East Timor (Timor Leste), a country many people have never heard of. It's Asia's newest and least visited country. Founded in 2002 the country is situated on the eastern part of Timor Island, whereas the western part belongs to Indonesia. After 400 years of Portuguese colonialization, East Timor became part of Indonesia in 1975. After a horrendous independence war the country eventually became independent in 2002, becoming Asia's youngest country. East Timor is a tropical paradise embedded between Sulawesi island in the north and Australia in the south. The country is one of the poorest nations in Asia as well as one of the most untouched and secretive countries in the region.
I am travelling to the capital city of Dili, and explore the bustling streets and surroundings of the city. I meet some of the most heartwarming and welcoming people on this remote island 🇹🇱 Join me on this touching adventure on the brink of the Timor Sea in Asia's youngest and most mysterious country 🎬
Pindida. Pindida. Pindida. And you?
Malita. Malita.
Jen.
Nice meeting you.
Bye.
Bye-bye.
Good morning everyone. Welcome back to the channel.
Today Flo and I, we are going to...
The least visited country in Asia.
And... or among the least visited countries.
And it's also the newest country in Asia.
And we are just here in front of the airline check-in desk.
So, maybe to give you a hint.
Aerodili.
I'm now in front of the plane of Aerodili.
Which is also one of the youngest airlines in Asia.
And it actually only operates three planes.
Of which only one is a jet engine plane.
And that's the A320.
Bye-bye.
There are actually more passengers than I thought in the plane.
I thought it might be quite empty.
But I think about 30 or 40 is seated.
Timor-Leste is also called East Timor.
Once ruled by Portugal and Indonesia.
It gained its independence in 2002.
Becoming the youngest Asia country.
Timor-Leste uses US dollar as currency.
So we exchanged some dollars in advance.
The air service is simple.
Soon the food is served.
In the seat back, there is no product brochure.
But only a leaflet of invocation that covers all major religions.
Although Bali and Timor-Leste are on the same latitude.
The landscape seems different.
Southern Bali is covered by thick jungle.
While the coast of Dili is drier.
With grassland stopped by widely spaced trees.
The typical tropical savannah landscape.
East Timor is multilingual.
Apart from the official language Teton and Portuguese.
Many other languages are also spoken.
And Bahasa Indonesia?
So everyone speaks three languages?
It's a small country, but we can speak all.
But I can speak Portuguese, Bahasa, Indonesian, English.
If you go out, you will see.
We will find out.
How about East Timor?
President Nicola Lobato.
That's our first president.
First president.
In 1975.
But he's dead already.
Killed by Indonesian military.
In the past, East Timor and Indonesia were fighting.
At this reception desk,
Flo is visa free.
But I have to get a visa on arrival for 30 dollars.
But it's not very complicated.
I just gave her my passport.
Thank you.
It's 15.
So now we're getting a taxi from the airport to the city.
It's the only means of transportation.
And it costs 15 dollars, which isn't so cheap.
We also got the same card for 10 days.
Also 15.
It seems that everything here is a little bit more expensive
compared with that in Indonesia.
East Timor is still a developing country.
And it's perhaps the least developed country in Southeast Asia.
And you can really feel that.
So our taxi doesn't have air conditioning.
And it's quite broken.
And the whole capital city looks like a big town.
There are very very few high rises.
Thank you.
So this is our hotel.
Hello.
Just write your name, check in today, check out and your sign.
Okay.
Just one.
Just one?
Yeah.
That's mine, yeah.
We paid 30 US dollars per day.
But it seems that we are the only tourists here.
We might have the whole house.
So this is the toilet.
It looks quite vintage, I have to say.
And we even have a kitchen here.
With all those glasses and wooden furnitures.
And finally the bedroom.
It's very well air conditioned.
2 dollars for, 6 dollars for helmet.
And 3 dollars for pickup delivery.
165, 69.
We rent a dirt bike to get around.
Because we are unsure of the road condition,
a dirt bike is more suitable for any off-road adventure.
In front.
Ah, I see, I see, I see.
Okay, I understand.
And then, the light.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
On, and...
The next morning was very sunny.
And we started with a ride in the city.
Our hotel is an area where many embassies locate.
With quite an amazing ocean view.
And then we drove to a busy market street.
We have tofu and then tempeh, tomato, potato.
And this looks very interesting.
I guess this is dried betel nut.
This is what you eat together with betel nut, I guess.
Excuse me, may I ask, what is this?
Ah, tempeh.
Atupa.
For food?
This is called atupa.
Although Dili is the capital, there are many roads that are unpaved.
So, after the market, I think now we are driving towards the residential area.
The most beautiful part of East Timor is not in the city.
As we drove out of Dili, the coastline turned out untouched and crystal blue.
As soon as we drive away from the capital city, Dili, we see the beauty of East Timor.
The nature is just so beautiful.
The sea is crystal clean.
Hey, crystal ray, stairs?
There?
Crystal ray?
Okay, okay.
And up?
Ah.
There?
Okay, okay.
Thank you.
Obrigado.
Crystal ray?
You want to go up?
Yes.
You just go this way, then you see the left side.
There is a Buddhist temple there.
Okay, so I go there?
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay, thank you.
Thanks.
Hello.
Ah, dear, wait, let me park in the shade, maybe.
Okay, you can get off there.
Hello.
China.
Chinese.
Yes.
Good, good.
English?
Yes, English.
Ah, it's your birthday.
Yes.
So we are coming here to celebrate one of our friends' birthday.
Okay.
So he won't come and join us.
Hello.
Whose birthday?
That lady.
Ah, happy birthday.
Today is my birthday.
What is your name?
Yeah?
What is your name?
My name is Sima.
Nice to meet you.
Happy birthday.
Hello.
His name is Dere.
Dere.
How do you feel the first time you came to Russia?
It's really cool.
It's very beautiful.
Like this coastal area, so beautiful.
So when you go there, you have to take care of food.
Okay, yeah.
Because nowadays it's rainy season.
Ah, it's the rainy season now.
And it rains like every day.
Every day.
Are you all from Tbilisi?
No.
We are coming from different districts.
Can I try a little bit of fish?
Too much.
Too much?
Just try it.
Thanks.
It's good.
No, no tattoo.
Mister, mister.
This is Ade.
His name is...
From...
Spain.
Do you know Bogo?
Bogo?
Where is it?
Is it in a...
Is it a big city or a small...
It's a big city.
Also a big city.
This is rice, I know.
Rice, rice.
Rice.
This is Ayam Kelen.
Ayam.
Ayam Kelen.
Okay.
Grilled chicken.
Oh, chicken.
Yes, ayam.

Grilled, grilled chicken.
Grilled chicken.
