out so it's a little bit annoying cuz we really want it to be sealed as as well as possible so that's why we're going to use duct tape to kind of just seal it seal it properly I think I have been told by a lot of you guys that this is is quite a common problem and I want to sort it out before I actually start using it do you know what I mean so most people have to sort of reinforce it stop it blowing away in the wind stop all the panels from popping out so I'm going to do it now before it sort of ruins everything in there that's the plan that's the master plan I'm just TR trying to dry it off a little bit so the tape will actually [Music] stick right this do tape that we brought is the clear duct tape so it's completely clear I thought that might just be the better one for it so you see what I mean all the light goes through so firstly you won't see it and it won't be unsightly and secondly the light will still go through it so I just thought that would be the best one to buy and we're just going around any of the joints on it and just sealing it up properly basically [Music] so on the roof here I've noticed some of the panels look look at that it's just come away from the top that so frustrating it's so frustrating when you've just built it and that happens I knew it would be a little bit flimsy it's not like a glass greenhouse and it was really hard to build but it is a little bit disheartening seeing all these gaps everywhere we now I'm starting to sort of feel a little bit annoyed yeah I know see if I can push that one [Music] in that's an excellent idea well done done right my Greenhouse is now 75% duct tape I have a feeling this is going to be a running theme we have just started to duct tape up the entire thing so all the points wherever that it meets the window meets something is now being duct taped and then at least even though it's still a bit flimsy at least it won't come apart and then in terms of like anchoring it down it is pretty heavy and as long as I keep doors closed and stuff I really don't think it's going to take off but then a lot a lot of you will be shouting at the screen right now saying it will it will um it is pretty heavy I know it gets windy here but that is do you know what I mean it's not like a um what is it that blows away it's not like a poly tunnel where it's like um just flimsy bars and stuff like that I can understand how that fly away this is like this took two people to carry here in boxes this is quite heavy so I really think I mean the only risk I think there is is something blowing into it and smashing into it but in terms of this this blowing away I really don't think it's going to happen and you can hold me to that that's okay if it does you can just refer me back to this video I don't mind um yeah duct taping it all together still and it's looking good [Music] [Laughter] [Music] right so to end this Vlog I thought I'd give you a quick update of all the seedlings seeds seedlings that I've got growing um a lot of them are seedlings now but some of them haven't germinated yet which is a little bit disheartening I don't think these are going to go out into my new greenhouse because they're quite happy here and the idea of moving all of these makes me feel a little bit sad for them you know they're settled they're happy they want to stay here that's fine and I think I'll start new seeds in the greenhouse but this is what we've got growing so far far so the potatoes are chitting really nicely um it's got rutzer on it it's got um this rutzer potato Mist which was sent to me by andat home and garden and I've just sprayed it all over them which is supposed to help it's just supposed to help with the health of your potatoes so these are chitting these are Rockets these are Maris Pier these are a second early variety behind that you can see all the tomatoes starting to come up which is absolutely incredible so happy these aren't going to be potted on yet they've only got their seed leaves so they need to get a bit bigger before I can pop them on um and then next to them we've got the cosmos no sign of them yet I've got some cucumbers here they are very slowly starting to germinate which is incredible most excitingly is the top the top of the Shelf all of my peas are starting to germinate look at all of these two different varieties two different varieties of peas all of them germinating incredible and then we got sweet peas here which are doing amazing I don't have that many seeds on the go at the moment um but we are heading to March we are absolutely full steam ahead heading into March and then lots more will go out a lot will be sewn directly in March and then obviously we've got quite a lot to se from seed here so I'm going to Le the Vlog here today CU I don't I have no idea how long this Vlog will be it's been very exciting it's been a very long tiring weekend next week I will be continuing with sorting out the greenhouse trying to make it all neat trying to design the inside inside of it I've got some ideas for the plan um and we're going to try and put that into action so it's going to be a really full-on week on the allotment plot but I am so excited that we've got the greenhouse up hopefully it doesn't blow away I will keep you updated on how it does do check out my social medias as well because I will be putting a lot more sort of little clips and details
