There is the last woman standing, still standing in the Champions League.
It was a surprise announcement for the ladies at the start of that tournament.
They already knew they were playing for some good prize money and more importantly an
ultimate pool trophy and a fair amount of fun that weekend. But the introduction of a wild
a few eyes on it. It's Megan Proctor who is going to get the taste of it.
Yeah, good break but messy layout here. Those two reds above the yellow are difficult.
Trying to leave the, that would just be a loss of turn, trying to leave the red at the top of
the table. I think it went in right centre but leave it up there so it was a breakable.
So taking on the harder pot down the table and just came straight across it digging down.
You make a good break and you're just hoping for that layout where you can
really take them on but that wasn't one of those.
John's first shot as an ultimate pool player is going to be using the rest.
You've got pretty long odds on that. Same problem though.
Oh, doing the developing work with the rest. That is phenomenal.
That's a pretty good shot that. Yeah, it may not have opened up them both
but it's opened them up enough to be able to do it next shot.
Yeah, that's a phenomenal dig from John Chambers.
That'll do. Yeah, it doesn't even matter that it's stuck a little bit because that red still goes.
I think he would have preferred to be on it as the cube will just come a little bit lower
to play it straight away but it shouldn't really pose too much of a problem.
You can get to the right hand side of it or target the yellow but probably the right hand side.
Not a massive amount of room for the red left center and it's not a good last ball
for eight ball because it doesn't go bottom right.
So if John is thinking if he's straight enough here to come left center next
then it's probably a good choice.
I think I'd like the red nearest the top right hand corner as my last ball
if he can make that happen.
I may have to go up for that one now and then leave the one by his hand last
but just knew it couldn't be this one.
I think he's a bit straight.
I think he's come an extra two three rolls past where he wanted to be.
So easy to try and force this and not come anywhere near far enough down the table.
Actually did too well.
I'm surprised how easy he got so far down the table off that angle.
I think it might have surprised John as well.
I'll take the red for a ride.
Well what an opportunity this is for Mag to start the night.
Delicate drop in the center and then pretty wide open.
Oh she can see the yellow to right center then there isn't delicate.
It's all there.
Very nice.
Yeah this is one of those where it's just full-on hold yourself together time for Megan Proctor.
Nothing in the way.
She's an excellent single ball potter.
Just get the job done.
Probably helps a little bit that by her admission she didn't even know John was before tonight.
Her first match is essentially a complete unknown quantity.
She doesn't have to think too much about it.
It's just another game really.
A bit of a twixt in between.
Floating this in trying to hold with side if you go bottom right or a thin clip.
I think she made a mistake not leaving the cue ball closer to the left cushion on the previous shot.
Easier to come around two cushions and almost target the eight ball.
Having to play that screw shot it's so easy to under over hit and just slightly under.
Played that pretty well.
Just tracked a couple of rolls too far up the table but there's still clips.
Yeah a pretty natural position onto the eight ball too.
Lovely.
Just dotting the i's and crossing the t's.
There's the first frame for Megan Proctor.
You never quite settle till you get your first frame on the board.
That is the perfect start for the Meg.
Yeah John gave her that chance and he'll be kicking himself.
He picked a good route you know with what he had.
He had to do the developing early.
Once he got them all open you know he would like to have got rid of the one that
was by the yellow before the one at the top of the table.
But the way they were laid out he probably couldn't.
Yeah maybe because if he gets the cannon slightly differently
he gets that one out the way and then there is no problems whatsoever.
Even the shot he played it's like he plays a really good shot.
It's ran maybe half a roll too far.
It's extreme.
I agree with you but I think the shot before he overhit where he didn't need to.
As well where he could have made it really comfortable for himself.
It's kind of yeah a little bit unfortunate on the back of you know
maybe a slightly loose positional shot.
Speaking of breaks by the way.
Pretty good one.
Yeah.
This is a nice layout.
This is a lovely layout.
We mentioned earlier in the in the first match didn't we about how
frames tend to have a really weird habit of multiplying
and mistakes tend to cost you two sometimes frames rather than one.
No real rhyme or reason it just seems to be the way.
And the way that that frame went which we made a pretty glaring mistake gave the frame away.
And you're sort of sat in your chair thinking yeah I've been here before this will be dry.
Yeah yeah yeah.
And then he gets a massive break in and gets a pretty A to B to C to D layout.
This is this is simple.
Yeah I would say though that there's a tendency for that to you bring that on yourself in terms
of you sit in your chair thinking oh I'm going to be dry off the back of that and then you don't
quite strike it as well as you can maybe.
You manifest it.
Yeah exactly.
You know I do think there's an element of that.
I know it's a great layout but just played a beautiful pattern.
Just that second shot played with rakes aside.
Get straight in right centre and then from that moment on you know he's won the frame.
He knew at that moment he couldn't not clear up.
