Oh no
My dear little soul
無論你是在牽牽牠們 還是在放鬆牠們
我相信 花園可以給予你無數的快樂
This is epic
So my team and I are back
That one over there
Here
Is that him sitting there?
Surprising some remarkable people
And turning some of the most dismal plots we've ever seen
That's a monstrosity
Into breathtaking gardens they'll love
It's amazing
I feel like I'm dreaming
I'm gobsmacked
Welcome to Love Your Garden
25 miles east of London
Lies the Essex commuter town of Basildon
Head down the A127
And you'll see its very own homage to the famous Hollywood sign
And it's a local legend I'm visiting today
I'm here to meet a retired nurse
Who refuses to give up helping
The young people she's always cared for
For me Pat is pivotal in my rehabilitation
Pivotal in my confidence
She showed me the unconditional love
That any child going through any sort of trauma needs
To just feel comfort
And know you're going to be okay
Come on in
Miss Miss Miss
70 year old Pat Wade
Has dedicated her life
To helping children overcome the devastating impact
Of disfiguring burns injuries
She regularly visits her local burns clinic
Where some of the most seriously injured are treated
Most people will never experience
The sight of a badly burn injured child
你好
我是Pat
你還好嗎
And they've got that burn for the rest of their life
是Pat who held the mirror
When I looked at my face for the first time
And I'm really glad it was Pat
Because the person reflecting back in the mirror wasn't me
And so she really made me feel comfortable and at ease
再見
See you soon
Yeah
Look after yourself
I'm a plastic surgeon
But all I can do is keep people alive
The most important person in burn care
Is the after care
And that's where Pat becomes important
It was while working as a nurse
At a children's burns unit
That Pat realized the victims in her care
Needed psychological as well as physical help
After they left hospital
Once you got discharged
There was nothing in place
And you just went home and you dealt with it
Whereas Pat was determined that
She needs to do something
To help these children
Not only accept their scars and that
But give them social inclusion again
In 1995
Pat founded the UK's first ever
Burned children's club
And for more than 20 years
It's helped hundreds of badly scarred children
Have fun and make friends
Free from prejudice
It has been an environment where
You isn't the odd one out
And you can have a conversation
With other people and feel safe
But then not feel like you're being judged
With every movement you make
And I can't really imagine life
Without going to the children's club
To be honest
Some of the best moments of my life
Oh, you want to go? Come on then
Lily, Lily
Inspired by the success of Pat's first club
And with her encouragement
A network of burns charities
Has sprung up all over the country
Helping children nationwide
There's so many people before me and my generation
That never could imagine
The type of support that Pat's created
And so I feel very honoured
That I kind of fell into Pat's world
So as a thank you to this extraordinary woman
Who's helped so many others
Her friends and family have asked me
To take a look at her garden
The garden she has at the moment
Is just all concrete
And a big summer house
Full up with everybody else's stuff
Having a proper garden
Will just be something really special for mum
And I'm really glad
That she got nominated for this
Because she deserves it
Time for me to surprise Pat
With what I hope will be some welcome news
Hello
You're Pat
I am
I'm very relieved you're Pat
I know you are
You know who I am
That's a relief as well
Well we were told
By some of your friends that you work with
That you spend all your time
Doing stuff for other people
Particularly the children with burns
And they said she's retiring now
And she deserves a garden for herself
But it's not very good apparently
It's all concrete
I moved in and it was all concrete
Would you like to let me have a look at it
Yes I would thank you
Are you sure
Yeah that would be lovely
Well that's very kind of you
Now I've seen some concrete jungles in my time
But this one takes the biscuit
Oh it's very
There's not a lot of green is there really
There's no green
It's just like a yard isn't it
What's that
And that's a monstrosity of a shed
It's massive
And what's in here
This is Spike and Poppy
My bunnies are very important to me
So in your dreams
In my dreams
What do you see
When you come out of your French doors
I'd like to see some grass
It would be nice to grow things
I'd like to have something
That I can sit in
Like a small one of those
And presumably
You want to entertain a bit do you
Oh yes because
When they come in from the charity
The kids
We sort of sit on the wall
You know
These are all the children
Who were burned
That you helped
So you are
They call you
I gather they call you Nanny Pat
They call me Nanny Pat yes
So if I said
Okay then Pat we'll have a go
That would be just so lovely
It'd be a dream
Come on let me get you warm
Oh thank you
Pat has spent every waking hour
Giving hope, care and love to others
Meaning she's had no time
To put any into her garden
But that's okay
That's why I'm here
See you soon
See you
