David and Goliath, the brave shepherd boy.
A long time ago in the land of Israel, there was a young shepherd boy named David.
He was kind, brave, and loved to play music on his harp.
David took care of his father's sheep and trusted God in everything he did.
One day, David's father sent him to take food to his brothers,
who were soldiers in the army of Israel.
When David arrived at the battlefield, he saw a giant named Goliath
standing tall and shouting at the soldiers.
Goliath was a warrior from the Philistine army, and he was huge, over nine feet tall.
He wore heavy armor and carried a giant spear.
Every day, he laughed at the Israelites and dared them to send someone to fight him.
But the soldiers were too scared, no one dared to face the giant.
But David was not afraid.
Why is everyone so scared? David asked.
I will fight Goliath. God will help me.
King Saul heard about David's bravery and called him.
But you are just a boy, Saul said.
David smiled.
I take care of my father's sheep.
When a lion or bear comes, I fight it off.
God kept me safe then, and he will help me now.
Saul finally agreed and gave David his own armor to wear, but it was too big and heavy.
David took it off and picked up his slingshot instead.
Then he found five smooth stones from the river and walked out to face Goliath.
Goliath laughed when he saw David.
Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks? he roared.
David stood tall and said,
You come with a sword, but I come in the name of the Lord.
David placed a stone in his sling, spun it around, and let it fly.
The stone whizzed through the air and hit Goliath right in the forehead.
The giant fell to the ground with a loud thud.
The Philistines were shocked.
Their mighty warrior had been defeated by a young shepherd boy.
They ran away in fear, and Israel won the battle.
From that day on, David became known as a brave and faithful warrior,
and later God made him the king of Israel.
The lesson?
With faith and courage, even the smallest person can do big things.
