all right guys bit of an update on the
kayak trailer i had to take the wooden
frame off
see it right there
because after i'd built it and posted
the video i found out that
aluminum and copper are reactive with
each other
and pressure treated wood has copper in
it so you can see it's already started
to uh corrode a little just from like
three weeks on there so
i really appreciate the guys that uh
commented
and notified me about the reaction there
with the copper and the aluminum
so what we're gonna do is i've got some
water seal flex tape
and we're going to put that down to act
as a membrane
along the rails here where the wood
touches
so i'm going to go
research how we need to clean this
aluminum before we do it and then uh
we'll get started
okay
uh we've used dish soap
to rub on it
that didn't make much of a difference so
i looked it up and you do a mixture of
water and white vinegar and then you use
some table salt as an abrasive it's
cleaned it up quite a bit
so
we're gonna rinse that off
real good make sure all the vinegar and
salt's off of there and then we're gonna
dry it completely and then we're gonna
put on the water seal flex tape
all right this is what we got to coat it
with
uh
it should create a barrier that won't
allow the copper to get through to the
aluminum and we should be fine after
that
all right see i got it
on the back too right now
so two more and then we can start
putting it back together
all right i got it all taped up uh you
can see each one's covered i hope you
see it on the video
uh just put little slits right here so
the bolts will slide through
and then on these edges here
i put a little overlap piece
so in case that when it rains or that
wood seeps a little it doesn't sneak
down into that crack of the aluminum
there so i did that
on all of them
so we're gonna get the uh
frame back on here get it bolted down
and
see how it works
nice and easy
all right
okay
start dropping bolts through
see got it lined up
and see how that protects it right there
so
i get it all bolted back down
all right
got everything back on
see our little
protections right like here are in place
got a barrier now between the pressure
treated wood and all the aluminum
hopefully this will take care of the
problem won't have to worry about that
anymore
and the next thing i got to do is
carpet
the pvc
and either cap or smooth off the ends so
this doesn't dig into the plastic on
your kayak