Don't worry it'll all be fine
Thank you
With space increasingly being at a premium
In our homes
Many of us view our gardens as an extra room
And that's exactly what I want to create for Pat
And it seems the lady loves a bit of glamour
And that's given me an idea
For my new garden design
Time to reveal the plans
To the rest of my expert team
Francis Tophill
David Dominy
And Katie Rushworth
So we've got a small garden
A rectangle
And that entire sort of back quarter really
Is dominated by that shed
It's huge isn't it
That is
Francis
You get the shed
But you know she's going to still need
A building source, a bit of storage
But I want it to be a bit more exciting than it is
A little attractive
A bit like you
Yeah
Oh there you go
Yes now then
She likes to entertain Katie
Yes
So I want you to take charge of entertaining
Okay
But Pat also wants to grow veg
With her granddaughter
So vegetables and entertaining
Vegetables and entertaining
I'll see what I can do
David
Bonnie World here you come
I knew that was coming
We need part of the garden
That's a paradise for them
As well as for Pat
Okay
But also if you can think about beds
About planting
And some permanent areas to plant
Okay and what do you want
I've had a bit of a snoop around the house
Okay
Well it sparkles
And look at the wallpaper
Oh my goodness
It's fancy isn't it
That matches your pants
Have you been looking again
Anyway
I want to bring that
To this Essex garden
Spray it out
A bit of bling
A lot of bling
Ready
The only problem in this garden
Is it's so small
That if we're not careful
We're going to fall over one another
So play nicely
Tight
First things first
We need to temporarily relocate
Pat's VIBs
Very important bunnies
So they're staying next door
There you go Spike and Poppy
Nice and comfortable
In their temporary home
While we remove
That disproportionately huge shed
At just 6 metres by 9 metres
Pat's plot is half the size
Of the average British garden
And my new design
Will make the most of every inch of space
We're zoning the garden
Into three areas
The lower level
Will be re-landscaped
To create a grand entrance
With it's very own bunny mansion
The middle section
Will be a dining area
David will construct raised beds
To draw the eye to the perimeter
Making the garden seem bigger
And I'll add a new water feature
Nestled beneath a decorative screen
Katy will make use of the vertical space
In the far corner
To create a grow your own area
And Frances's new summer house
Will take up less room than the old one
And she'll add a pergola
So the back of the garden
Is still shaded
But before her new building arrives
She's spared a thought for functionality
We do need a practical space
So this will be that
Then Pat can store all the things
She needs for the garden in here
And next to it will be a much smaller
Much more beautiful summer house
The old freestanding shed
Took up a quarter of the garden
By tucking both our buildings in the corner
We're now only using
An eighth of the floor space
To enhance its sleek lines
Frances is adding a flat roof pergola
To the front of the summer house
This pergola is going to bring
Some much needed shade to the end of the garden
But I also want to make it
A little bit glamorous as well
Which will take some work
And Frances isn't the only one
Who's thinking about glamour
To figure out how we can give Pat's bare backyard
Some real sparkle and style
I've come to the nearby village of Hatfield Pevron
To see a garden
That has all the qualities we're looking for
And as they say in Essex
I'm well gel
If you want to design a garden that's dramatic
You need to be bold rather than fiddly
Here all the shapes are rectangular and square
Softened by sleek slender beds of planting
But even the paving is big
It doesn't look fiddly and messy
It just looks sexy
Here the high spec hard landscaping
Dominates the space
Big pavers like these
Can cost upwards of 50 pounds per square meter
But they do make a garden look a million dollars
But if you want that Miami pool party look in your garden
And let's face it, who doesn't
Then you'll need a water feature
And here they're big, bold and 100% on show
Four sawn stone slabs
With a bubble fountain coming up through each
Recycled from the water underneath
A curtain of water coming down the wall
No natural waterfalls here
These really work
And they make your garden look classy
But style doesn't always have to cost the king's ransom
Here it looks like they've built a whole new wall
To match the expensive landscaping
But it's all an illusion
If you've got an ugly brick building
You don't have to knock it down and start again
You can now get modern stone cladding
That looks like this
Beauty on a budget
Even the planting looks as though it's been chosen
By an interior designer
The palette is minimal
Evergreen box balls sit alongside white dicentras
Even the shrubbery is carefully clipped
And manipulated to create just the right effect
If your garden is too small for a tree
Then turn a shrub into a tree
These osmanthus have stems that are pruned up to about head height
All the side shoots are cut off
Then this great cloud of evergreen leaves above
When is a tree not a tree?
