The future of Marcus Rashford was one of the most important things for Manchester United to sort
in the January transfer window. He was dropped against City, he was frozen out the squad.
Where would he move? Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan. I think Marseille were linked with a
move for him. I think Monaco was linked with a move for him and other clubs as well. I think West
Ham at some point and then Aston Villa. Out of nowhere, after John Duran joined Al Masa,
they were in the market. They came and they've now signed Marcus Rashford on an initial
loan deal until the summer. And then they've got an option to buy him in the summer for £40 million.
I'm going to run through the details, have a conversation with you. You can let me know what
you think in the comments below. Honestly, what is your opinion as a United fan? Because I've
tried to record this video a few times and you kind of get a little bit lost for words,
if I'm being totally honest, all right? Because I look at this photo here and I go,
that's disgusting. That's just weird. It's going to take some getting used to. And I've already
said this from a selfish perspective, I didn't want to see Marcus Rashford play for anybody else
in the Premier League. Just go and play somewhere else in Europe. I can just forget about it and
pretend like it hasn't happened. Now I'm going to have to watch him every single week and I'm
going to see the whole thing. That sucks balls. However, do I think it's right that Rashford has
left Manchester United? Yes, I do. For the last couple of years, his head just hasn't been there.
Mentally, he hasn't been there. He hasn't been committed enough.
Is it he hasn't been committed enough? He just hasn't been happy. I think that's like the core
of it. And that's the big mystery around Rashford. For him to go from that 30-goal-a-season
striker to who he has been in these last couple of years has been just this paradox that United
have never been able to find the answer to or the cause of. And it always felt to me that
the only thing that's going to get something out of Rashford now is a fresh start. So Rashford
goes to Aston Villa and nails it and flourishes and blossoms. It doesn't mean that it wasn't right
to move him on because that was never going to come at Manchester United again. That ship
had sailed. And I'm sorry, man. Aston Villa right now are a far better football team than us.
They're above us in the table, not particularly hard. They're in the Champions League.
But there's absolutely no way that when Rashford said he wanted a new challenge,
that he thought he was going to move two hours down the motorway to Birmingham to join Aston
Villa. I think his agents have failed massively in what's happened this January. The fact that
this has happened, what, 24 hours before the deadline? They were waiting and waiting and
waiting for Barcelona. Never happened. Did they offer to reduce the wage demands? Maybe,
I don't know. Was it an unrealistic prospect? Don't know. The AC Milan, they were deep in
talks and they went and signed Kyle Walker instead. I've always felt that the fresh start
is what Rashford needs. And I really question whether moving to Villa, staying in the Premier
League, staying inside the scrutiny of the UK press. Reports suggest that he's actually going
to be living at home and just commuting to Aston Villa. Fresh surroundings, I think,
could probably have helped him. I think there are some Aston Villa players that live in London.
It's not completely unusual, but I just don't see this as the fresh start, complete fresh start,
away from any sort of familiarity of what I had before to get back to doing what he loves,
which is playing football. But this sucks balls. And this is what I mean. There's an immediate,
sort of, not a split among United fans, but there's this discourse, it's almost like an
argument really about, it was Marcus Rashford who failed United as a player and then it was
actually Manchester United as a club who failed Marcus Rashford. I think Rashford saw himself
as a one club player. I think he saw himself following in the footsteps of Giggs and Scholes
in terms of staying and playing for a football club. But Manchester United, his whole career.
But something, and this is the thing that I want to, in the goodness of time,
I'd love to find out what has really gone on with Marcus Rashford upstairs.
Because he has been unhappy for some time. Is it the burden of being the faces of Manchester
United through a 10-year, I say a barren 10-year period, it's literally him holding the FA Cup
twice. And the League Cup in that time. And the Europa League as well. So it's hardly been
barren in terms of silverware, but that's not the silverware by which Manchester United has ever
held to account. And that's what these last 10 years have been. And he's been,
he's had to burden a lot of that. And I think that would be taxing for any individual.
I think that's definitely played a role in it. And Manchester United have been shit.
And it's not because of Rashford. And our problems won't now disappear,
because Rashford has left. But he did need to leave. In terms of this, almost a perennial
power struggle that exists in our dressing room. And between manager and players as to who the
problem is and who's in control. Rashford leaving is a massive statement. A massive shift. And
can I just say here, for the fact that Berrada and whoever is involved at Wilcox, I don't really
know. I've got Villa to pay 75% of his wages. Up to 90% I think is pretty damn good negotiation.
I never thought it would be that high. However, maybe that's why that permanent fee is so low.
Do I think that he'll re-find himself? I question it. I don't know who he is as a footballer
anymore. But the new environment, it's like the new manager bounce, man. Of course, there'll be
one. How big a bounce, how big a return, we don't know. But I'm not going to enjoy looking at that
photo. I'm not going to enjoy the fact that Marcus Rashford has now left Manchester United.
Even though I think it's the right thing for Rashford, for United,
just for the whole football club. And all these things can be correct at once.
I think that's the main point I want to get across with this video. I will wish Rashford good luck
until it affects United in any way. And I suppose playing in the Premier League means that Rashford
is going to affect United a lot. And I didn't want that. I don't think Rashford wanted that.
Deep down, I don't think Rashford wanted to stay in the Premier League.
But after a month of negotiating with some of Europe's top clubs, nobody was willing to pay
his wages. And now he's moved two hours down the M6. And Rashford has joined
Aston Vida. And I seriously need to know what you think about it in the comments.
