2022 Honda Insight Touring: TEST DRIVE+FULL REVIEW

What's up guys it's Will here from WTF Car Reviews and today we're going to be reviewing this all-new 2022 Honda Insight. Alright guys before we start I want to give a huge thank you to Regal Honda here in beautiful Lakeland Florida for making this review possible. These guys have a really kind staff and their inventory is really impressive. They have a ton of cars here so if you're in the market for a new car in the Florida area I would definitely check these guys out. So for those of you guys who don't know this 2022 Honda Insight is going to be sharing a platform with the previous generation Civic. It doesn't look the same, the styling is completely different but the overall chassis is going to be very similar. So what that means it's going to be very well composed, it's going to drive very well, it's going to be very well handling as well and it doesn't really add much weight to this vehicle compared to the Civic. So this vehicle is going to weigh about 3,100 pounds but that's not much heavier compared to what it would be in the Civic at the time. So definitely nothing to complain about. You guys can see this exterior styling out here. Very good looking car. It doesn't look anything like a Civic. This rear end may look a little bit closer to the previous generation Civic but it definitely carries its own personal distinguishing design. So what this vehicle basically is it's Honda's hybrid so it competes with vehicles like the Toyota Prius but it does a similar overall job when it comes to fuel economy. It may do a little bit better when it comes to performance but I don't think there's even a question when it comes to styling. I think this is a much much better looking vehicle. So I guess if you're somebody that wants Prius fuel economy but you don't want to be associated as somebody that drives a Prius I think you found the car for you but let's check out this front end. So immediately when you come out front you got your LED headlights with LED daytime running strips. I usually do not like chrome trim but I always like it when they can find a way to integrate the daytime running light with the chrome trim. This way when the lights are on and we'll see that in a minute but when the lights are on here this chrome trim does fit very very well from the distance. But again LED lights for low and high beam they're going to be extremely bright and coming down here you got your signature Honda six-piece fog lights. So these are also pretty cool maybe five-piece I'm not sure if that one back there is an actual light but regardless it does a really good job. You got your air curtains right here if you can tell you do have I'm not sure if that's a radiator or like an air filter or whatnot but it's definitely functional they definitely thought this design through very very heavily. You continue over here of course you got more chrome trim but you can check out your radiator over there for this 1.5 liter gas engine which of course is also mated to two lithium-ion batteries and two or not two an e-cvt transmission but we'll talk about all that as we continue but you can check out this black grille I like the gloss panels with the flat black in the middle. So overall great styling and I'm not sure if you can pick it up for the camera the sun is out right now so you may be able to but check out that metallic white paint guys that is really really beautiful so let's just take one more step back and you guys can check out this design. I think they absolutely killed it I think when it comes to comparing it to its competition in terms of exterior styling I just don't see how the competition can compete they're gonna have to make some changes but if we come up front over here you can check out these wheels they are a little bit dirty because we just came off a little dirt road that's where this car was kept but not a big deal these tires are continental pro contact tires some of the best all-season tires you can get when it comes to dimensions they are 215 50r 17s and these are I guess spokes they're very wide that does help aerodynamics less air is going to fall in here and cause a parachuting effect and that's going to help your overall fuel economy and that's what this car is all about so this vehicle has really good fuel economy it's about 51 in the city and 45 on the highway you can see over here with this hybrid badge so that's absolutely incredible guys we're going to check all that out as we continue and you can continue to see this beautiful metallic white paint but anyway of course you got smart access for your driver and your front passenger this is the touring trim so we are going to have some really cool bells and whistles while also keeping the price tag relatively low but you don't get pushed open gas tank i'll show you guys where the latch is on the inside but we got full led tail lights you got your brake light and your turn signals with your reverse light in the middle so really cool guys very good rear end here it does kind of look a little bit like a civic but you got your distinguishing insight badge with your hybrid touring badge next to it but of course you got your reverse camera as well but let's take one last step back and let's start her up and hear how this 2022 insight sounds well i guess we're not going to be starting this car up and hearing how it sounds because you can't rev this car in park for some reason but not a big deal let's check out this motor that we have over here um and one thing i don't like about these honda badges i mean these honda vehicles is it's almost impossible to access these