The safe side, he shows three changes from the one that lost at Leicester.
Brie comes in for Walker-Peters, who is ill. Wellington into Manning,
Dibbling into Stewart. On the bench, Sugawara is back, there's no Jay Robinson.
Now here comes the free kick from De Bruyne, a ninth minute, curls it to the back post.
It's defended well in the end, and had to be, all sorts of pressure.
And Guardiola was coming on and Flynn Downs got back there to stop him scoring at the back post.
As De Bruyne gets through, and that will be a yellow card I think,
he was dragged back by Ugachukwu. Let's see what Tim Robinson might let Ugachukwu off this.
I thought he got his arm. I thought he held his arm. Is the referee getting the book out or not?
I think Leslie Ugachukwu might have got away with that.
It's a two or three yards outside the six yard box, and De Bruyne will take this right-footed,
curls it over the bar, and it's a goal kick, and the Ward did its job.
All teed up for him, just couldn't get it up and down.
He's no James Ward, perhaps, is he? 32 minutes gone, it's nil-nil.
Successful final third passes. City 186, Southampton 7.
7 to 186, and it's nil-nil, and there you go, that's football.
Three minutes to half time, City looking for another free kick, they're going to get it.
Driving run through the middle of the park,
bowled over, and a card goes to Ugachukwu.
And is it Kovacic, hold down?
Yeah, Kovacic drove past us, that's why we got lippers sloppy,
they lost the ball in midfield.
Here we go, this is just about the distance he wanted before.
It's dead central, just outside the D, De Bruyne hits it against the wall.
Saints defend again well, but they've still got to defend,
because McAtee has it on the right in the box.
Good cross, free header down for Kanji, who was up from the free kick,
headed back towards Highland, intercepted by Saints, cleared out of the penalty area.
We have just over a minute of normal time left at the end of the first half.
City's 199 touches in the Saints' final third, and it is nil-nil.
30 seconds left, free kick to City just inside their own half.
They're going to try and rush to get the 200th successful final third pass.
Shouldn't that be a yellow card against Saints?
Oh, Ugachukwu is living on the edge, I think the referee just booked him.
Yeah.
And I think Silva is right to argue,
because he took the free kick and Ugachukwu stuck his leg out,
that means it's a direct hit, he's a yellow card defence.
Joe Arrivo is coming from Ugachukwu in the middle.
Wise.
Because he was on a tight angle with that card.
He was nearly on a yellow and a half, Joe, I mean, he should have probably gone off.
Kovacic out to Foden on the right now, cuts inside the penalty area,
looks up, tries to fire a shot, he gets lucky,
finds Bernardo when he wasn't trying to, he's crossed, he's blocked,
and Saints get it away again, this is a great rear-guard action from Samson.
12 and a half minutes, nearly 13 minutes into the second half,
0-0 still on BBC Radio Solent Sport.
Foden gets past the challenger, Fernandes, who got enough of the ball.
Oh, the referee eventually gives a free kick to City, that's an interesting one.
Mateus Fernandes can't believe it.
De Bruyne, he's over it, he's favoured, he done is it.
Left-footed it comes instead, drill to the back post,
just misses Haaland, the post and the goal.
It's a goal kick, Ramsdale ends up in a bundle in his own goal line.
Haaland will check he's OK, hopefully we can go to Vitality when I'm told we can.
Here's Doku at pace now, trying to drive Brie back into his own half.
Stops five yards outside the penalty area, gets it back now off Vardyol.
Again, runs Brie, this time on the outside,
gets the ball back into the penalty area somehow.
Bernardo Silva's shot come cross, he's smashed away by Jack Stevens at the back post.
And I'm not sure how it didn't go in, Jack Stevens meant to put that over the crossbar,
fair play to him, but Silva's shot may or may not have been going in,
certainly heading towards the back post.
Everyone will say City weren't trying hard if they don't win,
everyone will say City were having a lazy day ahead of the cup final,
making sure they don't get injured, they've got the ready-made excuse.
Question is, can they, as Joe Tessin said earlier,
show why they're winners by finding a win in this game late on,
even though they might not care whether they finish second or third?
Now Sainz attacking through to the manor,
right outside the penalty from Fernandes' excellent first-time pass.
Brie will cross from the right, back post is Fernandes,
nods it down, Archer's first touch might set it up,
comes back out to Wellington.
Aribo finds Wellington again, faced by Fodor,
this is as far up the pitch as Sainz have been all half, 66 minutes gone.
