why is Mike's home ESL here I'm gonna go today with Marika we'll see she was my colleague back in 2011 and she left China to go to China her Shima as being Tainan or yeah she has been Tainan over there and she is awesome as DIY craft crafting she she also used to teach with puppets and at the very beginning of Mike Sonia sell we had I used in my grass sometimes I used to use puppets and you will see we will talk about shapes as well how you can introduce your shape will go with missive well that was a very very hamsa she she is I don't know she is in a chat I'm gonna go into the chat but students watching their screens alright okay so brother mine start first class after cover nineteen coup you give some tips please well how to start first day class after cup in nineteen use that warm-up Cove in nineteen go away never come back our way little children want to play Cove in nineteen gutter when Kovan nineteen go away and then you go faster and faster kids gonna love it and are chat yeah so now we're gonna go with them not only if you heard about what is the the name of a oh yeah tangram I don't know if you know it's a Chinese using a Chinese shape like a square with that shape that is square there are many different shapes inside it the bigger marika doing this stuff and then what you can do is using shapes using using those shapes to do animals that the looks long they look like animals so you can review your shapes you can teach shapes even end animals at the same time so that's a really very creative way to teach not only shapes but also animals and kids have to use their creativity so that's really an awesome I love that video she's gonna show you how to do it and then what you can do after that what you can do with it with all those shapes all the different forms that you can do with it so we're gonna go on Marika as well channel all about shapes don't forget to still leave your questions if you need if you need me to help you with your with seen miss abuela this time we're gonna see a Marika used to be my colleague back in 2011 she is a very very skilled a very skilled teacher ESL teacher she was an awesome teacher back in the day far better than me believe me she's a native speaker from thousand free cap and here we go we gonna go with Marika let's share again the screen we gonna go get her channel I hope you guys also can check out America's channel she's really awesome so here we go Marika and we gonna go with ten grand to D shape you like practicing with 2d shapes I've got you covered let's make tangrams today but what is a tangram it actually literally means seven boards of skill it's the dissection puzzle so it's me can you take apart from China and it has seven flat shapes so 2d shapes called tans which we then put together to make shapes so at the end of the video I'll give you a few silhouettes so I will only give you the outline of some shapes and see if you can build these with the tangram I'm gonna show you how to make you can make this super colorful I only had cream paper in the house so here's what you're going to need first we need to make this rectangle into a square we need to make our tangram out of a scrap piece of paper so here's what we're gonna do take it like that let's just fold it down fold it too much make sure it's nice and flat there I think you use your ruler to draw a line follow the line where the paper stops it'll help you make a nice straight line see next cut this okay oh wow this is guys you want to make a tangram you don't want to turn your fingers into a puzzle piece there we go now that we have our square we can start to draw our shapes we will need seven pieces so you see where this line is that is nice and easy for us that is where we draw our first line great we're going to very lightly draw a line from see this is your now so now we put ruler here just very lightly draw the line there so now it looks like a cross we've got that now this needs to be involved so fold there to the middle point mmm nice and flat there we go there is the line for us now we can destroy it put your a ruler nicely over that line better go you want to make sure this line the next line is very straight so from here to the middle we're going to draw a line and so now we have a square and a triangle got a big triangle here at the top - super big triangles now we have to work on this one we're gonna measure again make a straight line just lightly draw this one okay now see from there - there's little line my ruler there so a nice line there all right and that is it guys look like this the two big triangles around this triangle they're a square here the triangle here and a triangle here time to start cutting now you can use this to make different shapes what is that a big yes that's all singles a little triangle in a scratch didn't what is this shape looks like a duck and animals or whatever the thing can be creative with it they can see boats houses people it is just awesome so make sure to check out mer as channel really awesome you can learn it's not boring for kids I'm really sorry some people as I am not sure what you guys saying but we're probably not about what I'm talking about okay great yes so the stuff are really awesome Marika is doing really an awesome job like I said she's working where she's doing her own puppets and yet let me show go and check her out she's a very awesome ESL teacher oh man let's see you another one yeah yeah again she's good she's good it's also a great way for kids to learn English you know they have to they have to be creative that's what it's mostly the the biggest problem in China for Chinese students because they are like there are around 55 per per per class so you can imagine we don't have that much time for them to be creative and even for me my class it's always sometimes boring that we have too much kids because we could have speak of when you give key words and key sentences what is interesting in is to put them in situation in like real-life situation which is what you can do when you are when you are teaching in your training school that this is something really really nice because you get only 15 kids but the time is while time is quite pretty much the same but yeah it would be a great word especially in primary school in normal schools to learn English we have too much students in the classroom and so that's bragging there you know creativity which is very important for kids so yeah yeah thank you go and check Murray cast you know I just gave the the link I guess so yeah she's she used to be my colleague like I said and we were having a lot of good time lots of awesome teachers that kick ass all over they're really really really nice they have we've been learning a lot e in this kind of school but yeah thanks thanks a lot all of you for being in the line so if you get any questions yeah he loves each essay using pipettes can get tricky I used a puppet with one of my students and she crying I felt awful that's true that can be probably the the main issue and I have been thinking about it probably you will see and thinking about those pipette suspicions but with the pipette so you gotta be careful with the how old are the kids some pipette scan be for students they can be yes really really really scary but they have to understand that in life you know this is life you know you get a go you guys you got to jump over that wall that beer that big wool fear wool that you have in front of you for kids you gotta know you gotta be with the bed the best teacher has to put his shoes into the students shoes so yeah sometimes it happens to me too I do make mistakes sometimes when I get angry too quickly especially when is the very first class and you get some students when they when you play games some of them if they lose they will cry because they cannot we can't stand losing and that's really bad because in life you have to learn from losing from your defeat from being defeated or it's life is always like that so it's very important we are not only teachers teaching English but we are educators and they have to know that in their life you know