Celebrity Silhouette Caribbean Cruise Review 2018
Celebrity Silhouette is the fourth ship in the Solstice class, her sister ships being Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Reflection. Solstice, Equinox, and Eclipse entered service in 2008, 2009, and 2010, respectively. Silhouette was launched in 2011, and Reflection, the final ship in the Celebrity Solstice series, launched in 2012.
One of the largest islands in the Eastern Caribbean, Puerto Rico’s landscape encompasses mountains, underground caves, coral reefs, white-sand beaches and an incredibly massive rain forest that supplies fresh water to most of the island. At the same time San Juan, the capital of the commonwealth, is a big city with a bustling business district, glitzy resorts and casinos, as well as one of the most stunning examples of colonial life in the Western world.
We booked a walking tour of old San Juan, taking us through the shanty village of La Perla up to Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Felipe del Morro is a 16th Century castle and was designed to guard the entrance to the San Juan Bay, and defend the Spanish colonial port city of San Juan from seaborne enemies. After exploring the castle, we proceeded on through the town to the Ballajá Barracks (or Cuartel de Ballajá in Spanish), a military barracks built from 1854 to 1864 for the Spanish troops established on the island and their families.
We then proceeded through the cobblestone streets to take in the sights, we visited Catedral Metropolitana Basílica de San Juan Bautista. The cathedral is one of the oldest buildings in San Juan, located in Old San Juan, and is the second oldest cathedral in the Americas. The cathedral contains the tomb of the Spanish explorer and settlement founder Juan Ponce de León. It also has a shrine to the Blessed Carlos Manuel Rodríguez Santiago, the first Puerto Rican, the first Caribbean-born layperson in history to be beatified.
From there, we took in the architecture and explored the streets until we made our way back for the ship and looked forward to our next stop which would be St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands
St. Thomas is the gateway island of the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. It’s well known for its beaches and snorkeling spots. Territorial capital Charlotte Amalie was founded by the Danish in the 1600s and is a busy cruise-ship port. Historic buildings include a 1679 watchtower called Blackbeard’s Castle, in reference to the area’s pirate history. The highlight of our visit was having a few hours to relax, soak in the sun and the turquoise waters of Magens Bay.
Magens Bay features a well-protected white sand beach stretching for nearly three quarters of a mile. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island, as well as a gathering place for locals. The beach sits at the head of a deep bay, the arms of which are Peterborg peninsula to the east and Tropaco Point to the west.
We found a nice quiet spot away from the crowd and when we had enough of the sun, we headed over to the Magens Bay Beach Bar, Cafe & Boutique for a few Cold Coronas. Only a few pictures were taken in St Thomas as we spent much of our time sunbathing, swimming and drinking!
Sint Maarten, part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is a country on the southern part of a Caribbean island shared with Saint Martin, a French overseas collectivity. Its natural features span lagoons, beaches and salt pans. The capital, Philipsburg, has cobblestone streets and colorful, colonial-style buildings lining its Front Street shopping area. The port is a popular cruise-ship stop.
Our visit to Sint Maarten was truly eye opening as we were able to see first hand the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma, almost all of the hotels and resorts on the island are still closed and many homes still boarded up and left abandoned. Shockingly, as we passed many bodies of water we could not help but notice all of the abandoned boats, yachts, cars and airplanes left strewn all over the roads and in the water. Slowly, barges have been dismantling the badly damaged and abandoned boats and cars.
We finally made our arrival at Maho Beach, the beach made famous for the many airplanes that come and go just above the heads of the many adventurous tourists who come to experience planes taking off and landing so close to the beach. Many were shocked by the appearance of the beach and how much it had changed, so much so that they decided to not even stop. Regardless of having a smaller beach, it was still a must see location and was so much fun watching the airplanes take off and land so close to the road and the beach.
give you a tour

hey guys okay so far so good things are
going well on this cruise couldn't be
happier I'm really glad that we picked
this for my first ever cruise with my
wife and I and so now what I'm gonna do
is I'm gonna throw in some footage of
just touring around the ship we're gonna
look at the decks we're gonna look at
the pools we're gonna look at everything
there is the offer on the outside of the
ship so let's go check it out and I hope
you like this one

okay guys welcome back to the show I'm
still Dave I'm still freaked ography and
I'm still on the celebrities silhouette
cruise ship so I'm doing a tour of this
ship and I hope you liked it so far what
we're gonna do now is we're gonna go
take a walk and look at some of the
restaurants I can't get into all the
restaurants because some of them are
closed some of them and you need a
special reservation for but I will check
out the grand cuvee which is the main
fancy dining room we'll check out the
buffet dining room which has been really
good and we'll check out the coffee shop
we'll check out the burger bar there's a
bird there's a burger grill bar a couple
other one so we'll check those out and
maybe I'll tell you what I think about
the Bekaa tell you right now making the
reservation and thank you Bay every day
it's probably the best way to go buffets
good for lunch buffets good for
breakfast like you really want to book
yourself a reservation every night at
the Grand Cafe or pay the extra 30 40 50
bucks for one of the fancy fine-dining
restaurants but uh let's keep going and
[Music]
I think I'm gonna do these