Yeah perfect visit from John Chambers.
Very very good.
That's a little bit more like it he'll be thinking.
Been around the black ball scene a lot of late.
It's not like he's not been playing pool at all.
A now former England international with the black ball side of things.
Won a doubles title as well in that tournament for the back end of the year with his brother.
And you know he's been keeping the cue arm going.
Yeah and his brother's been given a wild card as well.
We'll see him in a few weeks.
Looking forward to seeing him role play as well.
I'm looking forward to the day when they play each other.
Yeah yeah it will happen.
Of course he's unlucky not to make a ball.
Really unlucky there Megan.
It's actually a really nice break.
It was a little timid but but flushed.
You just don't need it to be more.
Yeah but certainly worked out a few jaws out there.
One yellow went and hit I think four of them you know.
But look at the layout again you know it's another really nice opportunity here for John Chambers.
Megan the painful bit of this one is she's looking and seeing this was my layout.
Yeah a couple of things just to work out.
Does the yellow to the right of the cue ball now pass to right centre?
Probably not.
I wonder if he's giving some consideration taking the yellow bottom right.
And moving the red above it to maybe open up that yellow.
Would he stay on the yellow to left centre if he does that?
Probably.
Yeah just tries to screw into it and get some movement going.
Hasn't necessarily made it much better.
If anything maybe a touch worse.
Yeah it still definitely doesn't go to right centre and it does have some pockets.
It's just tricky to land on it's pretty well guarded.
Do you try and play on it now where you've got backup plans?
You try and come down the right hand side and get on it bottom left.
I think you have to.
No decides to go.
Well if he can play this yellow off the red then that just opens up the pocket for right centre.
That would do the job and he can play that shot from here.
And he has just just missed the first red and flick it in off the red nearest the pocket.
It's tight but it looks on.
It looks really tight.
I see he's going another way so it can't do.
You would play it from here if that was on you really would.
So he's got some problems here he's fully in trouble.
Yeah try to go back into it again and back in a bit of bother.
You can go cushion first on the yellow maybe to top left but you're reaching.
Reaching in a major way.
Well what's he seen?
High tariff that one.
Yeah that was creative but again not gonna be.
And his breaking run was incredibly impressive.
But the two chances that he's had off the Megan Proctor break he's broken down.
That looked a better layout than it was when you started to you know
because everything was such an even split of the table.
It looked like it should just be a case of picking this one off.
But there was two yellows there in the middle that were just awkward enough
and he couldn't work them out.
Really disappointed visit to the table for John.
Slightly tougher counter though for Meg this time.
Especially the first shot in the counter.
This is delicate and leaving the yellows wide open.
Puts more pressure on when that's the case it really does.
That's off for John.
Is that far enough?
Dead straight's not great.
Needs a couple of turns of angle.
Playing it quickly so must have it.
Didn't have much mind.
Excellent shot.
Lasered that into the middle didn't he to generate that sort of movement.
Really had to cue that well.
Did so.
Excellent shot.
Fires in the eight ball.
2-1 lead John Chambers.
Just looks slightly confused.
I don't think he's quite got to grips with the cue ball so far.
Which you know might be expected.
It is a little bit slightly new to him of course.
Very easy to forget.
You know we talk about it all the time.
Don't talk about it as much in the Champions League.
But when we've got the pairs and the mixed pairs and we've seen
players in there who've never played in that arena before.
We talk about how different the conditions are.
But you know these are players who might be without a tournament
in these conditions for a little while.
Obviously Meg doesn't have that excuse.
She was here only a couple of weekends ago.
Albeit only played about 20 minutes.
That's true.
I don't think it's a stage.
I think it's actually John will thrive in these sorts of environments.
You mean the equipment more than anything else rather than the actual arena.
Do know he gets to practice on one of these tables in the club he plays in.
Dave Gilbert's club.
It's a Burton boy.
John Chambers.
It's an interesting layout.
There's a decision to be made here.
Yeah.
Do you take these on?
I suppose it depends if you can get to the left hand side of the yellow top right.
You can deal with these three at the top.
I would stop it dead.
I don't know how you deal with the other yellow.
That's the problem.
Oh he does try to get to the left hand side.
Forced it.
Actually probably may have gone just a little bit too far across.
I was thinking you needed to be half the distance so that you can come on and off the top cushion.
You've got room to manoeuvre.
You can play on the yellow.
You can move the yellow.
Has he got enough angle to do that?
Not a particularly massive gap to hit that.
He's played a lovely shot.
Particularly as he's struggled with his cue ball so far.
He couldn't get close to his next yellow though.
Just sometimes all you can do is give yourself a shot at it.
Knew he couldn't get close so he's done just that.
But in his own mind this shot wins the frame.
The next two shots if this goes in should be routine.
Well I say should be.
Has he gone just that turn too far?