hoods wow these latches are really out of the way but we got it uh we do not get struts unfortunately uh but not a big deal we'll put this prop rod up real quick and check out this motor so this is your 1.5 liter engine matched with two lithium ion batteries so the total output of this configuration is about 151 horsepower and 197 pound feet of torque so not the worst numbers expect 0 to 60 to be around seven and a half seconds um it is transmission so uh it'll be interesting to see what the overall result is but we'll figure that out all when we take it out for a drive uh if you want to check out the rest of this engine bay you don't get any supports uh you do get a strut tower brace surprisingly uh it's welded to the frame of the strut towers uh not a big deal of course you've got really nice overall chassis but that's about it guys you got your overall power plant uh it is pushed to the left quite a bit and the there is no battery under the engine bay of course since this vehicle is a hybrid but let's shut this engine up real quick and check out the interior because that's really where this vehicle shines all right guys so stepping inside the 2022 insight so up top on the door um panel you're going to have soft touch plastic for where your arm will often rest great they offered you that the new civic doesn't offer that for the sport trim but for the higher trims it does offer that but coming down here now this is really impressive this is some really soft stitched leather material very impressive to have on a door panel of a vehicle that stickers under 30,000 bucks guys but we'll check that out all price wise once we step inside down here not as soft as this material i do wish they put this if they put this material here but this is still soft it's padded very well and you got pretty good storage capabilities over here as well uh continuing here you do have power one touch for your front seats uh but no power one touch for your rear passenger is not a big deal we don't really expect it but coming down here good storage capabilities you could easily fill fit a 12 ounce right there with some snacks over here too uh you got your trunk release over there as well but so this is where we really shine check out these seats guys so you got some really cool perforated leather uh extremely soft extremely comfortable let's turn this air down i don't know if it's affecting your guys sound quality but uh the seats wise these are unbelievably soft i don't know if you could pick it up through the camera but truly truly remarkable seats um very impressive as soon as i sat in these seats i was like wow this car is really really high quality from door panel to seats and now that we step inside you'll see more of this high quality vehicle one more click on the air check out the steering wheel guys it is absolutely perfect um i love the 2022 civic steering wheel but this is better you got absolutely perfect nine and three slots you got great inlets for your thumbs uh unbelievable bolstering extension for your 10 and twos and the steering wheel itself very very thick no flat bottom but not a big deal guys it's a great overall shape and it fits your hands absolutely perfectly um so another thing that we get this is a completely digital display i'll turn the car off and on right now so you guys can see it so we're off right now um you got your eco score probably wasn't too good since we spent most of the time just sitting here but let's start her up and you can check out your gauges coming to life so that's pretty cool guys um i like this overall design no you can't rev it watch this see all you hear is the sound of the gas pedal going back but there's you can't rev this car up i wish you could so you can hear how this engine sounds it does have an interesting exhaust note but i guess we're gonna have to wait until we take this car out for a drive but uh when it comes to these gauges to the left you got your battery level so um right now we're in ev mode so we're using nothing but battery uh but when we're not in ev mode you're gonna be using the gas which your level is right there uh here you got your um you can see if you're using your regen braking or if you're using power it's nice they you can see that while you're driving so you also get a um analog speedometer digitally so it's a digital speedometer but it's uh still shows it to you in an analog manner but uh that's about it when it comes to front gauge display uh you can adjust it based on your drive mode so you do have sport mode you do have uh econ mode and you have full ev mode so we can't use full ev mode right now because the battery level is a little low oh no you can okay so here right now we're in ev mode uh we put it into sport and sport turns your engine on you can hear but even in sport you can't rev the car up very interesting uh let's try econ mode now we're in econ so pretty cool but uh continuing when it comes to quality and materials up top for the dashboard it is soft touch plastic nice they gave you that uh the door the dashboard frame is hard but you expect that you don't expect the entire dashboard to be soft uh but anyway you got your trip settings right here this is how you open up your gas tank you turn off your traction control and you got your advanced safety features like your lane departure warning or lane keep assist right here but this vehicle does come with paddle shifters even though we're using an e-cvt transmission but that's what the test drives for we're going to check all that out but here we have you guys here's your eight inch touchscreen so it comes with android auto and apple carplay