In today's video, I share how my husband and I transformed our living room. We did a small makeover on the walls and a mantel. ( just in time for Christmas) I made some Christmas DIYs on a budget to decorate the mantel and share some cool hacks using some items that we already had. THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel.
Oh my god, it has been a very long time since I post any videos on here.
I'm sorry about that.
But so many things are happening.
We opened a new business here in Puerto Rico.
We're so happy, proud about it, but very busy.
So that's why I haven't been able to record any video or upload anything on here.
Sorry for that.
But since it's almost Christmas time, I want to make a small change on my living room.
So I thought maybe I can record that and show you guys.
It's going to be a little bit different type of video on this channel.
But I hope you like it.
I want to change the color of the room.
It's like a very light gray, but this wall is a darker gray.
So I want to paint everything in white.
I also want to change the curtain rods.
This one has been there for like 11 years or something like that.
So I need to replace that and put them a little bit higher.
I want to create a mantel too.
Hopefully, I'm going to have enough time to put a mantel on this area to make it perfect
for Christmas and to have more space to decorate and put my decorations.
So I'm really excited for that.
First, I'm going to remove everything like the curtain rods, the curtains, the decoration
from the walls.
And then I'm going to remove the screws and start covering those holes with spottings.
So yeah, really excited.
Let's get started.
You see all of these baskets here.
Well, I don't exactly like them, but they are actually covering a lot of screws that
this wall have.
Actually, I think four.
Yeah.
So that's why I have them for like almost a year.
And I'm finally going to remove them, cover them so I can put another type of art or something
a little bit more simple.
This is more like a boho style.
I'm not into that style anymore, at least for like the room.
My daughter's bedroom is very boho style and I really like it.
But for the living room, no.
So let's remove all of those screws.
I'm sweating already.
Bye bye full decor until next year.
I'm going to be using some white paint, the same one that I used in my daughter's bedroom
and on the hallway.
I still have some left.
I think this is going to be more than enough for the living room.
I'm going to start painting the edges.
I'm going to put some paint in here and start painting.
Okay.
Day two.
This is how the living room looks right now.
As you can see, I paint all of the edges of the window and the walls.
Now it's time to paint the rest of the walls.
My husband's going to help me.
I didn't show you like a before and after of the colors, but yeah, this is the difference.
This is the actual color of the wall.
It's like a dark gray and it's going to be white now.
Okay, guys.
It has been like two weeks, maybe.
We leave the living room just like that because we have been working so much.
But new additions, we add these blinds.
It used to have this one.
These are like paper blinds.
They're from Timu and I really like them, but it's kind of tricky to open and close them.
It costs like $3 or something like that.
So I just replaced them with this one from Walmart.
I think $6 for this size.
But I think I want to add one more on this window.
I'm not sure.
But today the plans are at the curtain rods, the curtains.
I'm going to use the same ones and something else.
These wall sconces.
Look at this.
They're so beautiful.
They are from Timu too.
Oh my God.
I need to adjust them.
But they're from Timu.
I think two for $23, something like that.
Black and this is like white.
I have two and I want to add them on each side of the TV.
I think it's going to look pretty cool.
These are like real wall sconces, lights.
They have like all of the cables on the back and everything.
But we're going to just do it like that for decoration purposes.
Maybe we can put like a battery operated candle.
Not candle, like light bulb.
I don't know if they come in...
Something like that.
I use it with a remote control.
I was looking at my boxes and I found these.
I think I got these maybe two years ago.
It was close.
It comes with three lights and a remote control.
And you can even change the color for Christmas.
This red, green.
And I think maybe I can put these on the top.
And it's going to look pretty cool.
Let me see.
This could look...
Let me put...
Okay.
Blue.
White.
What's wrong?
Well, it looks different on camera.
It's like flashing.
But like...
It's not flashing right now.
I don't know why it's flashing on camera but...
It worked!
I'm going to add another one on the other light.
I'm so excited!
I can actually use them right now.
Okay, so my plan is to make the mantel with just pieces of wood that I have.
So, the only thing that I have that I think I can use for the mantel to make it look big is this piece of wood.
I have other wooden sticks that maybe I can put on the front to make it look like a mantel.
Like a chunky mantel.
I think it's too big so maybe we can cut it like this.
I need to grab all the materials to start working on this.
Okay, so now I'm going to work on the mantel.
This is how it looks.
The other part of the mantel is going to be attached to the wall and my husband is working on that.
But, in the meantime, I'm going to work with this.
I want this to look very old.
So, I'm going to use this piece with my drill.
Videos that I have seen, they use this.
And also something like this.
And the hammer.
I don't know. Let's have fun and kind of destroy this thing.
Let's go.
This is how the mantel looks like and I really, really like it.
I love the color. Look at the edges.
I love it.
So, what I did, I stained the whole piece but then the color was too dark.
It was this color.
I was looking for something for a different color.
I don't know, like a little bit lighter.
So, what I did is I used this metal brush again on the whole piece.
I scratched everything.
As you can see, it has darker colors and lighter colors on the whole piece.
And I scratched everything again to have a lighter color.
And I love the result.
And then my husband was putting this piece on the wall.
He used the same wooden piece that he used on the mantel.
He just put one on the wall and he put this metal thingies.
So, this is going to help support the mantel and I think it's pretty strong.
Okay, the moment of truth.
I love it. Look at this.
It looks beautiful.
Okay guys, so we finished the mantel.
And I think it could be a really cool idea if I make some very simple DIYs
to be able to decorate that area because I didn't buy any sign or anything like that.
So, I'm going to try to use what I have.
And I'm going to DIY a few stuff to make it match with the rest of the decoration that I have in the living room.
And make it on a budget, of course.
So, I want to make something really quick.
I think it could be nice if I paint this white and put it right here to make it pop out from the wood.
But I want to paint this with a distressed look.
I'm going to use Weverly shop paint and paint this really quick.
Okay, I'm letting the first DIY dry.
Let's go for the second one.
I have this sign that I did for fall.
And I really like it. I love it.
And I love the size that it has.
And I need something for this mantel.
Like in this size.
So, I'm going to reuse the board.
I'm going to use the back.
I'm going to take this out and use the other side.
So, let's keep going.
Now, let's start decorating the mantel.
Okay, so I have a few gardens.
This one is from Walmart.
And I think I cut it in half.
But this is what I'm going to use for the mantel.
Now that I put the ground on, let's start decorating the mantel.
Okay guys, so this is how everything turned out.
I hope that you like it.
That you like the change that we did in the living room.
I really like it.
It looks, I don't know, more clean.
And I love the white color on the walls.
So, I really like that.
I love how the mantel turned out.
And how I decorated for Christmas.
Maybe I can add some twinkle lights.
Like battery operated twinkle lights on the garland.
I need to see if I have one.
But anyways, I hope that you like it.
If you do, a big thumbs up.