life is not easy they have to know that even if they're young they have to be brave whenever they have to be it doesn't matter if one kid is crying it's cute it's lovely because you scared him but you go and comfort that kid comfort him and let him explain and you will see this kid is gonna get stronger believe me if you paint a real detention you know it happens sometimes for me especially even if I have 55 kids classroom I will go to that kid right away even if it takes time during the class my TA will will go on teaching what I was teaching so that's why I always say your lesson plan is you can plan everything but it's never gonna happen like your plan was what was you were planning but what you were planning and yeah so it's very important especially in the first few days of your class when you have new students to pay attention to their character right away the first day may try to find the ones who are very shy and the ones who are who's gonna disturb who can be the leaders of this of that disturbs I I mean they can be disturbing half of the class so you're gonna keep control you are the captain on the boat so you got to know your and it works in life it's the same in life you gotta know who are you who's the crew on this boat right so that you can manage to get the boat where it's supposed to go you understand and like I said to my keys I always say to them don't love to your classmate because he cannot speak well we are a family were fighting to be the best in English we have to so then you know you gotta let them know that they are a big family they have to help each other and they gotta get United you know that's pretty much house didn't off and yeah I'm not gonna go on political stuff but yeah you whatever happens in the class if you get a kids crying because you made a mistake so you get her fix it up you can get a repair and you know this is life it's okay people as d different character and yeah you just have to be able to repair your mistake your mistakes and I guess everybody will be fitting like he knows how to say sorry or and how to comfort me and all stuff do we have a positive future for foreign teacher was a within the that's a great question do we have a positive future for firing teachers within the ESL Department after the corona virus yeah it's just fine another wall on your way there's nothing to be fearing about is not the end of the world and teachers wherever they are online or whatever whatever you are in the class through we will always be needed and especially ESL teacher and but if me here in China we are the post post coronavirus and yeah man it's just back like it was before because people were united and were it doesn't mean they're not free be careful they are united in a way that of course you're gonna say yeah they're listening to their to their officials to their president because china always have been growing up and everybody is getting better and better like before it wasn't really like that it you know china is still developing and many people are really thankful for you know you're gonna understand China is a different country is a different world believe me and they are you know then there are 56 minorities here in China so you can imagine how difficult it is to control but yeah China has been doing a good job and I I don't want to go into those political stuff because me have been in China I mean she and I'm good here I'm doing my teaching and everything is OK nobody is bothering me and they're helping me out it's completely the opposite Shion people in here Chinese people always been of course my family is half Chinese but I have families from all national family and a family from Cote d'Ivoire families man you know I have never seen why people make so much difference and and even the difference isn't defined it's a quality man how boring your life is when you have to eat the same food all your life and for me going all around this world I've been 2,000 Rica have been to other parts in Europe have been I'm in Asia for almost 20 years and you know I love it I just love it when I see a foreigner well for myself huh something different for me look like different but we are all brothers and sisters and we our mother is earth you know I don't different is not really the right word but many people put this on the table we're different but no they are the same we are just we have different cultures we have deep we eat different food then I love it the difference is is the difference that's a big message of peace believe me sorry guys just switching situation I've been in my classroom has been in some really bad situation and I always had a smile on my face that could change the situation for good you you know in the classroom when you have demo Saturday Sunday else for that last Saturday we messed it up for technical problems but if you come on on the weekends on Saturday especially the lot I've is a little bit longer and we play with that will and on this will I will let you know about some of my stories some stuff that happened in the classroom and back in 2008 I remember that one when it was in the classroom earthquake happened and it wasn't in a normal class we had a first we had a first earthquake the biggest the big one back in 2008 we had that big earthquake and we were after this this day that was in May 12 after this day we the school were still open because it was it shake it was on rich what's his name richer richer yeah on his scale it was around six and so that's checking believe me and then during that but the the day where I was having my class that was after the big earthquake we had some I forgot how to say others he mole earthquake but this one was still around five and believe me during my it was close to the end and suddenly you had that in the classroom that was doing my harvest performance you know that report glass with all the parents and everything was doing well everything everybody was look like very happy and suddenly we were it was like five minutes before the end one of the parent just parents kid just stand up and say come on come on go go go quickly and my ta was looking at me and she was like what what's wrong and I was like I don't know what I did wrong and everybody was like and he just left and then when when he opened the door the door was just in the back of the classroom in front of me and in the hole you could see the TV we had it TV on the top of the ceiling coming from the ceiling and the TV was me so the TV was moving like that and I was like wow Earth's like crazy imagined we had seventh floor and in that floor in this building it was only kids that was a Saturday or a Sunday afternoon around 4 o'clock and everybody just left like crazy I saw had this me in the school and so so one of the kid just coming to me and saying I can't find my mom I just took the kid with me and get down the front nobody was running but everybody was walking quite pretty fast it wasn't panic but I said is your mom in here check out if I've been ticking the kid was like four years old and I said no no I can't see things I could understand Chinese saying no my mom is not here what is my mama and I say all right just come with me we gonna go get and we gonna go down well you will safe and don't worry you stay with me you'll be safe then we went downstairs and the mommy was like oh my son but everything went fine you know it wasn't it was moving right you know quite a lot and we were it was scary that was one of mine when you do that was one of my experience that will remember all my life because it was right during a report class that you get ready for it those parents get a resign again so this we call has harvest performance so during those harvest performance you don't want anything bad to happen and you get an inventory or lesson plan is going pretty much like the plan but you're gonna have also 10 B Plan C what do you know your kids is okay the kids work the kids I had during this classroom were a little bit older there were around 10 years old so that was that was okay 9 yeah 8 9 years old not 10 so yeah whoo that was an experience