of course uh you got your at&t hotspot too but great response it responds very well uh we're not going to go into it too much you got your navigation not sure if it's connected it is connected and you have a very nice uh display it is much better than it used to be very high quality display let's go back um you do have a power flow let's check that out so it shows you your range it shows you your current miles per gallon and it also shows you where the power is going so that's about it for that um of course you also have apple carplay and android auto as well with bluetooth and smartphone connection and all that uh continuing down you do have automatic climate too so it's nice they gave you that for your touring trim um continuing down i do wish that they gave you cooled seats but you don't get them you just get heated seats so for colder climates that's nice but for climates like these it would be nice to have both but continuing down you got two usbs no usb c's surprisingly because that seems to be the direction most manufacturers are going but not not these guys they're going to be sticking with usbs which is nice for me because that's what i personally use but you got a 12 volt power outlet here as well and this base you can easily fit your phone here with no problem but unfortunately you can't have wireless charging i do wish they added that here for this 2022 touring trim but i'm sure we're going to see it soon um anyway so unlike the civic you don't get a true gear shifter you're going to be using this old school well not old school it's honda's been doing for a few for a few years now honda and acura but you got your buttons where you push uh for park pull for reverse push for neutral and drive uh pretty cool for sport modes right here you got your electronic parking brake and your brake hold so at red lights you're not going to have to be holding your foot on the brake but continuing when it comes to quality uh well before that you get your red illuminated start stop that's cool uh you got leather wrapped uh dash over here so that's really cool too very high quality interior all around looks it looks absolutely killer uh so when it comes to center console space this is a little bit confusing um over here you can fit a two liter soda there no problem at all truly massive but it's a very interesting design similar overall to the odyssey that we reviewed uh you can take you can put this all the way forward you can take these cup holders out and now you can just check out how much space you have in here so absolutely massive you can probably fit like a six pack plus like four more sodas if you really wanted to you can probably fit 10 to 12 8 12 ounce bottles of water in here truly massive center console um but let's put this thing back and check this out so this thing also slides back and forth so you can have just just this area where you can throw your water bottle in in there um you can also pull this back and have more usable space now it's all about comfort depends on your seating position i'll personally keep it all the way in the farthest back setting because that's what would be most comfortable for me but um we're basically done up here let's just check out this rear view mirror which is auto dimming with three garage mode settings you do have a sunroof that's also nice uh but let's check out this window sticker and just see anything that i may have missed so of course you got your 1.5 liter engine it's based on the old civic so it's going to have your rear multi-link suspension uh front mcpherson strut electronic power steering um of course all that you got your airbags you got your interior features such as leather seats leather steering wheel premium audio system with 10 speakers so it's going to be a very good sound system in this vehicle on the touring package but of course you got apple carplay android auto uh usbs push to start uh eight-way power driver seat you got dual zone automatic climate too um auto divvying rear view mirror uh home link system of course you got your electronic parking brake um when it comes to exterior features you got your blind spot monitoring that's nice to give you that you got your 17 inch rims wrapped in 215s you got led fog lights led headlights auto high beams auto on off that's nice they gave you those and um basically all the all the features you could ever want to need when it comes to honda sensing and their advanced safety features um of course you get adaptive cruise you get collision mitigation braking system lane keep assist it's nice to give you that and road departure mitigation so when it comes to optional equipment of course similar to this uh civic 22 civic we reviewed this is going to have the platinum platinum white pearl paint so it's a 400 option about 400 bucks but that's the only option we have in this car of course the base price if you didn't have the paint would be 29,240 bucks before destination but after destination it comes out to about 30,000 bucks and a half so still a great overall value considering what you get this is a very luxurious overall ride um it's very economical as you guys can see you're getting 51 miles per gallon in the city 45 miles per gallon the highway 48 combined so you're getting a true true hybrid experience it's going to be phenomenal on gas you're going to definitely be saving money in terms of that you're going to have a pretty affordable overall um out the door cost and you're not going to be getting all the negative i guess stigma that you would if you were choosing to drive a prius um i understand the prius doesn't deserve all the hate that it gets um i