When it's a shrub
I want to borrow some of the ideas they've employed here
For our garden in Basildon
David's already got the hint
His landscaping on the lower level is seriously sleek
For the flooring
Great stuff, Dave
Thanks, mate
We got it
We're going to put in these porcelain tiles
They're large
They've got a textured finish to it
I'm laying them in one long line
Horizontal to the house
So as you look out
Your eye is taken by the joins in the slab
To the left and the right
Rather than straight ahead
So optically it'll look a little bit bigger than it really is
It may not look like much right now
But with the right ideas
I believe we can build Pat a garden
That could give even this one a run for its money
If a garden could have a designer label
This would be it
Luxurious design, high-end accessories
And statement planting
It's got real sparkle
If we can get the balance right for Pat
We can create a garden that's perfect for entertaining
But which still reflects her glamorous style
We're in Basildon
Turning a green-free zone
Into a garden with real sparkle
For a retired nurse who loves her bling
Many of the children Pat has helped over the years
Have become lifelong friends
That's when we went to open day
You're still in hospital
Including Rochelle
Who was just 18 months old
When she was admitted to hospital with 70% burns
Pat was around since the very start
When my accident happened
And so she's always been a part of my life
Her personality alone
As a child you kind of look up to her
And she'd walk into a room
And she'd just light up a room
And you'd just know Pat's here
You can never really say thank you enough
To someone that's done so much for you
And changed your life
It may be small
But Pat's garden is proving tricky
To fit everything in
We've had to relocate half the build
Into the lane behind
I did say it'd be fiddly
We are making progress
The concrete cell is being transformed
It's done slightly lighter now
A lot of white appearing
And coloured fences
Raised beds going up
Ease of access for Pat
She can get to grow what's inside
Without bending down too far
Sitting area here
More beds over there
And Frances is painting her new shed
Which at the moment looks
An awful lot like a new shed
An astonishing shade of primrose yellow
You said bling right
That's bright
Bling not custard
I set Katie the frankly impossible task
Of combining a vegetable patch
With an entertainment area
So I dread to think
What she's about to show me
Oh, gosh
Are you all right, Alan
Yes
You look a bit unwell
I've just seen the back of Frances' shed
Oh
Don't ask
Oh, really
This is nice
Well, it will be
So, potting bed
Veg
Lovely, so compost goes in there
Compost, compost, compost
By day, by day
Then, on an evening
Cocktails are go, go
I love it, I love it
There's nothing in here though, is there
No, there isn't
Not yet, not yet
All in good time, Alan
All in good time
What's David doing
Oh, you got your rabbit touches there
We have
We're just adding a bit of embellishment here
The columns to go either side
And Wayne's done something clever at the top
Go on, Wayne, let's have it
Ta-da
Hutch Hall, resident two rabbits
Does that mean Buck Ingham Palace
Could well be
And it's on the hinges
So we can put a cover over it
Obviously for the practical purposes
So that drops down
Cover goes on at night
Spot on
And then in the morning
When you pull the flag up
We're going to secure that one, Alan
Don't worry
Yes, I'll just leave that one with you, David
Time for me to get to work
On my dramatic statement water feature
These tiles are made of glass
And it's quite important
That you do get tiles
Which are suitable for outdoor use
And these are
We'll then grout them afterwards
To give a smooth surface
And there's more than a hint
Of that wall I was looking at
In that garden earlier
Which was clad in the horizontal stonework
Here we've just chosen herringbone
They're really pretty
I'm quite pleased with these
The tiles cost £19 each
And you'll need about 34
To cover a metre by two metre surface
You can see the zebra stripe
Occurring every now and again
And then in front of it
Will be a water feature
And planting all the way around it
So we're taking that kind of
Slightly bling sitting area
And bringing it out here
The house in a way
Is sort of leading out into the garden
The only problem now
Is how I get out of here
Because this hasn't quite gone on
It's all right for you
With your 36-inch inside leg
Help!
