Karate or MMA, which one wins in the street? The secret history of jiu-jitsu they don't
want you to know. Did you know that black belts originated from white belts getting dirty?
Spoiler alert, they actually don't. That's just a myth.
Welcome to the Art of One Dojo, our little corner of the internet, the series of a home base for
those of you who are lifelong martial artists, hobbyists, or just someone looking to get into
the arts. There are so many different martial arts styles out there, each one with their own
unique flavor, and we believe that every single one of them has something valuable to offer,
even the hardened martial art master. I'm Dan, and my martial arts journey began at the age of 14
when I first joined an American Kenpo school. It opened up a whole new world for a kid who
grew up watching the Karate Kid and Ninja Turtles. For more than 30 years, I have devoted myself to
the martial arts, learning various forms of Kenpo, branched out into judo, jiu-jitsu,
and tip of the toe in MMA. I've met a lot of incredible people, interviewed some of the
biggest martial arts legends, and I've experienced a lot of opposing views, which has only helped me
grow as an artist. So if you are interested in martial arts history or practical application
of techniques and challenging what you think you know about the arts, then you might feel at home
here. There is no shortage of martial arts channels on YouTube. So why Art of One Dojo?
What makes us different? Well, first, we have a distinct perspective. You know, I'm coming from
a Kenpoist point of view, so my background is Kenpo, and this means an analytical and detailed
approach. I love hearing opposing views and exploring ways to reconcile them. Secondly,
most YouTube channels are all about producing content. We focus on context. Content is great.
Context is everything. Remember that first question about which one's better in the street
fight, karate, or MMA? The answer is both. On paper, any art can be any art, but the truth
lies in the context of any given scenario, and we think you'll have a lot of fun with some of
our breakdowns. We cut through the myths and we give you realistic and objective presentations,
and we strive to bridge that gap between traditional and modern practitioners because
there's more common ground than either side realizes. So if you love the martial arts,
then please, I invite you to kick off your shoes and join us here on the mat. Click here to get
started with one of our deep dives, or here to have some fun with some of our lighter fare.
We are all a collective Art of One people, so welcome to the dojo.