guess it's happened because it was the original uh hybrid sedan even though this actually came out first which is weird but regardless uh people tend to not really like this the prius as much so if you want to avoid the stigma this is a great vehicle to go with but that's about it with this front seat let's check out this glove box real quick it's not damped at all as you just saw it just falls right down not lying with felt either but it's huge you could fit 10 to 15 license plates in there with no problem so very good all around guys but that's about it for the front seat guys of course you got paddle shifters i didn't mention but that's about it so let's check out the back all right guys so stepping in the back seat on this 2022 insight so unlike the front seat you're just going to have hard plastic up here for the door panel uh that's unfortunate but it is also expected it's nice they gave you that leather trim down here anyway so the top's not going to continue but the middle is and the bottom is going to be the same material for your armrest so overall high quality back seat uh you don't get power one touch back here and this overall design could be a little bit better but it's not a big deal of course the parts that you're going to be resting your arm is going to be soft so not a big deal uh in here you can probably fit a 12 ounce bottle in here with some snacks on the outside pretty good overall storage and check out these seats so you're going to have the same perforated leather seats very very soft they don't continue all the way to the door frame uh but not a big deal we'll check out the overall comfort right now um so compared to the new civic this looks like it has less legroom um obviously the 11th generation civic has a one and a half inch longer wheelbase as we mentioned in that review uh so that's why that car is going to have a little bit more rear legroom but let's check it out and see how it is so i'm six feet tall sitting behind my seat settings uh my knees are not touching the seat but they are getting pretty close i'd say about two inches and i'll start to get a little bit uncomfortable but i can fit back here comfortably uh we're just starting to push it a little bit when it comes to foot room very impressive i can fit my feet down here with no problems so pretty cool pretty impressive back seat all around no mat pocket behind the driver's seat uh but you do have one behind the passenger seat so can't complain no air vents though so not a big deal but this is the touring trim it would be nice if you got air vents on the trim but unlike the 2022 civic sport you do get a center console right here and it's very soft very nice armrest and you do get two cup holders as well no pass-through but the seats do fall down and we'll see that when we check out the trunk and speaking of checking out the trunk we've basically seen everything we need to see in this back seat uh the materials that you are going to be using are very high quality uh very soft seats very nice center console only minuses it'll be nice to have air vents but not a big deal of course let's check out the trunk real quick and then take this car out for a drive all right guys so to check out the trunk we simply gonna press the button you can also use the key fob and you can also press the button on the inside so overall the opening not as large as the new civic the new civic definitely definitely addressed some well-needed issues and the trunk opening wasn't one of them regardless though guys the trunk opening still is huge it's very very large uh very impressive trunk opening it's just not quite as large as the new civic but coming in here um again the wheelbase here is about an inch and a half shorter than the new civic so uh it's going to be slightly shorter trunk but it's still very very large they design their cutouts in here very very well so you're going to maximize usable space really well but it doesn't go very deeply in but again these seats do fold down you just simply pull these oh crap but you simply pull these latches over here and the seats fall down but all in all guys very impressive uh trunk space and opening uh so that's about it let's shut this trunk take a step back and let's take this car out for a drive all right guys so now we've just about seen everything that we need to see with the inside and outside of the all-new 2022 honda insight touring let's take it out for a drive and see how she can really perform so first thing that i notice uh the turning radius is very sharp in this car and the steering has a decent amount of weight to it it's not the lightest steering which is good for me like i personally don't like when it's too light i don't like when it's too heavy either so i think this is just right very good steering you can still have a good sense of confidence on the road um without struggling of course and without like obviously questioning what your wheels are doing it's not that numb and light so honda always kills it when it comes to steering even with these new electric racks and that definitely continues to be true with this uh 2022 insight but we are we are in econ mode right now let's step onto this road about half throttle pretty good torque surprisingly good torque guys but you have your ecvt we're just going to be holding our revs but let's let off we reach speed stepping on the gas it was a little bit less than half throttle we got to 45 miles an hour just about effortlessly guys so very impressive all around um and we're on the road right now just cruising and very very low uh wind noise you don't really hear any wind noise honda keeps their