Greetings food surfers, it's Eric Surf 6. Welcome to the Eric Meal Time Show. In today's episode
we are doing a cherry blossoms and street foods festival. Unfortunately the cherry blossoms aren't
really happening yet. Maybe we can find some somewhere. Does that count? But what we're
this is called or butter and potato, baked potato. It's a street festival treat.
Oh it's buttery. Nice fluffy potato too. Very warming and soothing on a cold day today.
Oh that's good. Try a little bit of green tea. Yes we shall. All right we've got some seafood here.
Check out these scallops. Barbecue scallops. Nice.
Oh heavenly. I think that's the best way to eat scallops. Yep fresh off the barbecue. Yeah
and they've got a shrimp here as well too. Gorgeous looking. Peel it.
Tasty. And this is the okonomiyaki. The savory pancake. Beautiful looking. It's got sauce on it.
It's got mayonnaise. It's got an egg on top. Beautiful. Lots of ingredients.
Oh yeah. All kinds of flavors going on here. It's topped with the bonito flakes. There's cabbage in
here. It's got a really nice batter. It's a savory pancake. Nice crunchiness to the cabbage.
Adds a good texture to it. What else is in here? I don't know but it's delicious.
That's pretty tasty. Got a sweetness to it.
It's a juicy sausage. Wow that's good. One more bite.
Oh my. Also got some takoyaki here. Takoyaki or octopus balls. Octopus dumplings.
It's got some pickled ginger on top. Oh yeah.
Got the little piece of octopus just at the very end now. It's delicious though. The batter's
nice and soft. Barely cooked on the inside.
And then you've got this kind of crunchy shell on the outside.
And the pickled ginger gives it a tartness. There's a lovely sauce on it.
This tonkatsu sauce. And then the bonito flakes on top.
Oh yum. And here's the location reveal. Kawazu station. Yeah that's the spot.
So you can see all the trees lined on the side of the river here but there's no blossoms. Yeah.
Oh well. Check out this aloe. It's blooming. Look at that. Gorgeous.
Cherry blossoms? Not so much so.
Hey I think these are some of the best cherry blossoms of the whole festival right here.
Yeah this is a jackpot. This is the best tree actually. Should we eat right here? Yes we shall.
All right so this next street food is called kamaboko.
And it's a fish cake. It's got asparagus and it's wrapped in bacon. Oh yes. It's mighty
delicious looking. But is it delicious?
Mmm.
It has the texture of an eraser and it's sweet.
And yeah it wasn't what I was thinking it was going to be. But oh lots of bacon on that bite.
Pretty nice. As for the asparagus you don't get much. Just little strands.
The main ingredient is the fish cake. It's good though. We've got a sweet here. This is called
daifuku. It's got the strawberry in it. It's wrapped in a matcha. It's a pounded rice. A sweet rice.
Oh it's a juicy strawberry. And it's got the anko sweet bean paste inside. Nice.
What a great dessert. Oh it's good.
All right next up is the roasted chestnuts. Classic Japanese style roasted chestnuts.
They're really hot. Oh boy they're hot. See the steam coming off them? I'm blowing them for a second.
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Delish. Beautiful looking isn't it? Okay so that's gonna do it for this one.
On my rating scale between one and six of the Eric heads today I think I'm gonna go
oh where are we gonna go? Let's do five out of six.
I love Kawazu. That's the name of the town way down here in the Izu peninsula. It's about two
hours away from Tokyo. Definitely is a happening event. This is a weekday and there's a lot of
people. But I came a little bit too early for the cherry blossoms. Oh well. The food though
was banging. I really enjoyed it. I hope you guys enjoyed it and we'll see you in the next one.
