If you stand on the ice like this, or like this, or like this, then you will have a hard
time skating.
So here are my 5 tips to immediately skate better.
1.
Right body position.
Easy tip.
Big impact.
Instead of standing upright like this, you have to be in a good body position, or posture,
however you want to call it.
So this means that you have to bend your hip, bend your knees, lean forward, and have the
This position lowers your body focus and gives you a better stability and agility on the
ice.
And the best is, you don't have to learn it.
Just do it the next time when you are on the ice and you will immediately feel the advantages.
2.
Wear the right clothes.
Don't wear skiing clothes, don't wear tight jeans, don't wear anything that blocks your
mobility.
My recommendation?
Skiing or skating socks, at least long and comfortable socks, sweatpants, a hoodie, that's
it.
Maybe a comfortable jacket, but not a coat.
And one thing is for sure, no ice rink is as cold as some of you beginners with your
skiing pants, skiing jacket or winter coats expect it to be.
3.
Don't be afraid.
Being afraid of the ice causes mistakes 1 and 2.
You stand too upright and cramped because you are afraid from falling and you wear too
much clothes because you are afraid from hurting yourself and of the low temperatures.
To be honest, respect from the ice is good, but being afraid from the ice and afraid from
falling causes more problems than it solves.
I know it's easy to say for me, but try to be confident, try to have fun, try to practice
as good as you can without being too afraid from the ice and then progress and confidence
will come fast and the fun as well.
Bonus tip.
If you are afraid, feel the ice.
Go down and just feel it.
Believe it or not, this can help you.
2.
Train to fall forwards and then get back up on your feet.
This for example gives my students a lot of confidence when they are afraid.
4.
Open your feet.
If you walk on the ice like this, you won't be able to skate.
Open your feet like this in a V shape and try to glide on the blade.
Skate on the ice and don't walk.
Open your feet like this and try to glide on one foot and then change to the other foot.
This is ice skating.
And if you want to increase your speed, then you have to push yourself forward while you
are changing the foot like this.
That's good.
Step number 5.
