invited the crew from Frogg Toggs to go fishing with Capt. Chris and myself off the coast of Florida for wahoo, bonito (false albacore, shark and goliath grouper. We started the day off high speed trolling for wahoo. We hook what we thought was a wahoo, but turned out to be a barracuda. We then moved on and started fishing for the bonito and sharks. The bite was nonstop!
This morning I'm here with the Frog Talks crew
and Captain Chris, and we're headed offshore
to catch some wahoo, bonita, and maybe a big shark.
Wahoo.
All right, go start speeding up.
We're high-speed trolling for wahoo at 15 knots,
and what we do when we wahoo fish, we do some zigzags.
We create a lot of whitewash.
What happens is the lure, as we're doing those zigzags,
cuts through the whitewash,
disappears for a brief second.
The wahoo, if he's following that lure, will hit it,
as it disappears, and when it reappears, he hits it.
It's a fear of loss.
It's a reaction bite.
We got a wahoo on, he hit.
We were just talking about,
I don't even know what we were talking about.
We were eating some trail mix, having a good time,
been trolling for about 45 minutes,
got our first fish on.
Is he running?
Nice, dude, that's a good fish, man.
Wahoo, guys, we're eating wahoo tonight.
Here, I've got a line for you.
Keep reeling, don't stop reeling, just reel.
I got the rod, all right?
If that line goes slack for one second,
because we were fishing at 15 knots,
the hook will just fall right out of the fish's mouth.
Are you getting tired?
How tired are you?
Heywood, you ready to take over?
Grab the handle.
Keep reeling, keep reeling, keep reeling.
Don't stop, yeah.
Keep circling, yeah.
I got it, you just do it, all right?
We're drowning, you know why it's so hard?
We're drowning him right now.
He's got his mouth open, he can't drown,
so he's like an underwater parachute.
That's a good way to put it.
Keep, keep, keep, keep.
Anyone else wants to hop on here?
Yeah, I'll hop on if you say so.
You're done?
All right, here we go.
Heywood!
We're gonna get him now.
I caught plenty of wahoo, you want to reel?
Sure.
Okay, ready?
Here we go.
Aaron, do you know where the guy's fish from?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
There he is, there he is on surface.
Oh, it's a nice fish, dude.
That's a big fish, bro.
Woo, we got a wahoo, baby.
He's right there.
Did he get sharks?
Oh, it's a freaking cuda, man.
Big old cuda.
Only a couple fish can catch a lure going that fast,
and this is one of them.
A wahoo, barracuda, bonita or tuna,
and sometimes a black grouper.
We're gonna recycle this guy and use him for bait.
He's already dead, he drowned.
Normally we let these things go,
but he's not gonna live, guys.
I've caught barracudas high-speed trolling
in the Bahamas before,
but I've never actually caught one in Florida.
That's the first one,
and I was like 100% convinced it was a wahoo,
and to see that barracuda come up,
kind of disappointing, really is, actually.
Can't really eat him.
I mean, I love catching barracudas.
Nothing wrong against barracudas,
but when you're putting this much money and effort
into catching wahoo,
it's really nice when you get a zebra in the boat.
We've done enough wahoo fishing right now.
Got the barracuda, still kind of upset about that.
I still can't believe it.
I mean, guys, that fish took at least 300 yards of line
with full drag on a Talco 50.
I don't even know how.
I didn't know a barracuda was capable of even doing that.
That's why I was convinced we had a 50-plus pound wahoo on,
but now we're gonna go play with some baniyas and sharks
and get tagged.
I'm pretty confident in this drop right here
I'm gonna catch a fish.
Let's see.
Oh, my.
It's a big one.
Sharks, sharks everywhere.
Big bull sharks.
He's gonna be recycled right now.
Sharks are gonna be very happy.
All right.
There we go, fish on.
Get him, get him, Will, get him, get him.
Shark got you.
That fast?
Yep.
Un-fricking-believable.
Kingfisher wahoo just cut me off.
Dang it.
Oh, my gosh, dude.
They're gonna eat.
Oh, he's gonna eat him.
He's eating him.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Real, real, real.
Faster, faster, faster, faster, faster, faster, faster.
Yeah, you got sharks, dude.
There we go.
Little shark.
Shark.
Yep.
You got shark, too?
Not yet, but I'm about to.
You got a bonita?
Oh.
Get him in the boat.
Oh, just broke the tip of my rod.
Nice, dude.
I've already burned through probably a dozen jigs.
