2025 Regular Session - Day 29 - Citation, Rep. Gooch

Thank you Mr. Speaker. I'm honored today to recognize the Mansfield Community College upon having been named the worthy recipient of the 2025 Bellwether Award. It's one of the most prestigious and competitive national honors a college can receive and one which recognizes innovation and impactful programs that drive student success and economic growth. The college earned the distinction in the workforce development category and was honored for such at the Community College Futures Assembly in San Antonio, Texas. This is an award for having developed at the former Dotyki coal mine site. It was the last coal mines that was closed down in Webster County a few years ago and they saw an opportunity to purchase that land and offer classes in Webster County the first time ever for programs such as the Lyman program to make sure that we are training people to maintain our electrical grid and our electric distribution system and also to train CDL drivers and so we're very proud of the impact they have had in Webster County and with that Mr. Speaker I move for adoption.
