Hi and welcome to Vietnam street food. Today I am making one of my all-time favorite grilled dish
called Bo Nuong La Lot which means grilled beef crab in butter leaves. It is a classic
in Vietnamese cuisine but honestly I rarely make this dish since moving to Germany because
butter leaves are hard to find here where I live. Recently I found a wonderful way
soothing my home sickness by using white garlic leaves as a substitute. These are the ones I
foraged just last week in the forest near our home and I promise you will love this recipe.
Simple, flavorful and packed with this grilled garlicky aroma. Let's get started. We mix ground
beef with pork fat to keep the meat juicy or you can use ground pork instead. For the marinade we
use chicken powder, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, oyster sauce, roasted peanuts, minced shallot and garlic,
minced lemongrass, ground pepper and five spice powder. Mix everything by hand for a few minutes
until it becomes smooth and sticky. Now let's roll. Beforehand let the garlic leaves rest for
about an hour to make rolling them easier. Start rolling from the bontic end of the leaf.
It's quite easy since we leave the side open. Use one large leaf or two to three smaller ones
for each roll. Please feel free to try other leaves like perilla leaves, grape leaves or even
spinach. They work just as well. A small tip, place the meat on the dull side of the leaf
so the shiny side stay beautiful and green after grilling. And save the small leaves and the leftover
beef for quick meat balls. Just as delicious and even faster to make. All ready, time to grill our
wrap and roll. Our beef rolls are ready. This dish is traditionally grilled over charcoal but can also
be baked in the oven or air fried. I'll leave more details about each method in the description box
below. Today I'll use the grill function of the instant pot. Place the rolls into the pot and
spray some oil over them before grilling. We'll grill at first for five to six minutes. Unlike
grilling over charcoal, with this method there will be some juice coming out from the meat.
Just use kitchen paper to soak it before flipping and grilling the other side of the rolls.
Then we let it grill for another five to six minutes. Wow, the rolls are beautifully green
and smell awesome. In the meanwhile, we'll grill the beef bones with the same way. Look at that!
Who would not want to try one of these? Now let me show you different ways to enjoy this dish.
Can't wait to try all these.
The beef is juicy and full of flavor, especially the garlicky aroma.
Amazing. Love it. Let's try our banh mi.
Look at our cold noodle. Beautiful, right?
I absolutely love it.
What I love about this recipe is that you can enjoy it with rice,
noodles, and especially in banh mi. And if you are a big fan of banh mi,
don't miss out my other recipe, banh mi with braised chicken. I hope you have discovered
a new and delicious grilling idea just perfect for spring and summer barbecue.
Enjoy the season. I'll see you in the next video. Bye.