In case my tiles weren't zebra enough
Chris, just try that in the bed here
I've ordered some semi-transparent screens
To help divide the different zones of the garden
They're ideal for small plots
Because they enable you to create different areas
Without blocking the view
Just in there
Just like that
Brilliant idea that actually
Oh, thank you, David
Nice!
At the back
Katie has just two square metres of space
To create a grow-your-own area
So she's going vertical
Now the whole idea of these
Is so it looks like shelves on a bar
I'm going to fill them with plants
That are going to tumble over
And it looks really effective
You could do this simply
With any fence or wall
The boxes will be filled with edible plants
That Pat can use in her cocktails
So I've got lots of lovely things to go in here
Mint obviously has to go in
An essential in many cocktails
Like, for example, the mojito
Which I'm quite partial to
Now mint, if you plant it in a garden
Is an absolute thug
But in here it can only grow
As far as its roots will allow it to
Which is not very far
So it's quite self-contained in here
Now this pretty little viola
Loctis, so delicate
You can't eat them
They look lovely on salads
But they look ever so pretty
Floating on the top of a drink
So they're going to go in too
Now the lovely thing
About planting vertically like this
Is no matter what size garden you have
Whether it be a balcony
Tiny little courtyard
You can do it
It takes up no room whatsoever
And it looks really cool
In a small garden like this
There's minimal room for planting beds
So hanging plants are another way
To add colour without using space
But I'm not sure about these, Frances
Glitter ball hanging baskets, anyone?
I'm going to plant them up
With things like this ivy
With lovely variegated leaves
Will look very beautiful
Hanging from the pergola
And I hope the whole effect
Will be very, very glamorous for Pat
Three of Pat's friends
Rochette, Sophie and Natasha
Have stopped by to give her a hand
Hi guys
How are you?
All three were helped
And supported by Pat
When they were young
How important was
The Children's Burns Club to you guys?
Very important
Because you feel isolated as a kid
You feel like you're the only one
I'm confident now
Whereas in 2001
When I had my accident
I just wasn't
I don't think I would be
The person I am today without it
If I hadn't been to camp
I don't think I would have moved out
Let alone got a job
Because I was always so afraid
Of everybody else around me
I don't think I would have met my husband
I don't think I would have got married
And then Pat made my wedding dress
Really? That's amazing
She must have some skills then
To sew a wedding dress
We was in contact with some people
That know Pat
And we've asked them
To write some thank you messages
You are a kind hearted beautiful woman
Who I'm very grateful to have in my life
She'll love that
I'll use them
I'll find a place
Pride of place I think for that
These designer touches are all very well
But we need to get going
On the true stars of the garden
The plants
Soil time
One barrow in
Four tons to go
When it comes to bringing green
To the middle of the garden
We're cheating
Our turf is here
Pat did say she wanted a lawn
She just didn't say what type
OK awesome
Let's have a little look
It's quite exciting isn't it
Now this is totally fuss free
No maintenance
Which is exactly what Pat needs
So she can make the most
Of the time in the garden
Entertaining people
And not have to worry
About mowing the lawn
To get artificial turf
Looking its best
You'll need a firm even sub-base
But the lawn is not the only
New arrival in the garden
My water feature
Is going to be the centerpiece
Of the whole design
So I've chosen
A dramatic black granite bowl
This is another one of Alan's
It's better not be heavy
Oh my goodness
Very heavy
It's choking me
What can I say David
Feel the weight
Feel the quality
Just pop it up there David please
What on there
Yeah please
OK it's heavier than it looks
All right ready
It weighs a ton
Oh great
Hang on
OK
Where are you going to put it
Not to go on the render
That's it there
Keep it that way
OK
It's very straightforward
Very simple
OK
Are you guys done
With your cauldron yet
Cauldron
This is black granite this is
It must make fantastic spells then
Shall we see if they work
I don't know
I think maybe we should see
If we can get some plants in maybe
I'll try a spell first
Disappear
It's time to bring this garden to life
Oh look at those
Austrian corn ferns
And hostas fab thank you
And for the bed surrounding my water feature
I've chosen striking perennials
That love the damp
Look at that
More than 50 years gardening for a living
And I still get excited about a good plant
Hosta june
Vibrant leaves
And the dramatic flowers on this hydrangea
Will really pop against the silver wall of tiles
This is one of my favourite ferns
This is the ostrich prune fern
Or shuttlecock fern
You can see why it's called that
It has a wonderful Latin name
Matiusia struthiopteris
And struthiopteris refers to the ostrich
And it's beautiful
It'll come up to about two feet
So although they look a little bit low