In the sunshine at St Mary's in the Premier League on BBC Radio Solon,
Sainz passing it around and Howard Bellis put Archer in trouble,
and now City will break, and Doc who's got in behind Bellis,
that could be the key moment, in towards Haaland,
and Ramsdale catches the ball.
It was just behind Haaland as it deflected,
he tried to play it forward past Ramsdale, who caught it on the run,
and that was lucky, and in the end Bellis got away with that.
De Bruyne, little pass to Foden again,
gets the byline this time on his right foot,
Wellington blocks it once more,
corner City, 70th minute.
Going into the area of the football game where it's so important to focus.
Here comes the corner from outswing on the right foot,
free header to Guardiola,
Ramsdale can only parry it with Haaland in front of him,
but he did parry it,
and it's cleared away by Aribo, and out for a City pro.
That was a chance.
Yeah, free header on the corner, not the greatest one, head-sit down,
I'm not sure why...
It's a Kanji's header, wasn't it?
A Kanji head-sit down, and I think Ramsdale should kind of hold that,
I don't know why he boxes it down there.
But Doku's on, Guardiola's still at left-back,
and the centre-backs are still on as Haaland goes through from De Bruyne's pass.
Haaland into the box, gets it onto his right foot,
squares it to the back post, it goes behind everyone.
Sainz survived for the moment, back to De Bruyne,
his shot brilliantly blocked.
Sainz are surviving still.
Yeah, and a good run to win the ball,
and Bruyne plays Haaland,
who makes the first run in behind for this game,
turns, but Narek plays it to O'Reilly,
who kind of runs too quick forward,
Here's De Bruyne from the left again, right-footed,
hangs another one to the back post,
looking for Haaland to nod it back into the danger area,
is the ball out?
Sainz haven't dealt with it, Rambo makes the save,
but I think it was going wide anyway,
not sure he had to actually get down and make that dramatic save,
but it's a corner to the city.
Yeah, he kind of keeps the ball in,
that long ball on the back post.
Oh, seven, where's that come from?
Where's seven come from in a game that hasn't hardly stopped Joe?
That is terrible.
Booze around St. Mary's,
Akanji plays it out to Savino,
I've no idea where seven's come from.
Yeah, but you've got to keep the concentration that way.
Yeah, now, De Bruyne has passed,
that's good concentration from Fernandes,
wants a free kick, he's not going to get it,
shot off the crossbar!
Pete Ramsdale all ends up,
comes back out to Doku,
goes on the byline, corner,
Brie puts it behind,
Sainz thought they should have a free kick,
I think, to be honest,
that Fernandes did go over too easily,
he's actually got cramp,
I think it's Marmous who smashed the bar.
Yeah, he did, I don't know.
A heck of a shot from where he was,
Archer needs to do something to keep it,
run it towards the corner flag, something,
that can compete him and Stewart,
and the second ball won by Smallbone,
does brilliantly,
now, what's the central thing to do?
It's doing what he's doing, I think,
run it down the side,
and he's fed, he's onside Archer,
Smallbone's fed him, byline,
oh, he went for goal!
Stewart was at the back post and he went for goal!
And I think the offside flag's gone up in the end anyway.
I think it's a correct offside decision,
but good play and Archer totally misses that,
I'm not sure he needs offside on the replay,
but we have 10 seconds at the 7 left,
Tim Robertson's done enough to give Man City
every chance of winning,
now he needs to blow his whistle,
and give Saints the unlikeliest of points,
he's got his whistle,
he looks,
De Bruyne plays it forward,
Harland's over the top,
Ramsdale catches it,
biggest cheer of the afternoon.
I can see Saints fans up on their feet,
celebrating beneath me,
no-one wants the stain of being the worst team ever,
still we're playing on,
long ball forward,
and that is it!
Go on!
Cheers of relief,
cheers of joy,
and cheers that tell you Southampton have got
the most unlikely point of the season,
against the current Premier League champions,
they have drawn 0-0 with Manchester City,
to get past Derby County's worst ever
Premier League points total of 11 points,
they get a point in a 0-0 draw,
that means they are not the worst team
in Premier League history,
they may well end up being the second worst team,
but boy, that is better than everybody
talking about you for years,
like people have talked about the Derby side of 2007-08,
and Saints players have transformed the week,
from disaster at Leicester,
to relief and joy at St Mary's.
