suitable for lighter-duty applications to larger engines designed for heavy-duty hauling.
Common engine displacements include 9 liters, 13 liters and 16 liters, providing a wide
range of power options to suit different requirements.
Typical power ranges for Scania truck engines span from around 220 horsepower for lighter-duty
applications to over 770 horsepower for heavy-duty and high-performance applications, and is
the only manufacturer that produces V8 engines in Europe.
Next up, we have another Swedish manufacturer, Volvo.
Volvo trucks are equipped with a variety of engine options designed to meet the diverse
needs of truck operators across different applications and industries.
Volvo engines are known for their fuel efficiency, achieved through advanced technologies such
as high-pressure fuel injection, variable geometry turbocharging and intelligent engine
management systems.
Common engine displacements include 9 liters, 11 liters, 13 liters and 16 liters.
However, in 2024, Volvo launched the newly developed D17 engine.
This powerhouse is Volvo's strongest engine yet, boasting a massive 17 liters of displacement
and a staggering 780 horsepower.
It's specifically designed for the most demanding hauling tasks, and re-crowns Volvo as the
strongest engine, providing 10 horsepower more than Scania.
Now let's take a look at MAN Truck and Bus AG, a German manufacturer, produces a range