At the back of this water feature at the moment
They will come up higher
They love cool damp shade
And they're certainly getting the damp here
They die down in winter
But then every spring is a new beginning
And up they come again
These alliums, these tall drumsticks
They'll be okay
They're not right in the splash zone
And what happens is they send up leaves
And this enormous flower
Then the leaves die down
And these flowers, which are just great globes
Will stay there and dry if you leave them on
Right the way through the summer and autumn
So they'll look really good
And silhouetted against this tile background
Some people just bung plants in
Now I could bung this plant in
And I could bung it in like that
But it's not right, is it
Because what I want it to do
Is to slightly overlap the wall
So if I turn it like that
Angle the root ball
With one bed almost finished
What was once a concrete slab
Is finally starting to resemble a garden
But we've still an awful lot to do
Before it becomes the glamorous outdoor space
That Pat deserves
Our bling-tastically stylish garden
For retired nurse Pat Wade
Is finally coming to life
Careful with those, Dave
You'll put your back out
The next task is to plant up
The huge raised beds
In the lower section of the garden
Okay, try that against there
With a compact space like this
A good tip is to limit your colour palette
So it doesn't feel too fussy
So we're keeping things simple
With greens, whites and splashes of yellow
Oh, look at those
Trolleys for globe flower
Aren't they just gorgeous
They're actually in damp meadows
Isn't that beautiful
And using some grasses to add texture
Could I have a couple of fillers
Fillers
Yeah
I don't think you're looking too bad for your age, Alan
Did you get that
And for height and structure
We're adding a statement tree
That's suitable for a smaller space
And these Japanese maples
Whether it's the green variety like this
And there are now so many of them
A lot of them with Japanese names
They are wonderful for small gardens
They never get massive
They don't have invasive roots
They're brilliantly elegant
And a lot of them, when the leaves fall
They turn vibrant colours before they fall
And then the stems look good through the winter
Often coral-coloured
So whether they're purple-leaved or green-leaved
They're a darn good buy
Aces or Japanese maples
Just as effective as a small tree
Is a large shrub
Lilac can be a beautiful and scented option
And with a good haircut
It can look particularly elegant
Remember those osmanthus
I saw at that garden earlier
With the bare stems
Then the cloud of foliage at the top
I thought I'd try and do something similar
With this lilac
Which is going in a corner
And then it can be kept clear
So you see the stems and the foliage
And these glorious flowers
So underrated lilac
It's beautiful
A wonderful May flower
Purple, lilac or white
As in this case
The most glorious scent
So I'm going to start thinning out down the bottom
To show a better framework
Another wispy one here
This one's going right out sideways
So I'm going to take that one off
Pruning the lower branches
Also helps air and light get to the shrub
Helping it grow
And as it grows taller
Of course you can take more off
And keep these stems going up
For as high as you want
That'll do
With so many new additions
It's nice to see Francis has retained
One of Pat's original treasures
Pat didn't have much in her garden
But what she did have
Was a very well-loved rose in a pot
And it's yellow
So it matches this border really nicely
And I thought why not
Give it a central position in the bed
And Pat will see it flourish even more
With a lot more room to grow into
We're building this garden
For an inspirational lady
Who's dedicated her life
To helping young burns victims
So while the team battles on
I'm meeting Pat
To find out what inspired her
You started that first burns camp
With no money
No, we never had any money
But I'm used to starting with no money
And if you don't take a chance
Then obviously you just keep saying
I'll give it a go
But you've got to like jump in the water
So is all the funding voluntary then
Yeah, it's all funded by the public
Type of thing
And it's just really hard to get that funding
Because if you never experience someone with a burn
You don't understand it
It's not like a broken leg
Where they go in hospital with their leg mended
They're continuously back at the hospital
Having surgery and that
And people didn't understand that
What about the effect on you
It's quite traumatic
Dealing with children
Who've been badly disfigured and burned
It is
Like I've had a little boy come in who died
And there's some people that stick in your mind
And this little lad
He was only probably 18 months old
And there's times when children come in
To the burn unit
And you would unavertedly
Associate them with your grandchildren
And that's really hard sometimes
But the thing is you have to look over that
Because you have to think of the ones
That are going to survive
And the ones that need your help
What do you feel you've got out of it
Of doing it
I've...
