Swimming enthusiast Cody Miller here.
Today I'm going to attempt to swim a full mile butterfly.
I just turned 33 years old and I thought it would be fun to do something
challenging to celebrate.
We are going to do 33 fifties of butterfly.
That's 66 laps, which is 1,650 yards,
which is exactly one mile of swimming all butterfly.
This is my birthday slash new year's swim because I have not
swam yet this year. First dip in the pool of 2025.
The goal here is to do something challenging. It's to make it.
I'm going to do these fifties on a minute.
I don't know when the last time was I did a full mile butterfly.
I'm like legitimately a little, a little, a little nervous.
Actually very, very nervous.
Kind of a tough one to get back into shape,
but that's what I'm here for to do hard things.
My teammates are just hacky sagging behind me.
You guys going to get in a little bit, just a little. Okay.
If we do it all in a minute, 33 minutes of butterfly. Here we go.
One, only 32 to go. I stretched and activated.
I warmed up, you know, I'm ready to go. We're not sprinting all these.
So I think we'll be okay. Number two, two. Hey, you guys look great.
Yep. Number three. I feel like a bad person.
I forgot I had a bandaid on my ankle and it just fell off in the middle of the
pool. I just contributed to a bad pool culture,
gross things floating around. Not good.
I took a stroke of fly and I caught it. I found the bandaid.
This set's going to go really well. I can feel it.
As long as I can maintain my stroke integrity,
I'll keep the interval on a minute. So far we're hanging out just fine.
Cause it's gotta be challenging, but I don't want my stroke to be totally terrible.
Oh, thank goodness. It's getting hard by myself, man.
Reinforcements have arrived. Thank goodness. Okay. On top.
It can be done.
My shoulders are feeling something. Number 10. My heart is harder than it should be.
I'm not even going that fast. Oh, we are not in shape.
Did you guys stay up for new year's Eve? I did big mistake.
New year's Eve is overrated. Such a waste. I hated it.
I like that. Sorry. I'd taken that with my other GoPro.
Oh, seriously. In my top three, least favorite things of all time.
Staying up past bedtime way up there.
And I hadn't stayed up past midnight in a long time.
Terrible way to start the year. Oh, that was 10.
We're like almost a third of the way. Officially 33.3% of the way there.
Come on. It can be done. We're almost halfway.
For anyone wondering, I can't speak for anyone wondering,
I'm holding about 30 points, 30s, 31s ish. We're doing okay.
Shoulders starting to hurt a little bit. 31 there.
This year I plan to race more fly. Masters nationals are in April.
Unfortunately I can't go to that.
One of my best friends is getting married in Mexico,
but masters world championships are in Singapore in August.
So you never know. Could be long-term goal there.
Oh yeah. That's halfway. That's halfway baby.
I'd like to tell you my super fun goal this year.
I'm calling project 50 miles. Project 50 miles.
I'll explain it to you at the end of the video. Dude, where's the time going?
We already got to go. You guys see any good movies over break?
I watched wicked unpopular opinion. I didn't like it. It was slow.
Not a lot happened. Kind of boring. And I like musicals.
Yeah. Musicals. Oh, we got to go. I haven't seen the stage play either.
There's no reason for part one to be two and a half hours.
That's what I thought. Part one is basically the length of the whole play.
Correct.
I can't even tell you how much better it is with people just doing the laps with
me. Dude, those first seven fifties when I was by myself, I was like, Oh man,
this is, it was so lonely. So hard.
You're going to 26.
I'm trying to make it through John. I'm trying to survive.
I got a 29 on that one. Just by you going fast. I was faster.
One third left. I guess all the CrossFit I've been doing has been working
because 30 points aren't that bad now. I'm like getting into a groove.
Feeling okay. What would the Navy seal say? Who's going to carry the boats?
Yeah. I'm thinking fundamentals. Press the head and the chest down.
Let the hips come up. That last one. I was really like,
Terrible finish. I got to clean that up. Can't be working bad finishes.
You're going to crank? Go John. I believe in you. Rip it, dude. Rip it up.
I'll be faster just because you're a little faster.
Long finish again. Not good. Few more. We're going to conserve ammo on this one.
We're going to blast the last one. Coach Luke holding in strong. He's doing good.
Look great. All right. Only one left, dude.
Let's go.
For sure.
That's a mild butterfly in the can.
You get that on film? Hope so.
This is my second swim since November.
That's terrible. I'm so out of shape.
Oh yeah. I feel accomplished right now. I'm glad we did that.
25. Also, my goggles were way too tight. Oh, that's not good.
I got to loosen these puppies. All right. Next time, hundreds. Just kidding.
No, I'm just kidding. Oh, my legs are, I got to start working legs, man.
Just a quick sets. I'm swimming like this. Just vertical.
Just the struggle. I'm going to loosen up my legs here for 50. Oh yeah.
In my last video where I retired from professional swimming,
I said that I am no longer a professional swimmer.
I got a lot of feedback from viewers saying, you know,
just because I'm not swimming at the Olympics or swimming on the pro series
doesn't mean I'm not a professional.
I mean, I've been swimming at a high level for well over 20 years now.
So maybe I could still refer to myself as a professional swimmer.
But I like I like the phrase swimming enthusiast more.
I think it sounds a little more fun,
which is a little more in line with my goals.
They're a little more fun and a lot less serious.
I'll tell you about project 50 miles in a minute. But first I am very hungry.
I had a really light breakfast this morning,
so I have not one but two factor meals.
Factor takes stress out of meal planning, skip the grocery store,
prep work and cooking fresh,
never frozen meals delivered straight to your door with over 35 meals to
choose from per week. That includes keto, calorie smart,
vegan and veggie meals and more.
I've been eating factor meals for legitimately years now,
and I love the flexibility that they provide.
I can add and subtract meals whenever I want.
If I've got a really heavy training week, I add a bunch of meals.
If I'm going out of town and I'm not going to be home for a week,
I skip that week. Get yourself some chef crafted, dietician approved,
never frozen meals that you just heat and eat.

Tell you what, there's one person in this world who's loving this weather.
It's puff. She is bushy and just loving,
absolutely loving this weather Lego. Not so much.
He's kind of a warm weather kind of boy. It's a little brisk outside.
Look at the Lake completely frozen. Few feet of snow.
Let's head back inside. And I'm going to tell you about project 50 miles this
year, 2025. I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling, like a lot of traveling.
And I thought it would be fun to set a goal,
to swim one mile everywhere I go. Hence project 50 miles.
My goal is to swim one mile in every single state in the United States.
Now to date, over the course of my lifetime,
I've already technically completed 33 States. So for a lifetime,
I only have 17 States left before I can say I've swam one mile in every state in
the country.
But my goal is to see how close to getting 50 States in one year.
I can get, I'm kicking off this mission in Columbia, Missouri,
the first week of February.
A big part of the reason why I'm traveling all over is because I'm doing
speaking events and swim clinics.
If you would like to bring me out for a swim clinic,
if you want to race me in your home pool, every clinic and event that I run,
people get to race me. Everyone gets to wear an Olympic gold medal.
If you'd like to do that, send me an email to Cody Miller show at gmail.com or
head to ultimate swimmer.com and request an event there.
I'm really excited about this. I think it'll be a lot of fun. 50 States,
50 miles. The tricky ones are going to be like getting to Alaska.
I got to work, got to kind of work that one out.
I really want to visit Alaska. There's a lot of States. Actually,
here's the list of States.
I have not swam a mile in over the course of my lifetime right there.
Those are the 17 right there. So if you're in one of those States or anywhere else,
like I said, you know, I kind of got to get everywhere.
