No. Hello Akoya. Today we are grooming Akoya and she is a highlander cat. I believe they're
called highlander lynx. Look, I heard that you like treats. Want a treat? No? You're making
Lupa bark. You are very vocal. Hi. Miss Akoya. Hi Akoya. Oh, that was quick. Hi. Hi sweet kitty
cat. You just want some attention? I've been told that you don't like the crate but you're
not coming out. Come on. Here. What are you doing? Oh my gosh, she's so cute. Okay, come on out.
Good girl. Yeah, there we go. So the highlander lynx is known for their little curved ears here.
Oh, where are you going? And their bobbed tail. Hi. We're not going to go away though. We're
going to stay here, okay? I'm going to stay here. Would you like some tube?
Oh, you'd like some pets. Wow, you are really shedding. There's like clumps of hair coming off
of you. Look. Ma'am, where are you going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Have some
tube. You're rubbing yourself into it. That's a little strange. So the first thing I'm going
to attempt to do is clip Akoya's nails. Hopefully she doesn't bite me. That would be nice. The
Akoya had giardia when she was a kitten. Don't scratch with those back legs, ma'am.
And that... Hey. Oh, you're going to scratch. You are going to be a scratcher, aren't you?
Like pets? Do you like pets? Okay. Because she had giardia, it causes a lot of diarrhea,
which inevitably led to a lot of baths. So as a kitten, she was bathed so many times that she is
or should be, anyway, used to bathing. Hi. Hi, pretty. Her nails are fairly short and dull,
so the owner obviously takes care of them at home. So I'm going to stop that.
Because of their little curled ears, they tend to get very dirty ears.
The ears are super tiny. Super, super tiny. I actually think cleaning them might be challenging.
I don't even think I can fit my pinky in there. I'm going to try. Yeah, yeah. She's used to
having them cleaned because the owner cleans them regularly. How dirty are they? Okay, let me see.
Oh my god, these are the tiniest little ears I've ever seen in my life.
Don't scratch me. I'm going to take some q-tips.
Okay, so the really tiny ears, I can understand why these get dirty.
I am not going to go too deep in there because it's very hard to see. I did do some research
online that said that this cat breed is prone to ear infections. I don't know if this is ear
infections though, or she told me that they just get really dirty, kind of like the sphinx.
So it doesn't mean that these are infected. Okay, now you are shedding so much freaking hair.
It's unbelievable. Yeah? Is it unbelievable? What the heck? The hair is like
cotton and it comes out in clumps and it's sticking to my nose.
Okay ma'am, are you gonna let me give you a bath?
And into the water. So one of my cats that I had years ago had a medical condition when he was a
kitten and I had to bathe him twice a week for two months. And in that process he became accustomed
to water and he actually loved water. And if I were in a bathtub or something, he'd try to jump
in it. So I kind of assumed that Akoya might be similar because this is not a new experience for
her. She's experienced water and being submerged in it. And so far, so good. She seems to be
totally fine, which is kind of what I thought. And this is why it's so great to get cats,
especially kittens, accustomed to bathing at a young age. This one unfortunately had a medical
problem that was causing it, but even if they don't, kittens are a lot easier to manage if they
don't like the bath versus an adult cat. And if you can get them used to it, your future, in case
you ever have to bathe them, will be a breeze. And you will thank yourself. And the cat will thank
you because it won't be nearly as stressed as it could have been. Yep. I think you kind of like it.
I think you kind of like it. She just likes being rubbed and touched, so she seems to not
care too much about grooming for that reason. Good kitty. Good Akoya. Good girl. I like you.
You're very cute. So this particular breed is rare. I think they originated in the 1990s,
so they're still a relatively new breed of cat. And so breeders can be very hard to find,
making it a more rare cat breed. It's okay. It's okay. We're not going to panic.
We're not going to panic. I'm going to rinse you down and then we can take you out.
You're going in the rage cage and something tells me that the blow dryer
is going to cause a little bit of a frenado with how much hair you're shedding.
Ma'am, we don't want you to go back into the bathtub. I love her little bobbed tail. I think
it's so cute. And I believe that that is a natural occurrence in the breed. It's not a cropped tail.
