Mone CHIBA (JPN) | Women Free Skating | ISU World Championships | Boston 2025

Well, she's never been on the podium at the World Championships, but she goes into this lying in second place. She's got to be right on her game here. She was in the short. Can she do it again here? Mone Chiba. One jump to go, and she makes it. The triple flip. Well, again, all around this TD Gardens, people on their feet applauding what was just a masterclass. She has incredible skating skills, and on the night, her technique was a match. There are going to be a couple of calls, I think, from the technical panel, but it was a beautiful performance from Mone Chiba. Remember, she's a skater who was scared of skating in front of a big crowd, and 19,500 people got behind her here, and she was able to use that in a positive way. She sure was. We just saw her opening combination, triple flip, triple toe, huge positive grade of execution. Here, the triple lutz, double axel sequence in the second half, and her triple lutz, double toe, double loop combination. The technical panel has reviewed it. The triple lutz is under-rotated in the system. Beautiful level four spins and steps. She has such a sensitivity to the choreography and the movement, mixed with such technical prowess. She really is a special skater to watch. Yeah, there's no doubt about it. Well, her season's best score is 141.04, and I don't think she skated any better than that this season. If she can do that, she'll be in second place behind Kaori. Yep, 141.80. It is second place. It's a season's best score, and that will put her into second place overall. It is a Japan 1-2 with one to go.
