Hey everyone! Welcome to Homestead Corner. I'm Jenny and today we're going to be whipping up
some oat milk. Oat milk is super easy to make. There are a couple tricks so it's not all slimy
and gross because I the first couple times I made it I was like eww this tastes so weird
but once you get this you know the system down it's really simple and easy to do and what a huge
money saver. Oat milk is between three and seven dollars a container at the store and you can make
it for under a dollar easily 50 cents probably. It's really simple and easy to do and we're only
going to put three ingredients in this and you can do it with just two. We're going to use just
some regular old rolled oats, some water and a little bit of honey just to sweeten it a tiny bit
but you could use a date, you can use monk fruit, you can use any sweetener you want if you want to
put a little bit of sweetener in there and you can even put a dash of cinnamon in if you like.
However you like it you can add little additions to it to spruce it up to meet your fancy which
is great. So this is really such a simple project. We only need a blender for this and we're going to
jump right in and get started. So this literally only takes minutes. We just need our blender. I'm
going to put everything right in the blender because you know hey make it easy and I'm going
to add one cup of rolled oats. You know what does one cup of rolled oats cost? I don't know maybe 50
cents about that maybe a little less depending on what you pay for your oats but and we're also
going to add four to six cups of water. I've got about five cups here and we're just going to pour
that right in and I'm going to pour some on the floor because you know you're going to make a mess
somehow and we're just going to put that right in there. We got our five cups of water and you
could do four to six you know figure out what works for you definitely and then if you'd like
to add any kind of sweetener if you want to put a date in here or you know whatever sweetener you
like I'm just going to put a tablespoon of honey because that is plenty for us. So we're just going
to slip in a little bit of honey in here just so it's got a little sweet but not too much
and again you could add a little bit of cinnamon to this if you like a little taste of cinnamon
maybe a quarter teaspoon to a half teaspoon or whatever you like in there. You could even add
a little bit of vanilla if you like that and then we're just going to blend this up and we want to be
we don't want to take too long with this we only want to blend it for about 30 to 40 seconds
because if you blend it too long you're going to get slime slimy oat milk and that's no good
you don't want that. Yuck it's nasty I can tell you I made it but we're just going to blend this
for about 30 to 40 seconds. Okay once we have it all blended that's the hard part we're just
I'm going to put a nut milk bag in here and I'm going to pour it through the nut milk bag. I like
these because they're really fine and you don't want any of the pieces in this obviously it's
funky when it's textured so we're just going to pop this little cover right off and we're going to
pour this right through our nut milk bag you could use a t-shirt a few layers of cheesecloth
um whatever you have definitely you can use what you got but I love these nut milk bags and I will
link them in the description they're wonderful for making oils and things like that as well we use
them a lot. So we're just going to pour this right through the bag right back into our measuring cup
so it's easy to pour and you do not want to squeeze the bag and I'll say it one more time
do not squeeze the bag because you will get slimy milk that's another trick to this oat milk is you
just want to let it drip on its own and not squeeze it because that makes that makes it all slimy and
weird so we don't like that we don't want slimy milk we want regular milk and I usually just will
flip this side kind of push it back side to side and because it kind of fills up on the side there
you can see kind of clogs it up a little bit and that's okay we just want to let this come out on
its own without any squeezing and you can just hang the bag if you have a little hook or something
that works too I've done that I hang my cheese in there I make cheese just to let it get all of
that stuff out and remember don't squeeze and don't over blend because I made some real nasty
oat milk before so we're just going to let that drain all out that's it once it's all strained
out you can put it in a jug and you have got oat milk for whatever you like to use it for
oat milk's great for baking and all sorts of stuff you can use it and you just want to make sure
you're not squeezing or over blending because slimy milk is no good and your oat milk is going
to last in your refrigerator for about five days so you've got plenty of opportunities to use this
up whether you like it in your coffee you want to cook with it eat cereal with it if you can't
afford milk at the store you've got oats you've got oat milk it's really simple and easy to do
it is a great way to save money if you use oat milk all the time this will save you a fortune
and it only takes minutes you can make it up for the whole week it'll be great that's it for today
I hope you enjoyed this video and I hope to see you next time bye
