Tapir Land
Tapirs are herbivorous mammals that belong to the family Tapiridae.
The Malayan tapir is easily recognizable by its distinctive black and white coloration,
which serves as effective camouflage in the dappled light of the forest.
Known for their distinctive appearance, tapirs have a stout body, short legs,
and a prehensile snout that resembles a small trunk,
which they use skillfully to grasp leaves and branches.
Tapirs are generally solitary and are known for their excellent swimming abilities,
often taking to water to cool off or escape predators.
There are four recognized species of tapirs, the Brazilian tapir, the Malayan tapir,
the Baird's tapir, and the mountain tapir.
The South American tapir, also known as the Brazilian or lowland tapir,
is distinguished by its dark brown color and prominent white-tipped ears.
It is native to the Amazon rainforest and surrounding areas.
The mountain tapir, the smallest of the tapirs, has a thicker coat of dark woolly fur
to help it thrive in the cooler climates of the Andes Mountains.
The Baird's tapir, found in Central America,
is characterized by its dark brown to black coloring
with distinctive cream-colored markings on its face and throat.
