this setup mistake is wrecking your golf
please please please avoid this at all
costs so I see so many golfers when they
set up to the golf ball do it
incorrectly one of the main things they
do wrong is get the relationship between
the lower and upper body Incorrect and
the levels of the pelvis what we see is
basically if you imagine my belt buckle
or my lower Hub as I would call it would
be to the right of this rod in the
ground and my stering would be more on
top of or even to the left in the ground
so we get this kind of what I would call
Twisted spine shape
address what that creates is basically
the right hip high the right rib cage
low in attempt to get the head kind of
level or behind the golf ball and it
creates that what we would call curve
migrated scoliosis if you like which
basically means it's very difficult to
make rotation or shift pressure
correctly in the back swing what tends
to happen then is from this
setup is we tend to get a lot of sway
off the golf ball or we get lack of
rotation or even start of what we would
see is left Bend now when we get lack of
rotation or too much left Bend in the
golf swing what that tends to lead to
then is a golf swing that's over the top
and gives us big slices big poles Fades
and really poor contact it can present
the shank or the heel of the club to the
ball causing a shank and also when we
start down this way generally if we've
got some Talent OR skill you'll tend to
lean back back and fish for the golf
ball again causing fats and thin
shots so this setup mistake in terms of
your levels of your body causes so many
issues there's one more set mistake I
want to talk about then we'll talk about
the fixes the routines you can get into
to make sure you address the ball
perfectly every time to allow your swing
to develop in the correct way and I'll
give you two routines one more complex
and one you can try and use on the golf
course and kind of get ready to hit
shots very quickly with it the other set
mistake I tend to see is when people
address the golf ball this right arm
tends to be on top of the left arm
causing the shoulder alignment to be
open and also then from that position
either making the club get picked up or
causing a lot of forearm and wrist roll
in the takeaway to try and get the golf
club back on its correct Arc so we want
to give ourselves as much chance as we
possibly can of getting the club back on
the right Arc and turning behind the
golf ball to allow the sequence of the
down swing to be automatic it's really
hard to try and change down swings in
golf but to change a back swing is
something that we could all do and we
can even do this consciously by trying
to stand the right way or start the
swing the right way that is something
we've got a far bigger chance of making
a change to immediately and longterm to
make us play better golf okay so the fix
the first thing I want you to do is take
the club Put it across your groin
roughly about halfway down down your
pockets stick your
thumbs into your sides this is where
we're going to try and feel like we Bend
from then from there stand as tall as
you can neck everything tall bend over
that club till you feel you're about to
topple when you feel you're about to
topple just Flex those knees and cover a
couple of shoelaces the last thing I
want you to do and this is the important
thing really for this I want you to feel
like your left hand goes towards
Target and goes up a fraction
keep the head in the same location if
you can what this does is starts to set
the spine and the hip levels so the hip
levels and the lower part of the spine
here get straight and aligned to allow
the body to be able to rotate correctly
allow that rib cage to function
correctly when this is short and squash
like we described earlier it doesn't
want to move so what happens then you
get the sway or you get the lack of
rotation when we set this in the right
position we then get the opportunity
then to make a back swing and let the
arms connect to that back swing and find
their natural place without trying to
force positions in the goall
swing so this is the complex way so feet
shoulder width apart toes out stretch
stand as tall as you can bend from this
location Flex his knees hips
forward arms on the club and if anything
right arm just tuck in so we're in that
kind of dumbbell position that would be
how I'd want you to stand to the golf
ball each and every
time that's the best way of allowing
your golf swing to have a Fighting
Chance of moving the correct way now for
the golf course that's going to be far
too much to do so what i' suggest you do
is on the practice area you do that kind
of once every 10 balls for a few weeks
till you get used to how it feels then
adapt a more natural approach on the
Range but on the golf course a natural
approach is what we're going to look to
do straight away so I want you to do is
basically take a rough
stance Stand Tall Club parallel to the
ground Bend and bow from the hips Flex
the knees bump the hips and then from
that position if we can also just tuck
the arm in the touch but from that
position we're then going to
swing and we're going to try and get in
that bend and bow routine and hit the
ball fairly quickly without dwelling on
it while we're playing the golf course
to allow us to have the best chance of
not making the set mistake that kills
your golf that kills distance kills
accuracy and really kills contact as
well so make sure you try this straight
away for instant results
