Every day, thousands of new Etsy shops
are popping up, and the harsh truth is
that they're not making that much money.
In fact, around 75% of sellers struggle
to make any sales at all. So, what's
going wrong? And more importantly, what
can you do to be in that top 25%. Stick
around because if you're serious about
making profits on your Etsy shop, I'm
going to give you all of the secrets
that you need to get that Etsy shop up
and running and making a profit in no
time. So, we got online and did our
research. And honestly, this was very
surprising to me at the amount of people
that are not turning a significant
amount of profit in their Etsy shop.
What we discovered was that 65 to 75% of
the Etsy sellers are making less than
$100 per year after fees and expenses.
And then about 30 to 40% struggle to
make any profit at all. There is only 5
to 10% of sellers that are producing a
full income on Etsy. Now, I want us to
focus on the 25% that's left over,
excluding the people that are making
under $100 on their Etsy shop every
year. I want us to be in the profit. I
want us to be in the green. So, let's
jump into all of the things that you all
need to be doing in your Etsy shop in
2025 to make sure that you're making
these sales. So, why does so many Etsy
sellers make no money? This is the big
question. Whenever I was doing the
research, I was so confused because I
was like, there's so many people out
there. There's so much opportunity. Why
is the majority not making money? And
this is what I found. So, the first
issue we ran into is high competition.
There are over 9 million sellers on
Etsy. Now, we have found resolutions for
all of these points that I'm about to
bring up, and we're going to touch on
those as soon as we get through the
downsides of running an Etsy shop.
Typically, I would like to start off
with the positives, but I just want to
talk about why you may have seen a
decline in your sales or why you haven't
currently created any sales. And then
we're going to talk about how we can
problem solve them. So, the first issue
is high competition. There's so many
people selling things on Etsy. They may
be selling the same item that you're
selling, but we're going to talk about
how you can set yourself apart in such a
high competition marketplace. Number two
is the lack of SEO knowledge. Lots of
people don't even know what SEO is. SEO
is simply search engine optimization.
They are either using it incorrectly or
they don't even know it exists. And we
are going to fix that. Number three is
poor pricing strategy. If you have been
on Etsy at all, you can see they have
lots of things on Etsy to kind of draw
you into people's shops. They'll run
sales. They'll do things called loss
leader. They utilize a tool called loss
leading which I'll discuss with you guys
here in a little bit. There are lots of
different strategies, but a lot of
people don't go in with a strategy at
all. Therefore, they are kind of put on
the back burner when it comes to Etsy
pushing their listings out in the
algorithm and thus they make no sales.
Number four is ineffective marketing. I
think as a new Etsy seller, a lot of
times we just simply don't know how to
market ourselves and we strictly depend
on the Etsy algorithm to push ourselves
out. While that can be effective if you
get lucky, it's not really the main way
that you can drive sales to your Etsy
shop. There are lots of other ways and
we're going to get into those here in
just a minute. The good thing about
having Etsy is that they do drive
traffic, but that comes with a cost. And
a lot of times people that utilize Etsy
have an issue with the cost of the fees
that Etsy charges per listing as well as
the transaction fee which is at 6 and
12% currently. But those are things that
you can kind of play around with in your
pricing to make up for. So let's go
ahead and jump into how you can start
optimizing Etsy to create some real
profit. The first thing I want to talk
about is mastering the art of SEO. If
you are creating titles for your
listings that are not being searched
for, you are not going to create sales.
You've got to take the titles that you
have on your listings and create them to
be searchable by the normal customer.
So, you have to imagine when you're
creating these SEO titles that you are a
customer and you are searching for the
item that you have for sale and that is
how that search engine optimization
really works. So, putting in words that
make sense to the product you're selling
is going to allow your items to be seen
by the people that are actually
searching for them. So, mastering SEO is
a really big one, probably number one or
number two on our list of things that
you should be doing. Number two is
finding a profitable niche. Finding a
niche can be very hard for some of us. I
have been on that struggle bus before. I
promise. I feel you. I hear you. I see
you. It is something that doesn't happen
overnight. It's not like you can just
pick one and then it's going to sell.
Unless you're lucky, that's probably not
going to happen. But what I want to
encourage you all to do is pick a niche.
First of all, see how it does. If you
find you're not getting sales, if you've
already had your Etsy shop up for 6
months to a year and you've not made any
sales, I think it's time to pivot your
niche. And sometimes you make one or two
sales on the same item and maybe it's
not niched exactly where you want it to
be, but it's selling. Marry that niche.
Try to sell other products that are
similar to the product that did sell and
see how that goes. Sometimes we don't
find our niche, our niche finds us. And
I think that's really important to know,
especially if you've been struggling
with finding a niche, because it can get
really stressful when you're trying to
force something that really should just
happen naturally. Another thing that you
can do to really boost your sales is
getting out of the Etsy environment. So,
getting yourself onto Tik Tok, getting
yourself onto Pinterest, getting
yourself onto social media so that
people can actually see your products.
Now, the Etsy algorithm does a really
good job of driving sales to your
listings as long as you're optimizing
your SEO as well as you possibly can or
if you run Etsy ads that they will also
push your listings in that way as well.
But if you want to get that little extra
boost, it's not a bad idea to start
posting your products on Tik Tok,
Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, you name
it. It can't hurt to get your name out
there and people can know like, "Hey,
she's selling shirts. She's selling
digital prints." Now, if they need
somebody, they can go to you. Maybe you
won't see it right up front, but after a
few months, people will start to
recognize and remember what you're
creating, and they will start coming to
you. The last thing that you want to
focus on to create profit in your Etsy
shop is to optimize your pricing and
your listing photos. So, if the price is
right, but the listing photo looks kind
of low quality, grainy, dark lighting,
people are not going to be drawn to
click on that listing. So, without
having those two together, without
having pricing and high quality listing
images, you're not going to really be
able to find that good happy medium spot
where people are going to jump in and
make that purchase. The price may be
right. listing photos are low quality.
So, they think maybe the product's going
to be low quality. And then on the other
end, if you've got really nice high
quality photos, but the price is either
too too low or too too high, they're not
going to be as likely to purchase it
there either. So, make sure that you are
creating beautiful listing photos or
using highquality mockup images to
create your listing photos. And then
make sure to do lots of research on
product pricing before you actually post
those
listings. With that being said, which
tips did you not think about utilizing