[Music]
shore excursions where you can come and
book your excursion for any of your
ports lumen a this must be one out of
one of the fancy restaurants you likely
have to pay a fee in order to eat at
this restaurant but like I said earlier
it is so worth it
here we have the entranceway to some of
the specialty restaurants and an
exclusive lounge
[Music]
your head
so again this is an exclusive lounge for
members only and here's your entrance to
cuisine Tuscan Grill and blue all
exclusive dining facilities that you
have to pay a premium in order to to eat
at
we came here a couple of nights ago and
ate here at qz n-- cuisine and was
probably our favorite restaurant and our
favorite dining experience of the whole
trip and you've got blue I look like I'm
allowed to go in here and then you've
got the Tuscan grill I'll just take a
walk in here this it's very nice
[Music]
[Music]
okay once again we are in one of the
exclusive dining facilities and you can
eat in any of these for anywhere from
thirty to fifty dollars a person plus
tip and it's sold so worth it it's long
that was the Tuscan grill
here
this looks like a pretty fancy joint
great views
I look outside and a wide shot of the
whole room there you go now you can see
not bad
hey guys we're still here still walking
around the ship so one of the things I
like about this ship is that it's not an
adults-only cruise ship but you wouldn't
know that there's kids on the ship
they've got a really good youth program
they've got a basketball court it's
windy up here they got a basketball
court they've got a games area they've
got our cage they've got a big xbox room
I've barely seen any kids and that's the
great thing is that they can seem to
take the kids and stick them in a corner
where they can have fun for a week and
then mom and dad pick them up at the end
of the week something like that but if
you're looking for an adults-only cruise
this is actually a good one if you've
read about kids this is probably the
cruise for you if you can't find an
adults-only cruise for your timeframe
this is a good one because there's kids
on the ship but you wouldn't even know
if these you can barely even see them so
that's a little bit of a tip or insight
for me uh-uh
because big thing for my wife and I we
like the adults-only cruises and this
one we knew that they included kids but
you wouldn't know it so little insight
for me and maybe I'll think of some more
little tips that I wish I knew before I
booked this trip
ah graffiti silhouette and it's windy as
hell up here tonight today I mean
hopefully you can hear me

whereas here we are on I know I don't
know what side I'm on port side or
starboard side but this is the deck with
all the lifeboats
before your cruise starts everybody is
has to join a mandatory evacuation
briefing so you learn where to meet in
case of an emergency and where you're
supposed to go and how to get down here
onto this deck to get on your lifelines
speaking of lifeboats and I'm reminded
of the movie Titanic and a little while
I'm going to show you something that I
don't think any cruise ship should be
showing on their photos on the walls I
think that's I think it's pretty funny
this dream I just a little bit so you
can see this down there you go maybe see
if it better now
turn around the enemy
earlier in the video I talked about two
things on a cruise ship or on any ship
that should never ever be shown in
photos or even mentioned one of those
things is rose you should never ever
ever have a picture of rose on a cruise
ship what's the second thing that should
never be on a cruise ship I'm gonna find
out in a minute okay what's the second
thing that should never be shown on a
cruise ship iceberg this cruise ship has
multiple pictures of icebergs one two
three
or
and then there's four more I think
cruise ships should not have fixes of
icebergs or pictures of rose hey what's
going on guys I am again photography I'm
still on the celebrity silhouette ship
and I hope you've liked the tour so far
so I'm on my last full day here but I
have a shooting video all week for this
and I hope you guys like what I've
brought you
so what we're gonna do now is we're
going to go on a tour of the entire ship
and I'm going to show you behind the
scenes I'm going to show you the bridge
the engine control room where they do
laundry
whatever I'm allowed to see I'm going to
film some stuff I might have to put some
pictures instead of film because I
believe I'm not allowed to film video on
the bridge or in the control room so
that's a bummer but I'll put some
pictures in and you can get a bit of a
behind-the-scenes tour I paid a hundred
bucks for it and I'll let you know at
the end if it was worth it and let's see
how it goes so again thanks for tuning
in thanks for watching the video so far
and not check it out and stick it in for
the whole thing so let's go do this tour
and I'll see you when I'm back
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
exactly
[Music]
yeah
okay once again I'm outside it is windy
as hell out here on the ship but that
was our tour I paid a hundred bucks for
the whole walking tour in the advance
tour of the ship as a as a standard as a
guest that's a pretty cool tour I could
get a set about a hundred bucks and they
squeeze in about fifteen people per tour
and you get a really good tour of the
bridge which was really neat you get to
see the engine control room you learn
all about the recycling how they
recycled everything on the ship it's
pretty informative and really cool it
was really hard for me to get any
footage so I'll throw some in that I
think was usable but that was the tour
or the behind-the-scenes tour of the
ship which again was really cool and I
would recommend anybody who's on the
ship try and check it out for 100 bucks
so hopefully my footage was okay inside
show you a little bit behind the scenes
and now we're gonna move on to some
other stuff see a bit
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
what's up guys there Beck's day free tog
Rafi I'm still on the celebrity
silhouette and tonight is what they call
cheap night where everybody dresses up
and uh cheap clothes looks we're really
good everybody's all fancy I've had a
few glasses of wine tonight so that
might be a little bit slurry but I mean
I'm not too chic but I got my shirt with
lizards on and I got my black dress
pants on so this is what we're gonna see
tonight you're gonna have a look and
you're gonna see what sheet night looks
like on the celebrity silhouette here we
go ographers and people get their
pictures taken that's the grand cuvee
dining room moving on this is the
martini bar but the martini bar here and
we have this lovely lady we have a
lovely lady sitting here this just
happens to be my wife
[Music]
[Music]
still here it's Dave photography it's
really hard to find some place on this
ship that's not windy especially on the
outside deck but uh I feel stupid
walking through the ship talking at my
phone so that's why I do it over here in
places where hopefully people can't see
me so one of the good things I liked
about this ship was shopping my wife
liked it my mother-in-law liked it sort
of my father and I I picked myself up a
watch my wife got a ring it got really
good deals every day on everything you
can imagine from perfume jewelry watches
so I picked myself up a really nice
Swiss watch not wearing it right now but
uh really happy with that so the shop
it's really good the casinos are a lot
of fun so what I'll do now is I'll cut
them some footage of the shops maybe of
the casino I did get a little drunk in
the casino last night but I didn't get
anything so let's have a look at the
shops let's have a look at the casino
and stay dude
[Music]
go gamble
fortunes fortunes Casino where you get
all your fortune
[Music]

