1 Video View·Apr 9, 2025 #13 Little Wonder Waterfall: Exploring Ontario’s Waterfalls Episode #13
The past of Little Wonder Falls, of course predates history - standing upon a landscape visited by God's creatures dating back eons.
Long before the arrival of the Whites, it was often a favorite location with the aboriginals who gathered there for spiritual assemblies - and because of that significance to them, created there a native burial ground.
The original settler surveyor designated the site on the village plot as being the Reserve for Mill - and my the wife of the current owners grandfather operated there the Little Wonder Mill which initially made Little Wonder Flour.

Later the mill became a basket factory, that during the Great Depression as bought out, and idled, to prevent competition.
Natives continued to visit the site. A recorded history of a century ago relates that in their tradition, "one of the great treasures of the earth will be discovered there."
When the property came into the possession of the current owner he had the surveyor rename it on the map - Bahji du Canada, as the site for the
Universal Language Institute.
Later, when his son Bahji was killed in a sledding accident in the village, he obtained permission from the native chiefs and the Ontario Provincial Government to create a burial ground adjacent to the native burial sites and Bahji's memorial was created there.
A large red stone was moved there and dedicated in a Sweet Grass ceremony by the Chairman of the Southern Metis - and thus there remains entwined
the natural geographic beauty, the history of the native peoples, and its destiny to become the source of "one of the great treasures of the earth."
This waterfall is located on private property, however access and permission is possible should you know who to contact, how to contact him and what may be asked of you to obtain such permission.
If you are able to contact the owner, there is a strong chance you will have to put in a good few hours of manual labour to pay for your trip to the waterfall, but it is very well worth it.

stages okay so I've gone the opposite
way and looks like I have to go down and
Away to get down and close and then walk
back towards the
waterfall hopefully that's what it looks
like let's just hope hope and
see okay changing plans seems to be
a uh staircase with a rope secured to
get down right here rope is
secure got stairs and rope to hold on to
so I am going to put the camera away and
it'll be an easier walk for me if I can
use both
hands
so let's see I don't know
that's cool there's a rope on lots of
rope hope these stairs are going to hold
up
guys okay so far so
good had a broken step right
here this is going to be a sketchy walk
down guys no doubt about that okay I'm
going to kill the camera guys and uh
make my way down safely see you down
there okay guys so this was not an easy
one to get to Now by no means was this
as difficult as
um Eugenia Falls but this one is
difficult because it's way off the
beaten path being on private property
there's no easy way down so where I am
now guys is I'm quite a ways away from
the waterfall uh but there is a pretty
steady stream and Rapids that kind of
flow Downstream so what I'm going to do
here guys is put the GoPro on my head
and I'll film the walk up and hopefully
uh hopefully we make it pretty rough
terrain so here we
go wow beautiful
oh I don't know guys I don't know if
there's a trail that I can follow
here I'd love to have this in my
backyard
all
right I might just have to bite it guys
and take the water up looks that much
easier the feet are already wet anyway
so what does it matter
here we
go tree in the way
[Applause]
this
[Applause]
back into the drink
oh made it guys
okay
guys we made it let's
go look at the off
[Music]
okay guys so now I'm on the left hand
side of the waterfall in this uh Cave
looking area lot of moss
here's that big pipe from the original
Mill very rust and worn
away pretty cool though that that's
still
here so green back here I love
it head on up here it's pretty Mucky but
uh
really nice uh spring coming through the
Rocks here show you so from way back in
behind the Rocks back
there very steady stream of
water another one of those crazy
trees how do they do that so
neat there all kinds of water that LE
through the
Rocks causing all that green
moss I really like
that let's look at this one
oh the sun just came out that was
amazing the sun hit the
waterfall the community of Horning's
Mills dates back to 1830 when Lewis
horning bought a sawmill in Grist Mill
on the Pine River the excellent water
power in this region attracted other
Pioneer Industries and by the close of
the century a flourishing Village was in
evidence the William a mill at Hornings
Mills was leased by John a ples of
Kimberly Ontario in
1867 the pen stock of the mill can still
be seen on the far side of the waterfall
to this day the Pine River arises in the
area within a series of wetlands the
river flows Eastward through a rolling
agricultural landscape into horning
Mills at times flowing underground
before reemerging as Cold Springs
further
Downstream at Hornings Mills the river
Cascades over the Mill Pond and enters
the extensive forest and steep slopes
associated with the nagr garden
okay guys so here's what we're going to
do I just wrapped up uh my video I took
my pictures so now I'm going to take my
drone I'm going to fly my drone up in
the air and I'll show you guys what this
waterfall looks like from different
perspectives using my drone then I'm
going to make my way out and try and
find an easier way out of here it
doesn't require me to walk through the
Rapids I think this side might actually
have an easy your Trail up so stay tuned
for the Drone video and then I'll see
you guys and we'll take a hike through
and hopefully get out of here in one
piece e

now going this way certainly seems to be
more of a trail than on the other side
look at this is a GT racer right here
the heck's that doing down
here
okay so if I wanted to I could
climb up this that would get me up I
don't know how I feel about that though
there's a rope there lots of
footholds I could climb up this or I can
go that way let's just see how I feel
about climbing this guys
okay let's see here
I watch these rocks see this one's loose
lots of stuff to grab onto here
that's only thing is I don't know where
this is going to take me now that I'm up
that okay so here we are there's a fence
up
there
okay I see where I am
okay I know exactly where I
am okay guys we did it that was Hornings
Mills waterfall in horning Mills Ontario
again on private property so if you do
want to check this one out you got to
figure out who owns it and ask
permission I do thought I thought I
should tell you guys in case you guys
noticed this little doohickey here on my
camera bag this thing's called a spot
GPS satellite GPS now this isn't a
sponsored thing this is just something
that I bought that uh for my own safety
so what it is guys is it's a GPS tracker
and it tracks my
movements wherever I am
even if I don't have cell phone coverage
because it's based on satellite so with
if I lose cell phone coverage and I have
to check in with say with my wife then
all I got to do guys is push this button
right here see there a button there with
a check mark on it if I hit that button
with a check
mark That's now going to send a text and
an email to my wife to let her know that
I'm okay and really all it says is hi
it's me just checking in she can't write
back to me and uh it's just so she knows
I'm okay if I'm not in a place with uh
with data this button right here with
the little notepad that is a customized
message and what that one says is uh hi
Jenny I'm all done here I'm making my
way to the next spot so just so she
knows I'm finished at one place and I'm
moving on to the next again she can't
reply to these and I can only customize
the message on my computer and then sync
it with the device and then when I head
out I can tell her do an okay or I'm
done at one place I'm going to the next
and then it sends her a map link so she
can see EX L where I am so guys we're
going to wrap this one up that was a
really good waterfall that was like a
little Slice of Heaven back there it was
like a little Tropical Oasis in the
middle of nowhere so I hope you guys
have liked it and uh link down below for
my photo gallery if you want to check
out the photos and my um my other
waterfall Galleries and uh do me a few