The Burns Club obviously is my life
And I think I've got a lot of love from it
I think I've got a lot of
Satisfaction that I've helped others
When I see the girls and the boys now
And I'm just so proud of them
Like I have my own children really
That they've gotten so well
You've given them a life
I've not given them a life
What we've done is we've helped them
Accept themselves to have a life
I wouldn't be so bold as to say
That I've given them a life
I think the surgeons and the doctors
Give them the life
We just give them a future
For all these years
Pat has just concentrated
On doing things for other people
She's been unstoppable
She's had no time or even inclination
To do something for herself
Well I think we can put that right
It's high time she had a garden
I know Pat will enjoy sharing this garden
With the people she loves
And they all want to help us build it
Including her granddaughter
Seven-year-old Lily Su
Do you like growing vegetables
With your nanny Pat?
Yes, but I've eaten all the strawberries
We better put more than two strawberries in here
If you're going to eat them all, hadn't we?
Along with easy-to-grow runner beans
With good drainage
Strawberries will thrive in containers like this
Just pop them in a sunny spot
So are you going to promise
To look after these for me?
And give them a drink of water?
Yes
All right then, put your shake on it
In the summer house
Francis is framing the letters of thanks
She received from Rochelle
So right at the end
As she walks in
The first thing she will see
Is all of these
And their lovely messages
Things like
To Pat, without you
We could not have helped
So many children in Scotland
Thank you from everyone
At the Scottish Burn Children's Club
And there are so many of these
Hopefully it will make
A really fantastic feature wall
The plan is to turn the area
Outside the summer house
Into an outdoor dining room
Where they can all congregate
And I've come up
With the ideal centrepiece
Garden ornaments
And household ones come to that
Can cost a fortune
But you can be a bit nifty
And a bit cheeky
This candelabrum
Cost six pounds on the internet
I've pushed down things
That meant to hold the candles
And you know
How you never know what to do
With your old plastic pots
You can use them
I'm going to get a little saucer like that
And use that to form the base of
A flower pot which can go on there
A bigger one can go on there
And I'll end up with a candelabrum
Which can then be planted up
Just glue them securely into place
Give it a little paint
And leave it to dry before planting up
Ivy is incredibly forgiving
I've pulled this apart
There's plenty of roots still attached
Put a bit of multipurpose
Peat-free compost in the bottom
And this, we used to call them petunias
And they're called calibrachoa
These tiny little petunias
Again, I've broken the root ball apart
To make it smaller
I'm using the same plants
Francis used in her hanging baskets
To give the garden a sense of unity
Finishing touch
A yellow pansy this time
Pushed into the middle of a larger pot
Now this, I'm just dropping in
Because then when it fades
Whip it out
Replace it with something else
Now I think that's quite tasteful
Definitely needs a bit of blinging up
A six-pound candelabrum
With some simple embellishments
Whoever said bespoke had to cost a fortune
Now that's looking lovely
Isn't it
You're definitely lacking something
What
You said you were going to wear glitz and glamour
I didn't glitz and glamour
I'm not wearing glitz and glamour
Lovely
They're better on you than they are on me
Mind you
I can't use them on here, can't I
Would you like them
Yes, please
Okay
You've got four as well
Fab
Thank you
I never thought I'd be so glad to see
A little bit of diamante about my person
Fab
Here in Basildon
We're creating an ultra-glamorous outdoor room
For retired nurse Pat Wade
To brighten up the area by the back door
David's creating some simple troughs
That can be hung on the wall
This is bellis
Take a little look
Little pom-pom-y type flowers
That open up
And they're daisies
So here they go
Katy has a final touch
For her cocktail area in the corner
First things first
Drainage hole in the bottom
And I'm going to fill them with multipurpose
Now I want a nice even layer
And then I've just got some small bedding allicin
And I'm going to just tuck three of those in
These large acrylic cocktail glasses
Can be picked up for as little as three pounds
And are just deep enough for the plants to thrive
And then to top dress
I'm using these
Crystals that look like ice
Now I happen to think
That looks like a pretty good espresso martini
Cheers
As the bling comes in
This garden is really starting to sparkle
And nothing says glamour
Quite like a mature climber
That's dripping with jewel-like flowers
Wisteria is absolutely wonderful
This is a white variety
Glorious scent
Wisteria likes sun
It likes walls that face south and west
Not north and east
Which are too cold for it
It will shoot across here
And this if you like is nature's chandelier
Beautiful pendulous flowers
It just smells insanely good
Creating a super stylish garden
In this small space
Has been a challenge
But I'm pleased to say
We're very nearly there
Right, straight back
We just need to reinstall the previous tenants
Are you ready?
