Women Football - HIGHLIGHTS | Athletic Club vs. Real Madrid (Liga F 2024-25 Matchday 20)

A squad that is the envy of most clubs around the world. And they are right in the title race this season. Last term Barcelona, 12 points ahead of Real Madrid at the end up. A win today for Real. Take them to within touching distance. Two points behind Barca. That's a short one, here's Del Castillo who will give the return to Caroline Weir. The touch is heavy. And in her haste to get a shot away, she almost produces the goods. Not really been a fruitful season, scoring-wise for Caroline Weir. That's a lovely touch from Brun towards Caroline Weir who could do with some reinforcements. Spins away brilliantly. Cross is tipped away by Nanclaris. The warning signs are emboldened and underlined. Real Madrid down the flanks. Taken by Sarra Ortega. In the Saga. Back to Zubieta. Great industry here from Athletic Club and Zubieta is in behind. And nobody there to take it. So and it's given penalty Athletic Club. Ball protection brilliant. Garcia. Who chooses her number 7 on her back. After her hero Raul. With a chance to take the lead against Real Madrid. Excellent. And Real Madrid have to do it the hard way again. On Athletic Club's grandest stage. They lead against the title chasers. Seems unlikely as to impossible. It might come here for Ateneo Del Castillo. Roddied forwards. Back to Del Castillo. A critical goal kick. Almost by force of nature here for Real Madrid. Two legs from them up against Barcelona as well. Feye. A lovely roll. Must have taken a deflection indeed. Back in the line up today. Naomi Feye. Adetori Woods. Improvement on recent finishes of 15th and 7th. As Feye. Burgles her way into the box. Crossing the halfway line is a bit of an issue for Athletic Club right now. Lovely turn. And a lovely effort from Caroline Weir. She can produce something like that from nothing. I mean it's inches from a leveller. It's Toletti's ball. It's a different approach. It's lower. There's an opening here for Real Madrid. Excellent block. Athletic Club's lead preserved for now. Here's Carmona. Easily out-muscled. Oh and the opportunity for the leveller arrives. And Mael Akrar. Thunders in from close range. Took her a while to get her first four. Real Madrid. She's racking them up from centre back now. Much busier than Athletic Club's. Full steam ahead for third at the moment. As Carmona says, that's hers. They've got some work to do. It's too tall. And it's a powerful drive. Carried away by Clares. It's under Toletti. Couldn't resist. Puru somewhere, not away. The ball now stays in her feet. There's Carmona. Beautiful cross all the way through to Silva. Out to her feet. Back to Del Castillo. Tame, tame finish when the opportunity presented itself. And if there is to be a winning goal in this game for Real Madrid, it surely won't come from a chance even as clear as that. As I say, the acceleration is so hard to keep up with. Speed of thought to match her. Speed of feet. Brilliantly done. And Redondo can't finish. Excellently stopped by Nanclares. It was at her near post. But it's not as easy as they all say. Linda Caicedo electrifying. Del Castillo. Her passer-in product's been very, very good today. Del Castillo. Carmona. That's... It's sensational. The captain steps up when Real Madrid needed her big time. And a tribute to teammates that they wish were able to be out there on the field with them today. From 40 plus, Olga Carmona may have just kept Real Madrid's title push alive. And Nanclares is at full stretch for it. Villarino. Weak in the tackle. Carmona. Wasted no time. That's nice from Redondo. He wants the return. Navarro goes alone! There's the incision that Real Madrid have really lacked in this game. If it wasn't for Carmona from 40 yards plus, it would be a point apiece right now. Haven't seen enough of that from Real Madrid today. Two points now separate Real Madrid from Barcelona. They had to win this one. And when it was demanded, the captain, Olga Carmona, from miles out, found the back of the net.
