River Phoenix Talks Career, Oscar Nomination, Upcoming Roles & More At Academy Awards Luncheon In BH

this is River Phoenix uh he'll be here for approximately 5 minutes so ask your [Music] questions I really don't think about um uh how um how a part's going to do for my career it's it's uh it's how I can do for the part and so I really hadn't really given it much thought concerning um if it was a good career move or what Nom how do you this um I feel like it's kind of like an official bonus to um the satisfaction that I had already felt after seeing the movie I mean that to me was was what really meant something to me and and this um is just an extension of that feeling play warm sensitive so well of do I want to be a cruel bastard in my in my next um something you like no I mean I think that there's all different shades and and different sides to the roles that I've played so far so I don't think that I've fallen into any uh certain set type um um the next film I'm working on will most definitely contrast um what I've already done it's called love you to death love you to death I play a a pizza shop boy um with uh Kevin Klein as um the the owner of the pizza shop and and William Hurt as um a uh as a um we have power as um as a friend um who who um hangs out in this kind of slummy place and I uh and I kind of use him in interesting ways think to I'm sorry who do you think oh I I really couldn't say I think that they're all um really really good actors and uh um I don't know being nominated I really haven't given it much thought until you've asked me all this right now so uh I'm kind of um learning as I talk um I don't know I mean it's it's h there again just a a great honor and it feels um nice to have had um you know the chance to to be recognized you know in this kind of official respectful way so I I hope that it does well for the movie perhaps the movie will have a second win um personally or on a grand scale um well personally just uh people um reling to me that they uh were you know very touched and and moved you know by um you know the part and thought that it was a realistic portrayal and and that to me is is is what means the most some you know send you aam or um a few I I don't know um who exactly a few but um surprises in the way maybe that the industry sees you or the way that your friends see you after you be nominated some things um change like immediately as soon as it happens as far as um but I don't pay much attention to that because it's usually for the wrong reasons you know I mean um you know it should be um you know solely based on the work and and not on um an award as far as um you know respect goes but that's fine someone asked someone was talking a girl earlier over here and I missed it was talking to um I guess everyone's going to be here I haven't thought about it I really haven't I want to meet um Lawrence casden um the director for love you to death and and talk to him a bit so hopefully he'll be here um well if um it it turns out that there's another script suitable for the both of us yeah it depends um Barry levenson is uh I'm I really like his work a lot and and Martin's gra I I could name a few but right off the top um and and Lawrence for one cuz that's that's the next and I'm looking forward to that John Borman you know it all um someone had asked the next door if I was intimidated by um you know the people that I was up there with and and I don't at all I mean I I don't think that I'm um you know out of the bunch um at all worthy of the award um though though it's still you know a very nice thing to to be amongst them no not at all okay one more question and then he's got to go um I'll probably be um in the bay area um playing local underground [Music] clubs thank you thank you that's