Check out your new little home
Oh, straight in
And time for me
To reveal my little bit of set dressing
Now that is a centerpiece
Wowzers
Yup
And we wonder where he goes, you know
We started off with a concrete backyard
That was grey boring
And the only sign of life
Was two bunny rabbits in the corner
Right
We've ended up with something which is vibrant
And having looked at the inside of Pat's house
Perfectly fitting
It is
Well done you
Give yourselves a round of applause
Let's see if she likes it
On we go
A few days ago
Pat's back garden was nothing more
Than a dismal paved-over yard
With a couple of sorry pots
And a very sad, very big shed
Now it's been transformed
Into a stunning and vibrant garden
That captures her distinct style
And extends her living space
A chic patio
Where Pat can relax with her rabbits in the morning
Is surrounded by raised beds
That give structure and definition
Elegant screens
That mirror the wallpaper inside the house
Frame a new dining area
For entertaining friends and family
At the back
Is a fabulous new summer house
Where she can relax
Whatever the weather
And the elegant planting
Ties it all together
The garden
Feels as if it's brimming over
With life, colour and pizzazz
Welcome home
Thank you
Lovely to see you
Come in
Excited
Oh God
Very, very good
Pat has given her life
To working with injured, vulnerable children
Bringing them hope and purpose
Open your eyes until I say
It's obvious to all
Just how much these children value and love
Their nanny Pat
No peeping
I'm going to move you around
I feel honoured to have met her
And privileged
To have been able to give her
The garden she deserves
Pat, open your eyes
I don't know what to say
It can't be my garden
It is now
It's just like amazing
Well, they're happy
Look at that
Bunny towers
Somewhere to sit
Somewhere to entertain
Wow
Look at that table centre
Isn't it amazing
No, I don't believe
Sorry
It's just like
I don't know
You've done so much
So many folk
Yeah, I know
But I like doing it
That's why we like doing it for you
It's just amazing
We have a little stroll, madam
Raised beds, so they're easy to tend
The flowers look so nice
It's just the lovely colours I like
You said you wanted to be able to do something
With your granddaughter
Yes
So we've got you some
Oh, wow, yeah
How amazing
And the potting bench doubles as a nice bucket
When you're doing this
Yeah, I bet love lemonade in
I love all the onion things and that
Well, we knew you liked a bit of bling
Oh, yeah
So we've done quite a few
They're lovely
Look at that
Oh, look at my pictures
Scratch paint
It can't be, can it
It means so much
Look at this
Super, what
They'll be getting everyone's alterations next
Oh, wow, look at this
It's better than what I got indoors
This is so lovely
So shall we get your daughter and your granddaughter out
She will let them see it
Oh, my God
I think we're in the wrong garden
Isn't it beautiful
What do you think, Lily
Amazing
And there are an awful lot of people
Who can't wait to share it with them
Pat has spent all her life helping people
People who until she intervened
Had no hope of help at all
She's put sparkle back into their lives
Many of them here today
And they and her new garden
Will now put some sparkle into her life
Till the next time on Lovely Garden
Bye-bye
Next time
Hello
I meet a young mum battling cancer
It's huge
And turn her building site of a garden
Did it tell you where the instructions were
Into a natural, holistic haven
This is unbelievable
I'd just like to say
Thank you very much for my beautiful garden
It's really, really lovely
We've been sitting out eating
And Lily's forever in the garden
And I'd like to thank you and your team
For just making my life better really
Than sitting in what I had before
It's just lovely
Thank you very much
