Today, we partnered up with YouHomey to help them introduce this new ice machine.
This is a new frontier in ice making for cocktails
and then also just for, you know, whatever you want to drink at home,
but especially for home bartending, because we have seen the pebble ice
revolution kind of take place over the last five or so years.
These machines have gone from like close to $1,000 each.
All right.
In the beginning to about 250 bucks now, and you have lots of different choices.
But this is the very first ice machine that makes ice that you can shake with.
So this is the YouHomey Crescent Ice Maker.
When this guy hits the market, it's going to go on sale for 350 bucks.
But if you go to the Indiegogo campaign right now and secure your machine,
you can get it for 260 bucks.
If you wait for it to go on the market, it's going to go up.
But right now you can get it for pretty cheap.
And if you're really enterprising and you partner yourself up with a couple of friends,
you can get three machines for $240 each, which is a $20 savings.
Plus you save on shipping.
So this ice maker performs pretty efficiently.
You get your first usable ice at about 12 minutes, and then you can run the
cycle for another hour, hour and a half.
You'll have a full on bit of ice.
What I love about this machine so much is that you can actually decrease
and increase the ice thickness.
I like to have big chunky ice in my tins because I want more surface
area of ice when I shake.
So you can set this machine to have big chunky ice at a plus five, or you can
go all the way down to negative five if you want thin slivers of ice.
Ice thickness goes from six and a half millimeters to 14 millimeters, which is
a nice control over the ice making process.
This guy can make a hefty 28 pounds a day, and it has a 2.2 pound basket.
On the water tank, which is situated up top for very easy filling and
draining if you need to, is a 1.8 liter.
It has a regular self-cleaning mode and a deep cleaning mode, which is really
helpful for these machines because these machines are susceptible to not only
get mineral deposits inside the little tubes, but then it can also get gunk
in there, just like slimy gunk.
And so you want to make sure that you keep this thing clean.
This thing makes it easy to clean.
You don't have to take it apart.
You don't have to run solution through it.
You run the cycles and it's good to go.
The greatest thing about this and something that I have not seen in countertop ice
makers yet, because we have had a few hotel pan ice countertop makers, but
nothing of this quality, is that it's 100% clear ice and utilizes directional
freezing in the way that it freezes, much like when you're making clear ice with
a cooler and a freezer at home.
So now that we went through the machine, we might as well make some cocktails with
it, since this is a cocktail channel.
And I thought that since we're winding down, that's not the glass I want.
And I thought that now that we're winding down the day, I could make a ranch water,
which is going to be many feet.
I'm just going to build this straight in the glass.
First thing we're going to do is five drops of saline.
I'm going to use my favorite Reposado, and we're going to go full two ounces.
Ooh, this squeezer really, it really does actually give you a little better, better
leverage on the way they did the handle.
I'm going to go half an ounce of lime juice, fill it up with that you homie, and
top it off with a little Topo Chico.
We got that lime Topo Chico though.
Cheers.
And next, let's make a Manhattan to see how well it performs in a stirred cocktail.
This machine makes pretty solid ice, dude.
Wow.
Look how clear that is.
It's like holding up so well in the stirring glass.
I got to say that for a machine of this price, it really, really
performs pretty impressively.
It did everything that it was supposed to do.
The ultimate test is really, can the ice stand up when stirring and shaking?
And I think that we've proven that it can, and it's pretty awesome.
So walk, don't run.
Go home and get yourself a You Homie Countertop Crescent Ice Maker.
There's a link to the Indiegogo in the description.
