We needed to turn large logs for positioning, cutting into bucks, and splitting into firewood. The Woodchuck TimberPro 47” (119 cm) Cant Hook has been a great tool choice. We’ll show you why.

We have a lot of wood to process, as my arborist friend Jason has been dropping off sizable loads to our lot. Anything that makes the job easier, cutting it into bucks or processing it for cutting into timbers and lumber, is welcome!
Like you, we like our purchases to work hard and to last. Based on the reviews and the functionality of the Woodchuck TimberPro Cant Hook-Log Jack 47” (119 cm), we bought one for about $130. This combo tool can be used as a cant hook OR a log jack.
The cant hook grips and turns logs using a movable metal hook that bites into the log. A log jack is a stand that elevates one end of a log, making it easier to cut firewood.
The TimberPro is from Woodchuck Tool. They indicate that you can use this tool to lift and/or roll logs from 5” to 20” (13 - 51 cm). We have found that the teeth on the cant prevent the log from rolling or twisting when we cut lengths for splitting. The tool also has two feet to distribute the weight of the log better, keeping the feet and the handle from readily sinking into moist ground.
The unit is very well made and utilizes powder-coated steel. The handle, brackets, and feet are all made from 6061-T6 aluminum. It’s robust and reduces weight. The cant is made of high-quality powder-coated steel. The cant features a toe lift that lets you remove the hook from the log when repositioning the tool. This reduces the frequency of bending over and associated back stress and strain. The tool weighs 12 lbs./5.44 kg.
While $130 is not cheap, neither is having a helper move logs. This tool has transformed several two-person jobs into ones I can handle singlehandedly.
Since I’m in the U.S.A., I like it when I find products made here, such as the TimberPro. This directly supports our economy, workforce, and industrial base. Even better, the tool comes with a lifetime warranty.
We bought ours from Sheldon Hill Forestry at:

This tool will serve us well for a long time. It is very well made and functions well. The handle is long enough to provide needed leverage, and the entire tool is of moderate weight.
We highly recommend the Woodchuck TimberPro 47”/119 cm Cant Hook - Log Jack, model #891-WCT0X.
Great gear like this helps us JUST DO IT YOURSELF better, faster, and safer!
hey Dirt Farmer Jay here from
dirtfrj.com if you have a wood lot or
just do a reasonable amount of firewood
processing or maybe even a little bit of
milling with a chainsaw mill or a
bandsaw mill you got to consider getting
one of these tools stay tuned and I'll
tell you all about
[Music]
it hey Dirt Farmer J from dirt
farmerj.com not too long ago we bought
one of these Timber Pro Wood chuck tools
these are incredible for working out
around uh moderate size to large size
logs uh to get them turned or stood up
to where you can chainsaw them this is
an incredible tool let me walk you
through some of the features of it and
then where you can get one the first
thing to note is that this unit is made
entirely in the United States since
that's where I live and I have the
opportunity to support our industrial
base I really like the fact that this
tool is made entirely here if you're
another country that may not be as
appealing to you but I always suggest
you try to support your country's
industrial and trade base so that's the
first thing that's appealing to me this
tool is by Woodchuck Tools and I'll give
you where you can get them in the
description below uh but as you can see
right here there's a website for the
tool manufacturer itself and it is
simply at
woodchucktool.com so you can check it
out and they actually have a phone
number there now a couple things you
want to know about this uh piece of
equipment one it is very wellmade so
this is the whole hook system on the
front here is powdercoated steel the fit
and finish is very nice on this unit
here this is allows you to grip over the
edge of a log uh with these points which
are quite sharp gripping on and then
also on the back edge creating a counter
grip so that you can wrench over turn
over um logs if that was the only
function and there was not this foot on
it this would be called a can a c a n t
used a lot in lumber mills where they're
actually cutting uh lumber rolling logs
into position uh processing lumber and
logs that would be a can hook so this is
a combination K and this is a log stand
so what this allows you to do with this
really nice double foot system is to
take a log grip it roll it off the
ground now what's happened is you've
elevated the log enough that you can
safely cut it with a chainsaw without
bending over as far or encountering the
ground as you exit the cut because now
it's elevated a good 6 in off of the
ground another handy feature that
Woodchuck put in this tool is this tab
that you see right here what's that for
it's a toe lift you can lift your foot
right under it get a hold of that and
lift off when you're positioning this
hook uh or needing to uh take it off of
the log when you're getting ready to
take another bite or move it to another
place in the log good thinking huh so
the other components on here are
highgrade aluminum this is uh
6061 T6 aluminum this is not the
inexpensive stuff you get in the big box
store this is heavyduty and this thing
will last a long time there's very
little to tarnish comes with a really
nice rubber grip and this is uh fairly
heavy uh but not so heavy that it wears
you out in the field you can really do
some uh some strong work with it the
tool weighs about 12 lbs for uh our
metric friends that's about 5 1/2 kg uh
so it's not super light uh but it's
commensurate with the gauge of the tool
that you're getting now at the time I
bought this it was about
$130 it's not cheap but I think it's
commensurate with the quality that
you're getting this looks like an
lifetime tool to me if you add one of
these to your arsenal when you're
processing wood in your wood lot I think
you're going to be really happy uh
reduce sore muscles and more safety with
that tip of that chainsaw as it comes
through that log this is a great tool
and if you want to get one check out the
links that we put down below we put at
least a couple sources there take a look
check it out we think you're going to be
very happy it's like paying one time for
a labor that keeps showing up day after
day you're going to enjoy it another
firewood processing tool you should add
is a pickaroon check out this episode
where we show you where you can get one
of these how it works in use and this is
a real labor saver also hey until the
next time this is Dirt Farmer J from
dirtfrj.com thanks for joining me today