cabin super luxurious but let's throw it into the sharp turn very good handling um not as much steering feel as the civic the civic had a little bit more feel and it did feel a little bit more direct but this handling is still phenomenal in this insight so these new these new honda cars they have really really been killing it really been killing it all right guys um i want to put it into pure ev mode so let's do that so we're in only ev mode right now and we're going to see how the acceleration is and overall response so stepping onto this road not a whole lot of power but it's actually surprising like you're getting up to speed very very quickly surprisingly quickly uh but ev mode gets canceled once you hit a certain amount of speed i guess it's only useful up to a certain speed but even in ev mode you have a surprising amount of power uh let's throw it into sport and check out how it is in sport and let's just step on the gas oh wow that is surprising amount of power guys wow that is really quick what guys this is a sporty little hybrid wow we're going way faster than i thought it was we got to slow down but we got a sharp turn whoo this handling guys oh wow i'm impressed this car oh wow yeah if you're in the market for a hybrid and you want a fun driving experience you want to get 50 miles per gallon um so this is a great great choice i've never driven a prius i don't want to bash on the i want to bash on something that i have no idea about i don't want to bash something that i know nothing about so um i would have to drive the prius and compare it to this car uh but given that this prius doesn't really have the best reputation there is kind of a negative stigma for prius drivers we can't really pretend that's not true so if you don't want it if you want to avoid the stigma this is a great car to buy the styling beautiful i think it's a great design the interior is extremely comfortable i'm not going to say that's not the case with the prius of course but i'm just talking about this car right now this car very comfortable interior the sound system is incredible this 10 speaker audio system with a subwoofer sounds really really good you have very good insulation from the road very quiet i don't know if you can translate to the camera but you don't really hear these bumps at all you barely even feel them these continental tires definitely help match with this very well sorted suspension so all in all guys this is a really impressive car we're going to try to do a couple more acceleration and handling tests before we wrap it up but just letting you guys know so far this is a really impressive hybrid but okay we're in sport mode we got a little bit of open road we're going to slow down and check out how this vehicle can accelerate off the line and this hybrid so they usually have pretty strong acceleration off the line so let's just punch it oh good torque wow surprising so this is a cvt we're going to be holding the revs but that's we got to i'm not going to say the speed uh because it's not mexico but it got to very high speed in less seconds than promised in my opinion i didn't have a timer on of course but in my brain watch or just brain clock felt faster and this handling guys oh my gosh wow i'm gonna calm down this car it's not necessary to be pushing it but i hope you guys get the sense of this car's performance it's very very impressive uh the steering is very very sharp uh very direct it's not as direct as the civic but the civic when it came to handling 2022 was phenomenal it was super sharp super direct and it was flat this car is very similar to um it weighs about 3078 pounds i believe uh the civic was right up there too the new civic is also about uh 3070 ish pounds uh you can let me know in the comments section if i'm a little bit off but these are pretty light cars and even with these uh lithium ion batteries they still kept this car relatively light and you can definitely feel it throwing it through the turns and when it comes to acceleration this cvt is short so it doesn't take long for it to get to its high rpms the civic 22 civic the cvt was not as short so it took a little bit longer to climb so when it comes to sensation of speed this car has a little bit more than the new civic but i'm sure if you still put both vehicles next to each other they're going to be just as fast so it's just what i'm talking about is the sensation of speed and the price tag on this car is still relatively low you are sitting around 30 000 so nothing to complain about overall it's a pretty good deal and you're going to be saving a lot of money on gas but let's step in a little bit here about half throttle this guy this car can move and that noise that i'm not sure if that's a fake noise because there was a little bit of a delay but it does sound pretty interesting guys throwing it around these turns this car is nice but here comes a sharp one this will give guys wow this car is seriously surprising it handles like a sports car probably and that's probably partially because of the batteries too keeping the center of gravity lower i'm sure everything plays a role but all in all guys as you can tell i'm very impressed with this 2022 insight if you're in the market for a hybrid uh hybrid sedan i this is probably one of the best choices you have i'll definitely consider it and huge thanks to regal honda for making this review possible these guys have a huge huge inventory of cars guys if you're in the florida area and you're looking for a new car i would definitely check them out they're a great group of guys they love making deals and you're gonna have a great experience