Some of the research I saw online said that this breed comes from a wild cat,
but then I read some other research that said that that's not true. So I'm not entirely sure
about that. Although they do kind of resemble one with the little bobbed tail. Hey, stay there.
Okay. Just a moment. Just a moment. I have to rinse this off. Where are you going?
Ma'am, where are you going? I'm too short for this shit. Okay. That was my workout for the day.
Thank you. Thank you. Yeah. You gave me a run for my money.
No. Okay. So there are some serious design flaws with this cage that I actually hate.
Number one, if the cats hit these doors hard enough, they will just fly open because they're
only magnetized, which is really stupid. Another thing is, yeah, you can put your hand through
these holes, but then if the cat decides that it wants to claw at your hands or try to come out of
the holes, you will be shredded. Design flaw number two that I hate. And the third design flaw is the
fact that it's clear everywhere. So the cat doesn't realize that it's in a box and it tries to run at
the walls because it thinks that it's open. So three major design flaws with this dryer cage for
cats that I absolutely hate. And if anybody wants to design me something better, I would love to
have it. This cat is not a good candidate for the rage cage because she is far too smart. So I am
going to put her in the cage to dry, which means that she is not going to get very dry, but oh,
well, you win, I lose. Come here. Now, Akoya is still quite wet. I would like to get her a little
bit more dry if I can. Putting her in the rage cage is not an option. So I'm going to try to blow dry
her with the small dryer here. I have a feeling it's going to go very poorly and she is going to
run for her life, but we're going to try. Why not? The happy hoodie I just put on her is a little bit
tighter than the previous happy hoodie and I thought maybe it would help her better to calm
down, which I don't know if it is the happy hoodie or if it's just the fact that she is not confined
or that I'm using a dryer with less power, but she seems so far to be tolerating this a lot
better than the previous dryer. It's okay. If I can just get you a little bit more dry, Akoya,
it'll be better before you go home. Girl, look at this. So this is much better than the rage cage
for her. You just got to make sure that you don't hit their face with the dryer because once you hit
their face, it's usually game over. You're not going to jump down. Nope. You are the sweetest
cat ever. You're the sweetest cat ever. So surprisingly that worked out really well and
not only did it work to get her nice and dry, but it also worked to help me give her a really great
brush out too. So I'm glad that I was able to get her dry because I hate it. I hate when I have to
send cats home wet and I hate it. I don't like sending home any animal wet. They need to be sent
home dry. Dries me nuts, right? So now we are using the butter comb. A lot of people ask me
where I get this butter comb. It is great for cats, also known as a cat comb, and you can get
it off my website, growwithadogs.com. The way that its teeth are shaped are not like an average comb
and these little short bristles underneath help to grab that undercoat to de-shed and de-mat at
the same time. Are you a pretty kitty? I absolutely love Akoya. She has an awesome personality. She is
so sweet. She loves people. She's very tolerant of grooming. Even when she's upset, she doesn't do
absolutely anything to voice her concerns other than being a little bit vocal and that's it.
A plus Akoya. You are a beautiful cat for grooming and I'm sure your owners love you. I
would keep you. Look at her. She's cuddling into me. She's literally cuddling me right now. You're
so sweet. You're a sweet little kitty. You're like the dogs when they put their head on my shoulder.
She is purring and she is kneading. She just put her paw on me and she's kneading me.
Are you kneading? You're so sweet. What a good kitty.
I can't. Cats never cuddle me like this.
I tried to give you treats you wouldn't take any. Will you take some now?
What are you doing? Let me take this off. There. Let's give you a nice little brush out around
your head because you need it. I just need to shave your butt. Nobody likes peppercorn kitties,
okay? Where are you going? No. All right. You want to go back in your house?
No. Why do you rub yourself in it? It's such a strange thing to do. Do you want some? Bizarre.
Okay. I don't want you rubbing yourself in it. You're going to smell like cat food instead of
a nice clean feline. Ain't nobody like that.
Okay, Akoya. Will you go back in your house for me? I've been told that you don't like your cage.
This way. This way. No, this way. Thank you. Please come again.