Getting kind of expensive.
These sharks are eating every bonita I hook.
There's a bonita right there.
That fast?
Gone.
Can't get a break.
I'm about to drop a shark rod down.
Catch us a big, bad shark with this bonita.
You're gonna pin the reel against your hip,
and you're gonna have the rod sitting
on your hamstring right here.
You see how it's on the inside of my leg?
Don't put it in between your nuts.
Put it on the side, okay?
And you're gonna bend up and down like this.
Okay, so like, here comes the customer right now.
Uh-oh.
Oh, here he is, here he is, here he is.
Handsy.
He got it.
Uh-oh, uh-oh.
Here, hold that, ready?
And three, two, one.
Hold on tight.
Hold on tight, don't let go, don't let go.
That's pretty cool watching him
hit the surface like that, right?
Yeah, that's crazy.
You ever see stuff like that before?
This one's giving up easily, dude.
What's wrong with him?
He's crushing us, dude.
When I grab the leader, you're gonna back down the drag
and just be ready, because he's gonna go.
He's not gonna be happy, I promise you that.
Hey, tell Haywood it's not that bad.
Tell him he should do it.
It's not that bad, Haywood.
All right, you're doing one after this, dude.
You're gonna do the next one?
No, you can do that one.
Oh, you're doing one, bro.
You can either catch him or you can swim with him.
That's just an option.
Oh!
That's Will Southern Italian coming out.
He's gonna do a swim with me, too.
Remember, turn sideways.
You don't want it all on your technique.
If that rod's in between your butt cracks,
you're gonna have really bad pain
the next time you go number two, I promise you, dude.
Here he comes.
Hold on, hold on, hold on.
Slow, slow, slow, slow.
He's actually a little bigger than I thought he was.
He's probably 300.
Here he comes.
He's over eight feet, dude.
Dude, this is a lazy bull shark, man.
Big old boy.
Ah, yeah, he's probably close to 300.
All right, man, that's a huge bull shark, dude.
300 pounds, definitely over eight feet long.
Biggest fish of your life, Chase.
And there he goes.
Clean release.
Dude!
Hey, are you okay?
I'm good.
Are you sure?
He swam.
Come over here, bro, come over here.
Let me see, let me see.
That was so awesome.
Let's expect the damage here.
Oh, he got, look at that, look at that sweat, people.
Is that the hardest you ever worked for a fish?
That's the hardest I've worked, period.
Ever?
It's the hardest thing I've ever done.
It's the hardest thing you've ever done?
Easily.
Guess who's up next, guys?
Heywood!
Oh, where's Heywood at?
Hey, guys, this is Heywood right here.
See him?
Heywood Brandon.
And here's the thing, Will, tell him what the terms are.
Well, we gave Heywood a couple of options.
He said he has no desire to buckle up
on that shark with that rod and reel.
So we said, well, you can either catch one
or you can swim with him.
So he's contemplating his options at the moment.
Okay.
Oh, that's a good call.
That's a good call, that's a good call, dude.
Here, bring it in, throw it back out again,
throw it back out.
Get it right in the chum, get it right in the chum.
There you go, right there, yep.
Let it sit.
No, no, it's fine, it's fine.
Let it sit, let it sit.
There you go, you got it, you got it!
Benito on, Benito on, baby!
Yes, yes!
You got him, dude.
Get him, get him, he's gonna fight hard.
Hold on.
There he goes, there he goes, Benito on!
He's thumping, dude.
Come on, dude.
I see him down there, I see him.
You got him almost.
I'm gonna keep the sharks off him, I'm happy.
First, I'll be on fly.
That thing just beat me up like that?
Bro, welcome to the ocean.
Hold it up to the camera, man.
Hey, we got dinner, guys.
You wanna eat some remora?
I'm not eating remora.
How do I open this?
There you go.
There we go, baby.
That was sick.
Was that awesome?
Yeah, that was bad.
Let's see.
There you go.
That is a big ol' boat.
Hey, is there another Benito following him?
Yeah, I might've dropped the fly.
Pitch that fly at him, dude.
Try to get him out of the gills.
It's a Benito, dude.
Ginorm.
Can you chase that shark?
Oh, that's a giant.
Look at that Benito, guys.
On the flat ball jig.
Now, look at this.
This is really cool.
Check this out with the Benitos, guys.
See this pictoral fin?
Watch this.
It can tuck all the way in.
Look at that.
It has a slit right here where it fits in.
And these things right here.