[Music]

[Music]
okay so I'm inside now and I don't like
talking loud when I'm inside the ship
but they have something at the very
front or the forward area of the ship
called the Sky Lounge and it's a pretty
fancy looking part of the ship and it's
right at the very front and you get a
full panoramic view of the both sides on
the front of the ship it's really quiet
nice little lounge it's got some really
cool nightlife they play some more jazz
music so I was here the other night and
got some footage and I'll give you a
little walkthrough of the daytime and
then I'll show you what it's like at
nighttime so ah let's move on and let's
go check out the Sky Lounge
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
and then up on the seventh deck I have a
quiet area when you can it's called the
hideaway where you can read books out of
me gotta be quiet doing here
Cheers
it's gonna hear taking it out
I had a big day hungover you sitting
these Oh eggs read a book any chairs
here sit in the egg read a book sitting
there this is the Hideaway seventh that
continuity
don't forget that guy right there taking
it down and you come out of the highway
and hide away there's more staterooms
and different rooms and hallways ten up
on the ninth deck you've got what's
called the card room where mostly old
people say to play cards so uh I'm out
of breath let's go see the card room
three hots old people here Scrabble
buddies playing their games having a
good time
here's the tree there's a tree growing
for the middle of the ship you dare see
anyways now we'll go up this is my
favorite floors like the pictures on the
wall here was neither library tent deck
so here's all the books
I got a lot of books
but what happens if I want that look up
there
how do they get me that book all kinds
of
right here
a lot of books
nice
see what's down here
there's that tree again there's that big
old tree and that's a pretty cool
picture right there hey all the way down
the elevator shaft a little bit of your
left some ability right tree
No
okay now we're gonna go look at the
indoor pool and then we're gonna go look
at the gym we are here on the 10th deck
and I have to go up to the 12th deck to
the pool the pool bar the solarium and
the Aqua Spa Cafe this is where there's
an indoor pool which is where I'm going
next and then we're going to go to the
gym and we're going to show you the gym
okay
we'll be right back okay we have to go
to the indoor pool bar which is all the
way over there so we're gonna walk
through and we'll take you to the pool
bar here I'll speed up
it is going into the indoor fight the
client for that hey here we go cool
[Music]
for today
[Music]
I guess that's all the pores closed
today Wow
I've never seen this before
[Music]
seems really rockin today boy
[Music]
okay so now we're gonna move into the
wellness area that's uh so you can get
your massages here you'd be gonna shave
you can get acupuncture manicure
pedicure all kinds our wellness services
they're all added features that you have
to pay for on the ship then we'll check
out the gym - this is a fitness center
it's busy in here got treadmills all
around the outside the elliptical
machines rowing machines cycling
machines sit this consultation area free
weights all at the very forward area of
the ship
this room
the waves are huge today
[Music]
take a look
okay so that wraps this one up or I'm
gonna leave the gym now then we'll go
through and I'll show you the wellness
area where you added services they get
paid for such as massage acupuncture
manicure pedicure etcetera
excuse the film footage of his we're a
bit wobbly my C's are pretty angry today
here we go
manicure pedicure acupuncture

and that's it that's been the that's
been the Wellness area
[Music]