Or can he just stop this in dead?
I'm almost certain if it stops two turns less he's out already.
He has just got a hair of angle to play into it.
It's all of a sudden eight ball to be made.
Yeah these are tough.
You can't.
It's so hard to pick out the bottom angle.
Looking at top left.
Nowhere near it.
Oh a little bit fortunate there.
No scrap that.
Very fortunate there.
This eight blocks the red.
But it blocks the red that's your breaker ball for the two reds on the top cushion as well.
Obviously there's two breaker balls there.
But it's just going to slow Meg down.
And at a time where there's not much room to play with on the clock.
Yeah 15 second shot clock.
Not using your extension there.
Bottom right.
Yeah that's what I was thinking.
He's lining it up.
Still some shot mind.
It wasn't a million miles away.
Again that's.
I'm not going to say it's fortunate because it could have landed anywhere.
But it would have been.
It could have been easier for Megan to counter here.
A lot depends on how easy the plant is for me.
Can you make the plant on the reds?
And therefore you don't need to move them.
And then you could probably connect these together quite nicely.
Especially it depends where the red goes when you play the plant.
Does it just pop off the cushion enough?
It pops off.
It's lovely.
Then you can play this one.
Play the plant.
And then you've got bottom left with the ball over the pocket essentially.
Could be much nicer on the plant.
Yeah.
Probably too close to it if anything.
Yeah would have been better just to be a bit further away.
It's close to your work.
Delicate one.
But it worked out all right.
Meg's turned to be lucky there.
Yeah I don't know if the 8 ball squeezes up to the top left here.
So it might have been a case of she was never leaving it anyway.
Cheeky loss of turn.
But cue ball in hand for Megan Proctor to tie things up with two minutes to play.
And a bit of change.
Don't leave the cue ball straight.
The red's over the pocket.
It's just how good do you get on the 8 ball.
I'd like to have got a lot closer to the red at the bottom of the table.
I know she's going to get a good shot at it.
Just get right behind it and make it unmissable.
Yeah that wasn't a bad shot.
I mean obviously she's been very very fortunate.
Just played on it for right centre which I really respect.
She's got the next break as well.
There's time here.
Dab this one in.
Oh it just falls.
Megan Proctor gets away with one.
Just got a little bit of extra juice into that final red.
And therefore had to make a very very good 8 ball.
Just.
I know it sounds silly there.
But you've got ball in hand, three balls on the table.
And you know you're going to deal with the top two first.
And the one over bottom left becomes your last ball.
So where do you want to be to guarantee getting good position on the 8 ball.
And not where she left it.
You know you would have wanted to be.
Whether you wanted to leave it to screw straight back.
Whether you wanted to use a cushion.
Whatever you wanted to do there.
You wanted to be closer.
And there was no need to get straight on that one at the top.
Just leave it you know half ball.
Maybe a little bit more than that.
But yeah.
It worked anyway.
One minute and 36 seconds remaining.
2-2 in match two.
On group four of the Champions League.
8 ball.
That 8 ball was tracking.
Oh my.
Not a nice layout for a quick finish though.
No but can you have a little dab at these yellows?
I think you probably can.
I don't think Megan agrees with you.
We've got the yellow bottom left.
I think you can open up the yellows top right.
It wouldn't be the play if we had no match clock.
But I think it's worth a dip here.
Delicate first shot.
Yeah.
I'd be tempted to.
I'd be tempted not to take this one now.
I'd be tempted to come down the table.
The reason I'm thinking down the table is the one she just played could have been the breaker.
Could have used that.
Gone into it and fired in with two or three balls left.
You know because of the clock situation.
On this yellow.
She can screw into it.
Yeah the one.
Screw in if you miss the yellow hit the red that would be okay as well.
That will do.
This is on.
23 seconds for Megan Proctor and all of a sudden she can smell it.
Yeah.
Haven't got time to look.
You haven't got time to look.
12 seconds.
Megan Proctor is going to be very close here.
Great shot.
Just needs to hit it before the gong.
No.
I think that's a foul.
I think she's in trouble here.
Well it is the match over but we will find out what the result is in a moment.
That was so so tight for Megan Proctor making the buzzer beater.
Oh who would be a referee?
We will show you this one because this was close.
I've got the soft signal Stephen and it's the same as we felt here that this is a this is a foul.
Keep the eye on the spots on the cue ball.
Yeah I mean it's pretty clear that is going to be gut-wrenching for Meg.
It really is so so close to a buzzer beater but not to be for Megan Proctor.
And the worst part is it's because that happened in the time and she made the eight ball.
She doesn't just not win the match she also commits the foul to lose the match.
It's tough.
It really is.
You've got to feel for a great effort at the buzzer beater.
Maybe just that look around the table cost of the time and yeah feel for it.
Wow what an ending.
More matches on the way in a moment.
