Movers & Shakers | Barn Owl Trials Of Life | HD Nature and Wildlife

A female barn owl. In the morning sunlight, she flies low looking for voles. She sees one, hanging in midair with that laser focus. Occasionally a less energetic approach is required. She roosts with a good vantage point for any movement in the tussocks below. Systematically quartering a field with low level flying, hovering and stooping 8-10 times can take it out of a barn owl so they regularly find a post to roost and to rest and keep an eye open. Then it's off again, this time to the embankment. Success at last, but a red kite tries to steal the prize. She's exposed and at risk, but she waits for the kites to disappear. Squabbling amongst themselves, they depart the area and our owl is able to finally get her breakfast meal. Rodent consumed, it's back into the air and time to look for the next meal. Nature can be brutal, imagine having to find every meal and when you do, there's two people waiting to steal it right from you. She's a survivor and she'll feed up and get ready for the chicks to arrive in the next couple of months.
